Hello A Cappella enthusiasts,

You are likely a recipient of the Colorado Songster quarterly newsletter and probably affiliated with the Colorado Vocal Jazz Society and/or CASA-Colorado. If you don't receive the newsletter and would like to, please send your snailmail address and telephone number to this email address.

The purpose of this message is to see if you wish to consider providing information about your activities, or a group with which you are affiliated, for:
(1) the CVJS website <www.cvjs.org>,
(2) the Colorado Songster (from CVJS), or
(3) the Contemporary A Cappella Society International Newsletter (CAN).

We are interested in information about your vocal group or related activity to be used as a "CVJS Profile" article in the next issue of Colorado Songster. This would require sending us background and current info as well as contact info, a digital photo, logos and anything else that might be applicable. Your icon link, title and description might also be placed on the CVJS website.

Basically, first priority information is for the calendars in these publications, with information for short articles also welcome. We would greatly appreciate your participation.

These information venues publish at different dates, so right now we are looking at information for October through January which you would like to see published. The rule of thumb is that the preponderance of performing information or performances be devoted to a cappella presentation, especially as vocal jazz or contemporary a cappella (CAC) with consideration given to other formats such as Accompanied Vocal Groups, Barbershop, Gospel, etc. The current Colorado Songster deadline is September 20.

The website, of course, is ongoing and does not display a calendar.

The next deadline for CAN input is October 1.

You can send digital information (including photos) to me at <rjsharette@...> or in hard copy, to CVJS, PO Box 19137, Boulder 80303-2137 (please let me know by email if you have snail mail on the way).

Meanwhile, here is the format in which we would like to get your calendar input:

Date (assume within next 4-5 months)
Name of Group or Sponsoring Organization and Name of Event
Venue (e.g. auditorium) and brief address
City (in CO or nearby), fee (if known) and phone number for tickets (if applicable)

The Colorado Songster also publishes a "Classified Column" and welcomes listings from any side of the equation: groups looking for members, singers looking for groups or organizations looking for performance groups or individuals. Please provide such information in the following format:

Category of need: as above
Group or individual name and location
Short description of need
Contact phone and/or email address.

If your group has any news to announce -- new albums, new members, awards, media appearances or other tidbits -- please send information (and photos?) along also. These may be published in the Colorado Songster or in CAN.

Finally, the Colorado Songster is also offering advertising space at very reasonable rates. If you have a product to offer or a service or performance to provide to some of the 600+ subscribers to our newsletter, you can buy commercial space (music stores, studios, other firms) for $40 for a 2" column (3.8" wide) and $10 for each added inch up to 5" (1/4 page). Vocal groups and related activities can advertise for $25 for 2" and $5 for added inches, max: 5". If your ad is not camera ready or in digital form, a setup charge of $10 and $5 is applicable. Call me with questions: 303-413-8774.

Thanks for your help in encouraging support for contemporary a cappella music in our state.

Hello!
This Saturday, September 21st from 3:30-5:00pm Groove Society will be
performing up Estes Park, CO in the Autumn Gold Festival. The stage
will be located on Elkhorn Ave., the main street where all of the
major shops are. The performance will be held outside and the stage
is located at Bond Park. Admission is free and there will be plenty
of great food and events to culminate the event. Groove Society
performs eclectic genres of music from jazz, R&B, pop, swing, funk
and others. This is also a great time to enjoy the fall colors on the
way to Estes Park. Most of all the trees should have changed over by
now. Also, during this time is the "Elk Rut" and you might be able to
catch interesting displays from the elk around the area. For more
information please go to:

Hey A Cappellists!

It's time again for the all around, most important a cappella event of the year. If any of you groups are serious about your a cappella 'stuff' this is the place to be, come November 9-10. Just review the line-up and offerings and you'll see why. Find a way to get there; it will bring the whole serious a cappella scene into perspective. Many groups have made it there together, then appeared the following year in the 'showcases' and now are featured in events around the country. Are you serious about your a cappella?

