Greetings:
I have some additional information to offer about the May 30th gig at
the Cardiff Coal Exchange,Cardiff, UK. Tickets are £16.00 and
available from the Coal Exchange on 02920 494917 or credit card
bookings via Ticketline on 02920 453900
They're on sale from now I believe.
This show is to benefit http://www.warchild.org and it's being
organized by one of the featured artists Martyn Joseph
http://www.martynjoseph.com. Here's what they had to say about the
gig in a recent Martyn Joseph Newsletter email:
"I am delighted to say that we've managed to coax the truly great
Bruce Cockburn into to appearing with Martyn at a WarChild benefit
Concert to be held in Cardiff at the Coal Exchange on Sunday May 30th
(yes, the end of this month), and are hoping to win a couple more
special guests along to make a truly great evening of music that says
or stands for something. Tickets should be on sale by the end of this
week [see updated information above], but I just wanted to give you
all a 'heads-up' before your diaries get too full. The Coal Exchange
will hold over 600 seated and it would be great obviously to get a
full house in Martyn's home city, for a cause he's obviously put a
lot of (somewhat frustrated) work into. Bruce Cockburn will be a real
coup - I don't think he's actually played in Wales for over 10 years
now.. so if there are fans of his out there please spread the word."
Martyn Joseph produced and was featured in the ep'Great American
Novel' last year for WarChild just to kind of speak up about the
situation in Iraq. More information about this release will follow.
Also involved in the evening is a Nigerian born artist called Ben
Okafor, who is the releasing a single called Thing with War to raise
awareness of the use of Child soldiers back in his native Nigeria and
other parts of Africa. While Ben does not appear to have a website
you can read about him at: http://www.onefestival.com/artists-
events.phtml
For those of you in Wales or elsewhere in the vicinity this sounds
like a rare opportunity to see Bruce and friends up close and
personal and benefit warchild at the same time.
Peace as always,
Suzanne Myers
