Curious Gage, 2006 Harmony Sweepstakes Regional Champions, have announced they will be holding auditions for a new member.  Effective immediately, this award-winning vocal band will be seeking male and female singers to replace a departing member.  Applicants should possess a strong solo voice capable of expressing pop, jazz, and musical theater, as well as the ability to read-music and blend with a small ensemble group.  All vocal parts will be considered, although baritone/tenors and mezzo soprano/altos will be favored, as well as anyone possessing vocal percussion skills.  All interested parties should contact nic@... for more details, or visit http://www.curiousgage.com/audition to apply.

Curious Gage, a five-member vocal band, is based out of Fort Collins, Colorado.  As one of the only a cappella groups in Northern Colorado, Curious Gage blends pop and rock styles with vocal percussion to create a unique contemporary sound.  The group has enjoyed national a cappella recognition and local acclaim since winning the Harmony Sweepstakes Rocky Mountain Regional competition in 2006.  Other achievements include awards for outstanding vocal percussion, original arrangement, and original song.  After eight years of singing, Curious Gage still continues to spread its love of vocal harmony across the Front Range.

Hey Everyone,

In the early 90's (yes, I'm showing you my age) there was an incredible place for a cappella groups to perform every weekend called Acappellas.  This brought out a huge crowd every week and kept several groups making money year round.  I'd like to start an a cappella series of concerts to try and revive this concept and thus, help bolster a cappella in our community.  This will also serve as a launching point for new groups, giving them an open forum to perform for their fans and Denver!

I'm writing to you because you are part of the a cappella community in Denver.  Whether you are in a group or not, you probably know of a group that would love to perform.

Here are the details:

When:  November 7th 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM and future dates to be confirmed 6 per year minimum
Where:  Casselman's venue and bar (All Ages)
Why:  To feature a cappella groups, new and seasoned.  Also, it will cap off a great weekend of a cappella with the Mile High Vocal Jam the previous 2 days.
Who:  Any group that would like performance experience, a place to invite their fans to a show.
Why Here:  The sound is amazing and the venue is really cool with food and a great bar.
The Pay:  Yes all groups will be paid based on attendance by their fans.  $6 per person goes to the groups.  200 fans = $1200

I will be inviting party planners, media, and booking agents to the show.

The deadline to respond to this gig offer is October 22nd.  I have already secured the date in the venue.  I will host this concert if 3 or more different groups respond.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like a spot in the lineup.  The performance times will vary by group and is flexible to your repertoire.  Once the performance times are set, you will have a set time to advertise to your fans.

I will take a maximum of 6 groups for this event.

Please pass this along to anyone you know who has an a cappella group that might be interested.

Thank you,

It has been very difficult to find/keep vocal harmony ladies to sing with us, so
we are embarking on a possible men only group to eliminate the problems with
vocalists who are wrapped up in their kids and other soccer-mom type endeavors

I am gathering names for starting right after the December holidays to see what
kind of group we may be able to form. Here is a link to our "old" group:

The cover charge for the concert is $10.  $6 of which goes to the groups.  We will be keeping a tally of everyone who enters and what group they are there to see.  So get out your fans and friends!  The more you bring, the more you make.

Pulling from elements of his work as a touring singer, musical theater
actor, songwriter, beatboxer (vocal percussionist), teacher and
contemporary a cappella voice artist, Mister Tim : Vocal Magic is an
exploration of the human voice. "Live-looping," or electronically
layering sounds, Mister Tim builds full songs with just his one voice,
adding drums, instruments, melodies and harmonies, weaving sonic
stories with thoughtfully-written original songs and creatively
twisted covers. Sublime to humorous, with a healthy dose of
audience-fueled improvisation.

Hi, friends!

The Contemporary A Cappella Society has created a state-specific web
site for Colorado A Cappella.

http://www.casa.org/co

Now, in addition to the great articles, blogs, and forum discussions
you can get from casa.org, not to mention the benefits for paying
members, you can now register (for free), add or edit your group in
the Acapedia Group Database, and add your upcoming gigs and
aca-related events to the calendar.

You can 'join' groups that you wish to stay in contact with: CO is
Colorado; also look for your favorite local and national acts. When
you add events to the calendar, they will be added to the national
calendar _and_ automatically be added to the CO calendar.

So, if you want to know what's going on in Colorado A Cappella, check
out casa.org/co!

Hi, friends!

Overboard, a great Boston-area a cappella group, is offering their
amazing album HELP! for free download until Nov 30th.

I know these guys, they are cool, but I'm advertising this album not
for their benefit but for yours: the album is ASTONISHING and I think
every self-respecting a cappella fan MUST hear it.

Also, it's FREE.

Download it now.

Yes, we truly are fishers of men

Cross Wise, a Denver-based barber-gospel quartet composed of current and former members of the Sound of the Rockies barbershop chorus, is saddened to announce the departure of our bottomless, boffo basso, Kevin Kaiser.  Kevin is leaving Colorado to pursue a career in the culinary arts in Washington, D.C.  We wish him all the best; he will truly be missed.

We have some big (and deep!) shoes to fill, but are looking forward to spreading gospel harmony with a new bass.  Auditions will be held in the coming weeks, with the goal of filling the vacancy before January 1st.  We are pretty laid-back guys, and have agreed not to be a competitive quartet; however we are serious about quality performance.  Qualifications are as follows:

Ability to hit Eb below low C with aplomb

         Quartetting experience is a plus

Sight-reading skills, or aptitude for harmonizing by ear

         Strong work ethic

Comfortable performing in front of an audience

Coachability (check your ego at the door, please!)

Desire to have some serious fun!

Our repertoire features many well-known barbershop arrangements, such as When I Lift Up My Head, Goodbye, World, Goodbye, and No More Sorrow.  We also have several original arrangements, including The Jericho Road, Ol Brother Noah, and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.  Okay, "Twinkle" isn't really a gospel song, but there is a child's prayer overlay in the final verse!

If you are interested in making some joyful noise with us, please contact Roger at rogero65@... to set up an audition date & time.  Well provide sheet music and part-predominant midi or voice files of two repertoire songs of our choosing.  We look forward to hearing from you!

In Gods Harmony,

Mark Palmer (T)

Scott Anderson (L)

Roger Olson (Br)