In case you skimmed too quickly over the posting, here it is again:

Hey Everybody!

Joe and Bianca here with Groove Society. Just wanted to let you all
know that we're competing in the Battle of the Bands Competition
hosted by the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News and we NEED
YOUR HELP!!! We're the ONLY a cappella group among the 150 bands that
are competing. The top 25 groups will be competing at the Soiled Dove
on five different nights. With your vote, we can make sure that a
cappella is represented in the finals.

To vote please follow these instructions:

        1) go to http://www.postnewsbattleofthebands.com and scroll
down to "view selected bands".
        2) in the drop down box that says "select a band" find the
name Groove Society.
        3) Once on our page, scroll down to the music clips and the
voting box.

It's also important that you download both of the sound clips as this
factors into the final score. Voting ends on October 8th so be sure
to cast your vote by then!

We appreciate all of your support and we'll let you know if we make
the finals so you can come out and root for a cappella!!!

Thank you,

Hello A Cappellists,

In putting together the final info for this month's Colorado Songster newsletter
(which is going to be a bit late -- sorry), I realized I had accumulated a lot
of pre-release info on CDs presently in production. I decided to do a last
minute article on the six or so for which I had some early info. Not wanting to
leave out any of our Colorado groups, I'm asking you to send me any release or
pre-release info your group may have to share and I'll include it in the column
about new CDs.

To qualify, I need to limit the groups to those who have produced and released
something in the <last 90 days> and any who will have new CDs on the market <by
December 31>. If you would like to be included, get a short email write-up back
to me by the weekend. Info should be no more than <75 words> and include style,
group size, holiday significance if any, and how to get a copy. No cover art
will be included. I will asterisk any that expect to be listed in the MAC or PAC
catalogs also.

If you have any significant info about other activities to send along, we may
have room for a couple of additional short blurbs. We are adding a couple of
pages to take care of newly received ad opportunities.

Do it before you forget!

Lucky you! I've got your email address and you are one of those musical,
creative, or otherwise smart people I think I can ask for advice.

I have a small group of singers, 20 in all, that are the crème de la crème
of the Young Voices choirs. For two years they have been called the Select
Ensemble, for lack of a better term. But we are doing a major brainstorming
session to try to get a few more ideas. We want something with a little bit
of pizzazz, but not too obnoxious.

This group sings all kinds of music, from Bach and Britten to folksongs to
Christmas carols to John Denver, and everything else in between, the full
gamut. Last year's biggest hits were a 5-part arrangement of "I'll Be Home
for Christmas," a 6-part arrangement of a Finnish folksong, and the "Theme
from New York, New York."

They are boys and girls, ages 11-15, in grades 6 through 9. They sing in our
Concert Choir (a group of about 60) once a week and rehearse an additional
night per week in the small group.

They are selected mostly because of their good intonation, making it
possible to sing close harmony. Usually they sing in 4 parts.

Your mission, should you wish to accept it, is to visit our web site if
necessary (www.youngvoices.org) and dream up some suggestions for us.

So far the best ideas we have are:

Diversions
Opus 2
Finale

Thanks in advance for your phenomenal ideas!!!

Hugs,
Jena

Susan Martin wrote: "as many of you may have already heard, m-pact's vehicle and equipment were stolen from their Denver hotel parking lot last weekend.  To help replace what was stolen the Lakewood Cultural Center will host a Benefit Concert THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13 AT 2pm."

What a shock to read of the misfortune of most every Coloradan's favorite "visiting" a cappella group. I just want to endorse the request from Lakewood's Susan Martin to help m-pact regain some of their loss by attending their added Sunday benefit concert. I'm sure the Lakewood Cultural Center is donating facilities and staff  to help out, but your attendance there will mean personal as well as financial support.

These guys are amazing performers and if you haven't seen/heard them before, please make your way to 470 S. Allison Parkway to catch them this weekend. My wife, Bev, and I have heard them many times since their first Spring Sing performance at Estes in 1996. We may just show up again on Sunday to indicate our support.

