Here's a man who really rocks, and despite the rock, he's an amazing
worshipper! Here's Lincoln Brewster:
LINCOLN BREWSTER (1999)
Once there was a guitarist whose bracing musicianship landed him a
contract with a recognized mainstream label and touring deals with
major secular artists. But God had other plans for Lincoln Brewster,
and he laid down those opportunities to serve as youth worship leader
at a newly-planted church. Soon after, he was signed as the third
addition to the Vertical Music roster. It's from this heart of
swerveless submission that Brewster's self-titled CD, a turbulent and
very earnest project, originates. "We all like to pray for faith
when we've misplaced it," asserts "He's All I Need," a brisk opener
of rash faith featuring amazing guitar solos and drive. "Everybody
Praise the Lord" rides on a gang vocal chorus as it thanks the Lord
for bringing love, joy, and freedom to life. Dominant pop melody "Hey
God" ascends on a celebration of Jesus caring about us, drawing a new
life, and erasing shame. Very Smitty-esque "What Kind of Love" cloaks
amazement at Christ's sacrifice in a series of questions, while the
musically carefree "Can't Deny" voices the pertinent, rudimentary
decree of the gospel. To gloat on the resurrecting, injecting power
of God, is to slay all restriction to glad, longing worship--is
to "Spin" around, 'jump up, get down' with Brewster's best-known rock
single. Somber and melancholy, "Shine" offsets the previous track by
examining the dichotomy of having a body, yet being a luminous
spiritual being. Track eight discloses ecstasy at being "On My Way"
to eternity; "Broken" disposes to be "usable to God" rather than
resistant and egotistical. The concluding song "Walk On" melts with
conviction at the Lord's presence even when "hurled into an angry
sea." Consolidating elements of acoustic and electric, Lincoln
Brewster is an unartificial succession, touring the fields of praise
and the rivers of freeing supplication.

AVAILABLE TUESDAY (on cMusicWeb.com and at your local store)
ALL THINGS NEW - WATERMARK
The second disc from husband-wife duo Watermark is exciting,
especially considering their success with their freshman album and
their recent work with Passion and OneDay.
COALITION: THE HIP-HOP ALLIANCE - VARIOUS
Unfortunately, the ForeFront record label is going astray. Their
first venture from the safe havens of the rock realm, this
compilation has many hip-hop/rap groups, none of which are signed to
ForeFront. I'm confused why ForeFront has released this.
COMING TO LIFE - THE NORMALS
With the freshman success of the normals over the last years, it is
time to further develop their sound. Charlie Peacock calls it a REAL
rock record.
THE FATHER'S SONG - MATT REDMAN
Definitely the PICK OF THE big DAY. Matt Redman fills this new album
with catchy melodies and even more powerful worship as an awesome
follow-up to The Heart of Worship.
FOLLOW THE NARROW - CLEAR
Going more acoustic than their first release, Minnesota natives Clear
bring more insightful lyrics and enticing melodies to the listener
with better production.
KALEIDOSCOPE SUPERIOR - EARTHSUIT
I don't know how you describe this music, because nobody else does.
Apparently, this new group sounds only like itself, so you can be
surprised when you get this really new group's CD for your birthday!
SALVADOR (self-titled)
Since Latin music is the big thing, it's very natural that Myrrh
would sign another Latin group, Salvador. They don't really have the
Ricky Martin look, but it's still Latin music.
SEND ME AN ANGEL - HEATHER MILLER
The sophmore album from Heather Miller is a bit more rocky, as she's
showing off her guitar on the front and it doesn't have the pop look
to the CD case.
SET YOU FREE - TAMMY TRENT
A couple years out of the Christian Music pop business and now Tammy
Trent is back.
unELECTRIC - JOY ELECTRIC
If your band is called "Joy Electric", would your fans still like you
without the electric part? We don't know, but songs by Joy Electric
in acoustic/unplugged formats will sound different, at least.
WOW GOLD - VARIOUS
This album will educate the young Christian music listeners of the
older realms of Christian music with tracks by Stryper, Larry Norman,
and Keith Green, and will also get your parents updated to the new
music with delirious?, Jars of Clay and Rebecca St. James.
