Flue - Beyond The Edge Of Nowhere

"Beyond the Edge of Nowhere" is Flue's first
full-length album, following the trio's debut 7" in
1999 on Obuh. This is a wonderfully atmospheric and
experimental recording: the enchanting and mysterious
sounds are created largely from guitars, bass, and
synth, imparting an extremely unique feel to the work.
It is certainly a very active work, with many diverse
elements and threads fused and juxtaposed together
(often simultaneously) into a cohesive whole, lasting
for fifty minutes.

Flue consists of three figures from the Bay Area
experimental music scene: Mason Jones, Jason Stein,
and Chris Miller. Mason is known through his solo
work, the classic Trance project, and his Charnel
Music label. He has also been a member of many groups,
including SubArachnoid Space and Culper Ring. Jason
has been a member of SubArachnoid Space and Tekachi,
and Chris has also been a member of Tekachi. This
album features guest contributions from Geoff Walker
(Gravitar).

The CD comes packaged in an elegant blue paper wallet
with silver printing. An audio sample is available on

AD "Bodysuit" CD
(Plastic Passion / Kenolamusic, Finland) - 1x

AD was  originally founded  in the 80's, released three vinyl albums (AD!,
Beirut,  and  Vladivostok), and  disappeared.  At  the  request of  Tocapo
Viracocha AD was reactivated in the end of year 2004.

The album  was initially  inspired  by  Captain Beefheart and was composed
during  one  afternoon.  However,  it  took  another six months before the
production  process  was finished.  On Bodysuit  AD has explored the point
where  human  voice  meets noise, liberty meets imprisonment and Hildegard
meets  Nina  Hagen.  AD  obeys  the  rule  of truth by not obeying anyone.
Fragments  used are  derived  from  industrial  metal  punk  via medi-evil
melodies and combined in black freudian kind of honesty.

Each  band  presents  it's own sonic Allegories of Death... meditations on
that inevitability we all fear and at the same  time are fascinated by. To
set the tone Exsanguinate starts with a commanding and urgent track, flush
with militaristic  undercurrents  in  it's opening moments. From there the
material  evolves  into  something more abstract and steeped in dread with
tendrils  stretching  into  elements  of  clinical  drone  and   throbbing
frequencies to a more introspective ambient chaos.
[l-i-t-d-n-a]  rounds  out the disc with their unique blend of deep tones,
harsh  frequencies,  gentle pulses  against  an  almost  ambient feedback.
Squalls,   static,   interjecting   beats,   squirming   distortions   and
vocalizations  accentuate an anxious,looming reality. [l-i-t-d-n-a] closes
among  fluid  environmental  recordings  juxtaposed  with clanks and pulse
beats,  to provide the score for a yet to be discovered altered state, one
in which reason is elusive.

MOCKINGWYRD "Cracks in the Void" 3"CDR
(Some Place Else, Finland) - 2x

Mockingwyrd. Not  much  is  known  about him/her/them (?) thus far, except
vague credits on a number of Finnish experimental releases (often by other
Some  Place  Else artists,  such as Ovro and Niko Skorpio). It is rumoured
that Mockingwyrd is also a bass player in several doom & thrash metal,jazz
and  experimental  groups.  Shadowy  names like Kaaos in Eccentris, Typhon
Sleeps Heavily  and  Rytannia  are  repeatedly whispered among the gossip.
Reportedly  a  mysterious  bass  wizard  participating in a recent show by
dark-ambient-experimental  artist  Cosine Nomine  was  also  identified as
Mockingwyrd.

Sceptics  maintain  Mockingwyrd  is just  another pen-name of a Some Place
Else-related artist. Some  others claim  he's an extra-terrestrial  entity
from  Aldebaran  and worship him as god of the new aeon.  Some  Place Else
representatives  dismiss both of these claims as nonsense, but what do you
know? Who do you believe?

Nevertheless,  Cracks  in  the  Void is an EP, to our knowledge the debut,
by Mockingwyrd. It contains  two tracks  recorded "in the void", employing
a  bass guitar with a carefully selected pile of effects. These two tracks
create  a  narrow  yet  spacious  interzone,  a one-off  meeting  point of
low-frequency drones and sparse yet delicate melodies. Press play, slip in
and enjoy your brief escape from daily routines.

NIKO SKORPIO "Escape from Heaven" CD

Escape from Heaven is the fruit of a lengthy period of hard work,the music
has been composed in 2000-05.The musick could be described as "industrial",
mostly  because  it  pays  homage to  the early  Industrial groups such as
Throbbing Gristle,  Coil  or Psychic  TV  by being  a wide-ranged beast of
experimentation as well as fusion of diverse styles.