Meanwhile, you can contact any of the guys at their website and send any snailmail condolences, ideas or contributions to m-pact PO Box 1698 Issaquah, WA 98027-0068.

Somehow these things shouldn't happen to a cappellists.

Folks,

Here is some additional info from Marco Cassone of m-pact (the kinda good looking one) <g>.

Marco replied to my 'sympathy' note to the group indicating the severe hole this event has put in m-pact's plans, programs and pocketbook. Their practically total capital worth was in that vehicle, over $85,000 in equipment, CDs and other property gathered in their 7 years' existence.

This Sunday's benefit in Lakewood may get them a small start on financial recouping (the cops likely don't hold out much hope for actual recovery of the property), but they have a long road to go to get back where they were. Can anyone come up with any other Colorado ideas to help them?

Picture your group in a similar circumstance. Let's look down the road to what any of us might do to help.

~ A Colorado "group festival" concert to benefit m-pact?
~ A donation of 10% of fees collected thru Dec 31 from every CO group that wants to participate?
~ Donation boxes at regular concerts and clubs where m-pact has played and/or CO groups have played?

I don't know what might work, but after m-pact's 'impact' on Colorado a cappella, I hope we could do something. Do you recall the series of benefits m-pact gave as a follow up to Columbine? Are you aware of the contribution they have made to keeping the Colorado Vocal Jazz Camp alive and effective? Did you know how active they were making contributions to the Red Cross after 9/11? I know a lot of our groups have been equally as effective, but most of us don't earn our livelihood in this business (don't we wish?).

A lot of good things have come out of Greeley, and m-pact is certainly one of them.

Let's look into our own situations and see how and where the Colorado a cappella community (there are over 200 of you on the message board alone) can help pick up the pieces for five of our professional brethren who could use a little encouragement right now. I'm reworking the fall "Colorado Songster" right now to include an article about this loss and m-pact's local connections. Knowing we are behind them and respect what they do could mean worlds to their ability to stay positive and get back on top.

Right away, I'll try to bring together a "Bolder A Cappella" effort to participate. How about you all?

Hi friends!

After singing a few “private” gigs (among them, a benefit golf tournament in Evergreen which was awesome fun and a 90th Birthday Party for David Miller which is downright inspiring) we’re back in the public eye for a few engagements. Hope you can come hear us!

Cheers!

Hi,

I directed a women's a cappella group out of Boulder, IRIS, for thirteen years, and am now publishing the original and traditional arrangements.  You can check out my
current catalog, see and listen to scores, hear clips, and order music from our CD's at the following website:

www.voixcelestemusic.com

All of the music on the CD's will be available soon (I am still in process with a number
of charts).  Although originally written for women's voices, many of the charts are
suitable for high school groups as well.  Plus, I am currently rewriting some of the
audience favorites for SATB.

I also have a dynamite jazz arrangement of the Christmas standard, "Chestnuts
Roasting" (The Christmas Song), for seven voices, available now.  It was arranged
by jazz pianist Art Lande --- very challenging harmonically, but wonderful when
done well.

Please contact me for more information, or to discuss any of the music you might find
interesting.

Thanks,

Joanna Lynden

Several of you asked about whether m-pact's lost van, trailer and equipment were insured. Here's the scoop from Marco. As I thought, coverage for touring equipment is prohibitively expensive, so they frankly came up short in that respect. As an alternative, they would normally hope to cover some through clauses on homeowners' insurance, but as he says below, they screwed up. Here's an excerpt:

". . . the vehicle and trailer were fully insured up to the blue-book value. Prospects are okay -- ‘97 van w/ over 180K miles on it.  Won’t be enough to buy a new van, but will give us a start. The cargo was not insured. True, it could have been partly covered by my own homeowner’s insurance, but my condo building had a huge flood awhile back, which caused me to lose my insurance due to the size of our claims. Yep, screwed up and are paying the penalty all the way around. But we’ll figure something out."

