Well I just got engaged! I can't believe it, just last year I was beginning
to think i would never meet anyone. I'm 25 already and I thought it was all
over. After some recommendations from a buddy I joined up here:
http://www.hookupatthisplace.info/xytx and after 2 weeks I was already meeting
up with a beauty. Well, 14 months later and where still together and planning
our marriage for later this year =)

Hi Bill,
Bruce actually picks the notes individually, he keeps a base line going
with his thumb and plays out the higher end with his fingers but I think you
can
make the song your, my opinion is play with it try different strumming or
whatever and go with what sounds good and feels good for you.

John,
Do you have, or do you know where I can get the actual sheet music for this
song? I would
rather have the full music instead of the tabs.

See the songbook "Anything, Anytime, Anywhere" which has Pacing the
Cage. Not a bad book. Was published in connection with the
compilation cd. You can check Amazon for a list of the songs.

It's in the same tuning as "Wait no More" D-minor tuning:

Beyond that.....good luck!!

If you figure anything out I'd love to know 'cause it's a stunning tune.

Hello everyone!

I just got back to the group after a long break, if you want to call
it that (has anyone done any major reno's to their home all by
themselves, and working on-call in a hospital?)

Anyway, I've tried to get the tabs to this song for a while now but no
luck? I have also tried to get the sheetmusic from, and the book's
name alludes me now, that shop in Ottawa with no luck. I did however
found the Tunings in the"Files" portion of this site but not the tabs.
Does anyone have it in their files?

Greetings all,
I have been off list for a while but still playing and listening to
Bruce. Just wanted to know if anyone had figured out the chords for
The Rose Above the Sky? If so, I would be most appreciative.

I was just in England this past weekend for a workshop and someone
brought a guitar. I played One Day I Walk and someone there
immediately resognized it! How surprising. I also played All the
Diamonds and she got that one as well. She remembered them from many
years ago when Bruce played at a religious gathering.

Be well,
Kevin

Hey all... looking for a recommendation, I have an older Yamaha FG335 that
i would like to put a pickup in, for occasional hookup.

for primarily fingerstyle, a little bit of strumming, and no picks what are
you guys using?

I have my eye on a Martin thinline 332, but thats just the first thing I ran
into. Comments? What would best amplify my mistakes while trying to play
Bruce's music hehe :-)

Adam,

I tried a lot of pick ups before I bought my cheapo. I bought it
because honestly, for the money I couldn't hear enough difference to
legitimize the amazing expense of some of them. Honestly I think
using a good acoustic amp, like a really nice acoustic Fender, or
better, a Boogie amp is where the sound difference is. My pick up is
a Dean Markley humbucker and cost all of about $49.00 - even came
with "the wing" and a set of strings! I tried several (other than
the type that needs to be installed - glued, screwed, drilled etc)
and I just didn't hear enough difference to bother. The pick up I
have works great, is easy to put in and take out and so long as it is
run through a quality amp, sounds great. I know a lot of folks are
going to disagree with me - my brother in law included - but if this
is just occasional use, you can't go wrong with the Dean Markley. Do
splurge for the humbucker - that does make a difference.

Thanks, but I don't see it. I must be looking in the wrong place.
There are only about 11 songs and a refference to Gavin Mudd's page,
which is supposed to have tons of tabs, but when I click on it I get
a "forbidden, you are not permitted to access cockburn / tab on this
server" message. So where are these tabs? I know that's a silly
question, but everytime I needed one, someone emailed it to me in the
past, so I guess I never learned where to find the stuff.

Adam,

I put a Martin Thinline in my old Sigma and was pretty satisfied with the
result...I think it may have been the Gold...seems I paid around $100 for
it. It requires the least alteration of the guitar...short of a removeable
soundhole pickup. Others with similar prices to consider might be the LR
Baggs I-Beam or Lace makes an acoustic soundhole pickup, too. I was also
trying to remember what pickup Cockburn used in the Guild 12-string he
toured with a couple years ago...fit on the side of the soundhole and had a
couple controls on it...can see it in my head, but can't remember the brand
and can't seem to find it anywhere.

I just bought a Lawrence A-300 soundhole pickup (my first acoustic pickup),
which I use in a Yahama FG400, and it sounds purty good, nice and clear, not
muddy, even at higher volumes. . .I can get a neat sounding rendition of Angel
Beast, with some reverb and sustain, out of it, at least. Good luck, John
Adam Yavner <ayavner@...> wrote: Hey all... looking for a
recommendation, I have an older Yamaha FG335 that i would like to put a pickup
in, for occasional hookup.

for primarily fingerstyle, a little bit of strumming, and no picks what are
you guys using?

I have my eye on a Martin thinline 332, but thats just the first thing I ran
into. Comments? What would best amplify my mistakes while trying to play
Bruce's music hehe :-)

Thanks Jonathan! I did find it. Now for the next problem - not
being a computer person, does anyone have suggestions on how to
convert the tabs into something that looks like tabs on a MAC? When
I clicked on the tab it came up as some sort of strange text, and my
guess is it is a PC/MAC issue. Any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone for the responses. If anyone wants to elaborate with a link
to info about their chosen pickup (just to make sure i am looking at the right
one, if there are variations) that would be nice.

I'd try a couple of things...either way I'd save the file to your MAC.
Then just open your word processor. Once the program is running use the
"Open" function within the program, browse for the file. First I'd try to
just click the file open like you normally would. You may find it will
automatically convert the file to the appropriate format. I find it works
with PC files. If I just click on the file icon and the file was created
with a different program I get garbage, but if I open Word first then use
the "Open" function within Word, many times it will decipher the text and
reformat it. The files are saved as generic Rich Text Files, so they
should be easily read by most word processors.

The other thing to try if that doesn't work is to select a different File
Type from within the dialogue box that comes up when you use the "Open"
function...at least it's there in Windows.

If THAT doesn't work let me know. My wife has an i-MAC that's several
years old (that I never use) and I can play around on it and see if I can
come up with something. Let me know what program you're using.

And if NONE of this works, I can just embed the text in an e-mail to you.

:)

Jonathan.