Skorpio's wide-ranged  musical  background  shines  through in Escape from
Heaven; from  the deep  dark ambient soundscapes of last year's The Hidden
Nameless album, down to the cult bands Thergothon and This Empty Flow that
Niko formed in the 90's. Despite the rather diverse contents,  Escape from
Heaven  is  musically  a solid  package. Escape from Heaven also carries a
loose storyline that can be interpreted in occult,mythological, social and
personal levels. Basically the album is a Manifesto of personal Liberation
and a declaration of war against all forces of boredom and stagnation.

Omei  expresses  itself  through  the  idea of "One thought for a thousand
years." The same memory played over and over until it drives you. The mind

A longly anticipated album "the Danu's Rebith" by Bararum project  that is
just out of production strives to traditions of neofolk sounding.The basic
theme of the album is taken from Nik Perumov's novel  "the Diamond sword /
the wooden sword", whose magical but realistic and bright images have been
Strakhinya's and Skryling's inspiration in their rather successful attempt
to reconstruct unique atmosphere of the elven, human and gnomes world.And,
certainly,  wonderful  music tells  about strange and miraculous people of
Danu, about young emperor's way and his unusual love to a girl of Danu.

Unprepared listener may find the album a little bit complex to understand -
the absence of a vocal, flying fifes tempo, unordinary fiddle parties make
compositions really swift and versatile.Produced style of music appears to
be quite unique, since the fundamental ideas of compositions are delivered
through nonclassical musical tools.

It is neither a pseudo-celtic folk nor slavic tunes, in general this music
is rather indirectly connected with national one,but it is a certain alloy
of new  pseudo-ethnic  melodies and the modern approach of music creation.
Fifty minutes of sound represent  10  themes, all united by the basic idea
and perceived on  uniform breath. Each composition tells about the certain
episode or the hero of the book.

IN MEDITARIUM is maybe Ukraine's finest dark ambient-project at this time,
consisting of Sergey Svistelnik (who also runs the UKRAINIAN DARK SYNDICATE
and is musically active as FILIVS MACROCOSMI),and Oleg Kolyada (mastermind
of FIRST HUMAN FERRO (F.H.F.) / ODA RELICTA).

MARE  INTERNUM,  their  first  vinyl-release,  is  a  perfect  example for
"esoteric  organic  drones"  that impress with their density and fullness:
slowly  waving   drones,  sub-bass  pulses,  totally  suspended  &  hidden
harmonies  appear  in the background and soft ringing-tones, like being in
an huge organic cathedral...

Listening to IN MEDITARIUM-sounds might give you an impression of touching
something  "unknown",  yet known unconsciously from some forgotten time...
like being suspended in warm mothers womb....

Esoteric.

'The Pernicious Enigma'  is best  described as Ambient Funeral Doom Metal.
They can be related to bands such as Thergothon and Skepticism,but possess
a much more complex and layered sound.  The album, split over 2 CDs is 115
minutes in length and is spread out over a mere 9 tracks.  Extremely  slow
rumbling  guitars  provide a solid foundation on which to build the sounds

okay, clearly I have nothing better to do with my time, but after
checking out the Chamber sampler cd got me thinking about various
promised CS albums that never materialised:

Mark Snow - will this EVER see the light of day?
Endvra - i know they split up but surely - a bit of mastering and
completion and a nice swansong to a great career?
Novatron - loved the first album but no sign of CSR51?
Kerovnian - I'm sure was signed on a multi-deal but after those two
albums came out absolutely nothing.

Love to know what happened to all of those...

Yes... and then there are the simple things in life... like taking
pictures of your own family, capturing historic events, band photos
(of much relevance to us!), even wildlife FFS.

I did hear yesterday that it *could* have come from just 1 politician
frantic about the fact that paedophiles take pictures of children in
'malls' and that this is good enough reason to punish the rest of the
nation.

Is it just me, or is New Labour not so far away from becoming a
fascist government? We aren't allowed to take photos, yet our lives
are being constantly surveyed by CCTV. Our civil liberties being
slowly stripped away bit by bit....

Don't even get me started on ID cards! :-)

Yes... and then there are the simple things in life... like taking
pictures of your own family, capturing historic events, band photos
(of much relevance to us!), even wildlife FFS.

I did hear yesterday that it *could* have come from just 1 politician
  frantic about the fact that paedophiles take pictures of children in
'malls' and that this is good enough reason to punish the rest of the
nation.

Is it just me, or is New Labour not so far away from becoming a
fascist government? We aren't allowed to take photos, yet our lives
are being constantly surveyed by CCTV. Our civil liberties being
slowly stripped away bit by bit....

Don't even get me started on ID cards! :-)