He also says they appreciate our ideas to help, but wouldn't feel right about any group forwarding part of their fees or doing anything like that. As he says, "all groups everywhere are in the same boat when it comes to making money in the music biz. M-pact will just have to look at this temporary set-back as just that.  Besides, there is always much to be grateful for. Just time to work harder and kick butt."

He suggests that they may try to set up a Metro area date down the road a bit and would like to ask all groups to make a special effort to promote that event for them with their own contacts and mailing lists. "We wouldn’t want to take anyone’s mailing lists per se; but if Trist can work up a future show in the area, it would help us if other groups would send out a “hey, come check these guys out” email to each of their lists. Wouldn’t cost anyone a dime. And whenever any of those groups comes to Seattle, we’d be happy to return the favor."

Sounds like a win-win to me. Let's see what Trist can come up with. Meanwhile, thanks for your notes of concern and advice.

I Feel so far away from everything here in Chicago to help, but will check online sites for anything similar.  Please keep your eyes open while on road, in pawn shops, used music equip stores, and online auctions for Mpacts gear, and report anything suspicious immediately.  Especially if you've seen their stuff up close before, and can recognize.  Hope everything gets found, and those who stole it are brought to justice!  Paul

I promise this will be the last post about m-pact for awhile, but for many of you who have responded with questions and concern, the following quotes from m-pact's current maillist message will be of special interest.

Meanwhile, with borrowed sound and some makeshift production changes, m-pact absolutely "walloped" (in-joke for those who were there) the standing room only crowd at Lakewood's Cultural Center Hall Saturday evening. I won't go on with the kudos, but the versatilityand quality of their show was only exceeded by the warmth and love they extended to their enthusiastic audience. It was quite an experience.

Here' are some of Marco's notes from their message to fans:

"This is Marco from m-pact.  Not only do I receive great reward from singing with this group, I often receive great headaches from my siderole as the group's Business Director -- especially in times like these . . .

The amazing thing we've witnessed through this bizarre twist of fate has been an overwhelming cry of compassion and support from our friends and fans around the world. We couldn't have imagined this many heart-felt replies.

[In addition to our Lakewood "Seattle or Bust"benefit on Sunday,] we just found out that one of our favorite venues in Seattle, the Broadway Performance Hall, has also donated a "Keep the Music Playing" benefit concert for m-pact on Wednesday October 30th at 7:30pm.  More info will be on-line very soon . . .

We are also grateful to many of you for contacting us and asking what you can do to help.  Some of you have even started sending us contributions:

Last night after a sold-out performance, a man dressed in jeans and a t-shirt tucked a folded scrap of paper in my shirt pocket and said, "I can't thank you enough for what you've done for my son's music -- put this toward a new sound system so we all can keep hearing you."  At the end of the night in the dressing room, I rediscovered his scrap of paper:  a personal check for $500.  We were humbled and speechless.

Knowing that so many of you have expressed interest in helping us rebuild our career, we've set up a "Keep the Music Playing" fund, secured and monitored by a great entertainment finance management company near Seattle. If you are among the many fans and friends of m-pact who would like to help out, you may send your contribution directly to:

M-pact
C/O VWC Management

Bellevue, WA 98005-2333

On behalf of all of us in m-pact, we thank you for your contribution, be it monetary or otherwise.  Every small gift is still a gift that will help us get back to where we were.

Sincerely and with vision,  Marco"

The Colorado Songster got out late this fall, and we apologize for that. For those of you not on our snailmailing list, here's some of the items reported on in more depth in the publication. If you don't receive the Songster and would like to, send an email to rjsharette@... listing your name, address and a phone number (for verification) and we'll be happy to see you get the January and subsequent issues. Here's a sampling from the fall Colorado Songster:

CELEBRATION! -- COME ON!
The CU BUFFoons held, if not the biggest, maybe the most enthusiastic, a cappella "party" of the season in Boulder the first weekend of October. It was their 40th anniversary and they made the most of it. About 60 alums attended the weekend festivities and were immersed in song and frivolity from morning to night. Congratulations to Colorado's oldest college student-led ensemble! Go for another 40, guys!

