4 November 2003

Greetings:

It's been a while since our last newsletter, but since Bruce finished
the first leg of his tour and is just gearing up for the second leg
there wasn't much to report. However, a frequent contributor let us
know that on October 4, 2003 Bruce was inducted into the newly
created Folk Music Walk of Fame in Ottawa.

In the autumn of 2002 the Ottawa Folklore Center staff began the
steps to create a Folk Music Walk of Fame to coincide with the
revitalization of Bank Street, Ottawa. Ottawa is home to legendary
folk clubs such as the Rooster, The Wasteland, Le Monde and Le Hibou
where Bruce spent his early years playing. With the support of the
local government eight bronze plaques were set into the concrete
sidewalks on Bank Street along with 22 leaf-shaped blanks which will
leave room for expansion of the project.

Appealing to the public for nominations over 50 folk legends were
suggested but only six were chosen to be the first inductees. They
include Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Stan Rogers, Helen
Creighton, Jean Carignan and, of course, Bruce Cockburn. You can
read more about the project and the nominees at: www.folkwalk.ca

On November 21 the next three Cockburn reissues will be released by
Rounder with 24-bit digitally remastered tracks, enhanced artwork and
bonus tracks. High Winds White Sky has the new tracks Totem Pole and
It's An Elephant World, Humans has an additional live version of Grim
Travelers and Stealing Fire has Yanqui Go Home and Call It the
Sundance. The Cockburn Projects has pages for each of the new
releases.

Another contributor wrote:

In David Adams Richard's' newest novel entitled _River of the
Brokenhearted_, Cockburn is mentioned on page 57. Upon arriving in
Toronto from New Brunswick, the narrator writes: "I walked down Yonge
Street reflecting on this, and in the heat singing Cockburn's 'The
Coldest Night of the Year'."

Just a tidbit, but interesting, no?

We are receiving unconfirmed reports of additional tourdates popping
up, but until we receive word from True North we'll wait to publish
them.

Editor David Newton has gotten the setlist pages up to date from the
recent touring that Bruce has been doing. Thanks to all the
contributors who've sent in setlists, fan reviews, ticket stubs and
pictures to enhance these pages. They really are an interesting read
and offer a really nice 'snapshot' of each of the gigs. If you have
more information to contribute send it to:
setlists@...

That's it for this issue of The Cockburn News.

Peace,
Suzanne Myers
