When people talk of originiators of the heavy metal genre big names like Zeppelin, and Sabbath often arise. However people tend forget one of the first bands to ever use distortion guitars for which metal is famous for. The Blue Oyster Cult began in Long Island's Stony Brook State University in 1967, throughout their career they remained to be an "underground" college band even when signing to the Sony label in 1972. The peak of The BOC's career came on july 31 1976 when the band's number one single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" hit the Billboard Hot 100, it climbed to #12 and stayed on the chart for 20 weeks. Within a near 30 year career (give or take) The Blue Oyster Cult have released 11 albums, and a life time of memories for the young and old, and they remain to be my favorite band (that's a pretty good acomplishment considering im 19, and grew up in the bubblegum pop era)