FABLED CHRISTIAN MUSIC GROUP, "ACAPPELLA," MAKES THE COLORADO SCENE
From a report by Dona Ramsey of Good Company A Cappella and others, "Acappella" made sold out appearances in Longmont on the Front Range (the Denver side of the Divide) and over on the Western Slope in late August. They arrived in Grand Junction at 8am on the Saturday of their concert, despite the bus breaking down as they drove over the Rockies earlier in the morning. The bus had broken down once before in Trinidad. Tired from the trip and their Longmont concert just ten hours before, Acappella didn't let their energy slacken. After a full day of "civic" activities, a huge concert and afterglow, Acappella was on the road again that night to their next concert the very next evening -- all the way over across two states to Kansas City, Missouri! Such is the lifestyle of the less-than-rich, but very famous.

2002 VOCAL JAZZ/SHOW CHOIR FESTIVAL
Dave Filsinger reports the Colorado High School Activities Association held its Vocal Jazz/Show Choir Festival last May at the Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. It was very successful. Forty-one groups competed during the two day event. The 17th Avenue Allstars and the Festival's top three vocal jazz/contemporary a cappella groups performed at the Friday concert.

COLORADO TO ADD CASA "AREA AMBASSADORS"
Along with its spectacular geography, Colorado hosts some of the most challenging transportation experiences in the nation. A Cappella fans are often compelled to drive hundreds of difficult miles to take in the latest and greatest group or concert venue. In addition, the attempt to inform and coordinate many local a cappella efforts from the Denver area alone generally ends up leaving those in the North, South and especially the West wishing they could get more things going locally. Hopefully, that situation can be alleviated by a new program we're testing intended to encourage local support and involvement. We have identified and are training at least three "Area Ambassadors" to serve outstate locations that for some time have shown promise of a cappella interest and support. By coordinating their mutual support and identifying a cappella resources in their own areas, they will be providing a great service to our state and its growing a cappella community. More about this in another message.

KGNU-CVJS PROMOTE A CAPPELLA
We think we've found a "Mutual Admiration Society." It's radio station KGNU in the Boulder/Denver area. The musical content on this listener-supported station (88.5 FM) is like no other found on area dials. Name a genre and is has a time slot. A Cappella is frequently heard among the styles of music played live and recorded on KGNU, but of course we fans would like to see it explored within its own unique environment. A step in that direction is the station's agreement with our nonprofit Colorado Vocal Jazz Society to inaugurate a mutual promotion plan that will find CVJS underwriting KGNU advertising projects in exchange for public service announcements that help spread the word about our favorite musical genre. Let's see what comes of this.

NEW A CAPPELLA RECORDINGS ON THE SCENE
Every a cappella group in the Rocky Mountain area seems to be attempting to please their various audiences with new recordings before 2002 comes to a close. And they vary from a cappella pop and rock to vocal jazz to Barbershop. We've never seen such focused efforts in this direction. Among the groups we know about are the following seven, spread through Utah and Colorado: Eclipse from Logan, the Denver A Cappella Project, Moosebutter from Provo, The New Wizard Oil Combination on the Front Range, Sound of the Rockies from Denver's Mile High SPEBSQSA Chapter, Storm Front, an award winning Barbershop quartet in the Metro area, and Sugarhouse Voices from Salt Lake City. (Some of you may recognize Moosebutter as a project of Tim Jones, Utah Ambassador.) We wish them all well and will watch for their CDs to hit the "private label" market.

