Happy Mother's Day! As always, The Chorus of the Genesee will be
putting on its biggest performance of the year the second
Saturday in May. This year we'll be presenting "My Old Home
Town". Our guest quartet will be Max Q, four guys with five
quartet gold medals and more than a dozen chorus gold medals
between them. We're especially proud to have them because the
lead's father was a director of the Chorus of the Genesee.

Annual Show at Theater on the Ridge

The Chorus of the Genesee and chapter quartets will be
presenting "My Old Home Town", an original show. Our featured
guest performers will be Max Q, a quartet whose members sport
about twenty International Contest gold medals. There's a
strong chance they'll be wearing four more after they compete
this Summer. One of the members, Tony DeRosa, sang with the
Chorus of the Genesee as a youngster, and we're thrilled to
have him visit. You don't want to miss it!

      * Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. The box office will
        open at 7:15.
      * Theater on the Ridge at 200 Ridge Road West in Rochester,
        New York
      * General admission tickets are $15 ($13 for students and
        seniors).
      * Tickets are available at the door, from any Chorus member
and at twenty-six Rochester-area Wegmans stores. You can
also get tickets by calling Bill at 585-342-4705.

Happy New Year! At this point, I'm even too late to be wishing
you a Happy Groundhog Day. I am just in time, though, for
Singing Valentines, which are just two days away! Once we've
serenaded the town, we'll be putting together our biggest
performance of the year: our Annual Show. This year we'll
be presenting "My Old Home Town". Our guest quartet will be
Max Q. They've never competed together, but these four guys have
five quartet gold medals and more than a dozen chorus gold
medals between them. We're especially proud to have them
because the lead's father was a director of the Chorus of
the Genesee. See you there!

Spring is still struggling to Spring in Rochester, but the
weather never hinders the Chorus of the Genesee! In spite of the
ice storm landing right on top of the District Convention a few
weeks ago, the Chorus of the Genesee emerged as the new District
Chorus Champions. We don't have time to rest on our laurels,
though, as our Annual Show is just around the corner. We hope to
see you there!

Whew! The Chorus of the Genesee is back from Portland, and our
Summer is just getting started. We'd like to thank all of you
who came to our show in May. We hope you had as much fun as we
did!

I apologize for the deviation from the usual format, but I wanted
to make sure everyone heard about this event! Barbershop at the
Beach is this Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 8:00. It's a
collection of choruses and quartets from the three major
barbershop organizations: SPEBSQSA, Sweet Adelines and Harmony,
Inc. This year, we'll even have For Heaven's Sake, a gold-medal
quartet from Watertown.

The Chorus of the Genesee will be singing shortly after 7:00,
but several chapter quartets, including Pier Four, Reunion,
Cornerstone, and Fever Pitch will also be singing throughout the
day.

The location is Charlotte Beach, which is on Lake Ontario just
west of where the Genesee empties into the lake. It's at the
north end of Lake Avenue. I've been assured that there's parking
at the beach in spite of the construction.

Assuming you read this Saturday, May 11, 2002, tonight's the
night! The Chorus of the Genesee has been working hard to bring
you the best in barbershop entertainment. We're looking forward
to seeing you at the Theater on the Ridge. Tickets are still
available at the door, and this is a show you won't want to miss.

After the show, we won't be slowing down, as the International
Contest is less than two months away. We'll be going all the way
to Portland, Oregon to compete against twenty top choruses from
North America and Europe. After that, we'll be doing several
outdoor performances, including the annual Barbershop at the
Beach. We'll be singing the national anthem at a Red Wings game
once again. We've also been invited back for a third performance
at the Sodus Bay Lighthouse. We hope to see you soon!

Annual Show 2002: There Ought to be Music in Everyone's Home

Each May, the Chorus of the Genesee pulls out all of the stops
for a show in the Theater on the Ridge. All of the chapter's
quartets and a special guest quartet gather to put on our
biggest performance of the year. This year's guest quartet is
Metropolis, and the day of the show will be the fourth
anniversary of their crowning as National A Cappella
Champions! They have also appeared on Diagnosis: Murder,
singing with none other than Dick Van Dyke.

      * Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. The box office will
        open at 7:15.

        New York
      * General admission tickets are $15 ($13 for students and
        seniors).

Guest Night

Guests are always welcome at all of our rehearsals, but a few
times a year we set aside a night to really give guests a
chance to meet the Chapter and the Chorus. You'll learn a
little bit of history, both of barbershopping in general and
of the Chorus. You'll hear a short program of both the Chorus
and a quartet, and you'll have a chance to do some singing
yourself. There will also be tours of Harmony House, our
historic building. Everyone is invited, so bring the family!

A few weeks ago, the Seneca Land District convened on the Roberts
Wesleyan campus to crown a new District Champion Chorus. The
Chorus of the Genesee won the title in 2001, so we were passing
on the trophy to the new champions. Congratulations to Batavia's
Holland Land Harmonizers. Great job, guys!

The Annual Show is just two weeks away. We've stepped up the
rehearsal schedule to make this the best show yet. In addition
to our guest quartet Metropolis, we'll also have the Spencerport
Swing Choir on hand to sing a few. You won't want to miss it!

Spring Contest is just a few days away, and all of Seneca Land
will gather at Roberts Wesleyan College to crown a new District
Chorus Champion. The Chorus of the Genesee won last year, so
we're not eligible to compete, but we will be "singing away the
trophy".

The Annual Show is also close by. The Chorus has been working
hard on new songs and new choreography to make this the biggest
performance of the year. If you've never seen the Chorus at
Theater on the Ridge, you're missing out!

Seneca Land District Spring Convention

The Chorus of the Genesee will be performing their last songs
as Seneca Land District 2001 Chorus Champions this
weekend. Twenty-four quartets will compete for a chance to
sing in the International Quartet Contest this Summer in
Portland, Oregon. Seventeen choruses will vie for the title fo
Seneca Land District 2002 Chorus Champions. The Chorus of the
Genesee will only be singing two songs Saturday night, but the
whole weekend is a great opportunity to experience the
barbershop form at its most pure. Two quartets from the
Rochester Chapter, Reunion and Fever Pitch, will be competing.

      * April 5-7, 2002 at Roberts Wesleyan College
           + Quartet Semifinals: Friday at 7:00 p.m.
           + Chorus Contest: Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
           + Quartet Finals: Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
      * A limited number of tickets to the individual events are
available at $10 each. Call Duke Brooks at 585-266-9077 to
        make a reservation.
      * The Chorus of the Genesee will be performing as part of
        the closing ceremonies Saturday night.

This year's special guest
quartet is Metropolis, and the day of the show will be the
fourth anniversary of their crowning as National A Cappella
Champions! They have also appeared on Diagnosis: Murder,
singing with none other than Dick Van Dyke.

      * Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 8:00 p.m.
      * Theater on the Ridge at 200 Ridge Road West in Rochester,
        New York
      * General admission tickets are $15 ($13 for students and

Ah, February. The Chorus of the Genesee is getting ready to
serenade lucky people all over Rochester. Yes, it's time once
again for Singing Valentines. This is one way to say "I love
you" that won't soon be forgotten.

already underway. This year's special guests are Metropolis,
Harmony Sweepstakes National Champions. Metropolis has even sung
on "Diagnosis Murder" with Dick Van Dyke! Mark your calendars

Rochester choruses and For Heaven's Sake, 1996 Harmony Queens.

      * Sunday, July 22, 2001 starting at 1:00 p.m. The Chorus of

        being at 4:00.

to start by thanking everyone who came to our Annual Show in May.

In the meantime, the Chorus is travelling to Nashville, Tennessee

Hello! I'm very sorry that it has been so long since the last
update. Unfortunately, I missed an event in there: the Seneca
Land District Spring Convention. I apologize to anyone who was
unable to attend because I wasn't on the ball. On the bright
side, the Chorus won the title of 2001 District Champions.

We're gearing up for our Annual Show, and this year's promises to
be great. After that, we'll be working on our contest package to
get it in top shape for the International Convention in July,
this year held in Nashville, Tennessee.

Annual Show: What's in a Name?

The Chorus of the Genesee pulls out all the stops for its
biggest performance of the year. We're proud to have nine
chapter quartets on the program this year. This year's
featured guest quartet is Freestyle, a District Champion
quartet from California. They were semi-finalists in the last
international competition, and they're among the funniest
quartets you'll ever hear. They recently performed in
Jamestown, and the audience wouldn't let them leave the stage!

      * Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 8:00p.m.
      * Theater on the Ridge in Rochester, New York
      * Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and
        seniors. Group rates are available.

The Chorus of the Genesee has just come back from Fall Contest,
and we're going to Nashville! We've won the right to represent
the Seneca Land District in the International Chorus Contest.
That won't be until next Summer, but there are still several
opportunities to hear the Chorus before the end of 2000. Several
people have already written asking for more information about
"The Gift". Thank you for your interest! I promise I will send
out more details as soon as I have them.

Harmony XXI

The Chorus of the Genesee will be a featured guest group at

by The Rochester Saenger Chor, The Webster Melowives, Kodak
Total Sound, Hilton Baptist Church Choirs, and The Kodak
Concert Band. The Webster High School Jazz Choir will also be
    a featured guest group.

The Chorus is getting ready to compete in the Fall Contest in
just a few weeks. Attending a contest isn't quite like a
concert, but is a treat for those who really enjoy the style.
I've been informed that the show at the New York Chiropractic
College is already sold out. Your next opportunity to hear the
chorus will be "The Gift", a holiday show presented in
conjunction with Image City Sound, a Sweet Adelines chorus. We
will also be doing our traditional caroling, of which I'll be
sure to keep you informed.

Seneca Land District Contest

The Chorus of the Genesee will be competing for the right to
represent the Seneca Land District at the International Chorus
Competition in July 2001. The contest weekend also includes a
two-night quartet contest to determine this year's District
Quartet Champions. Each competitor performs two songs. The
top quartets return to sing two more songs in the Finals. The
winning chorus performs again at the end of the Quartet
    Finals.

      * The contest weekend consists of three sessions:
           + Friday, October 6, 2000 at 7:30 p.m.: Quartet
	     Semifinals session
           + Saturday, October 7, 2000 at 12:00 noon: Chorus
             Contest session

tickets, call Duke Brooks at 716-266-9077. Tickets are
often available at the door, but reservations are advised.