M-PACT "OWNS" ITS AUDIENCES
Well, m-pact's recent extended tour of Colorado cities, schools and colleges provided mixed blessings. Most of you have heard the story of Denver's "theft hospitality" so I won't dwell on that, but that event certainly didn't lessen the group's 'impact' on their audiences and venues. As an example, with borrowed sound and some makeshift production changes, m-pact absolutely "walloped" (in-joke for those who were there) the happy standing-room-only crowd at Lakewood's Cultural Center Hall October 12. The versatility and quality of their performance was only exceeded by the warmth and love they extended to their very enthusiastic audience -- who sent it back to them with interest. All in all, it was quite an experience. Their $85k loss of van, trailer and equipment hasn't slowed them down a bit. And Colorado fans have been responding. For those of you who didn't see it, Marco (Cassone) had this to say in a recent email: "Last night after a sold-out performance, a man tucked a folded scrap of paper in my shirt pocket and said, 'I can't thank you enough for what you've done for my son's music.' At the end of the night in the dressing room, I rediscovered his scrap of paper: a personal check for $500! We were humbled and speechless."

CASA REWORKS ITS MISSION
We have been trying to find ways to encourage support for CASA in its recent growth dynamic. We have published an updated brochure about CASA and CVJS activities, have devoted a full page article and ad in our fall newsletter to encourage renewals and new memberships and are looking for cooperative ventures through local entertainment and educational organizations that may be able to draw attention and support from new sources. You'll be hearing more about this in the coming months. Meanwhile, if any of you have questions about the impressive benefits of CASA membership, send your query to this message board or to rjsharette@... and we'll get you an answer.

BOLDER A CAPPELLA SUCCEEDS
After a great audience response to the spring Monday evening "Bolder A Cappella" series at Boulder's Redfish Brewhouse, new owner Steve Shenk asked for summer events to test continued interest. The summer proved equally successful, with local groups "Harmonia" and "3-Story Limit" playing to sizable and responsive audiences in mid-July and mid-August, months when the Front Range crowds usually seek peaks, patios and picnics rather than frequenting the bar scene. Steve later made the decision to schedule a fall series and has committed to welcoming a cappella groups and their audiences indefinitely into Redfish's and the Boulder area's future. September brought a schedule change to Tuesday evenings to avoid competition with Monday Night Football, as well as the inclusion of some of the area's better known and successful professional groups like 17th Avenue Allstars and Cool Shooz in the bi-weekly schedule. The series also features Barbershop, Doo Wop, Gospel and other styles to grab an unusually diverse range of fans to the spectrum of a cappella experience. A "Holiday A Cappella" Festival will grace Sunday evenings in December and CU and other college groups are also slated to participate as the new winter schedule is put together.

If you haven't been to Redfish, on 13th north of the Pearl Street Mall, check out "Groove Society" on October 22, "face" on November 12 and "Cool Shooz" on November 19. You'll have a great time!

If you have news for the Songster, please watch for the request for input prior to our December 24 deadline. We'll be happy to include your input and photos.

Spend next Tuesday evening at Redfish Brewhouse in Boulder and enjoy the music!

"The Groove Society" will be on deck at 7:30 and 9pm for two great a cappella shows in the friendly music room beyond the bar at Redfish, on 13th Street north of the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. It's family music night and all are welcome.

This great up-and-coming jazz-pop sextet will bring its smooth and groovy sounds to the Tuesday evening crowd for a no cover, no extras, no foolin' good musical time for all. And while you're at it, enjoy Redfish's special brews, which this year won two prestigious awards at the Great American Brewing Festival -- the only Colorado brewery to do so!

Where else can you find as good a time on a Tuesday? Or any night!

Dick Devin, director of the Colorado Skakespeare Festival and a huge jazz fan, sent the following website address to me for my review. I found it very interesting and decided, even though it may represent a political viewpoint outside of our interest in a cappella, it is important that we have these considerations before us when we vote on November 5.

Please take time to review the candidates' answers and opinions and consider their viewpoints carefully.

Hello a cappellists,

There may be groups out there who would like to perform as a cappella features in Boulder, Colorado. For the most part, we have been scheduling groups who are included in a list of CASA and CVJS partners that we know to be capable and audience favorites. That by no means indicates that other active groups out there would not also be welcome. If you have a potential group, here is information currently being distributed among the 20 groups we now contact. If you have interest and feel your group is appropriate for these series, please respond so we can give you fair consideration. These programs are at Redfish Brewhouse on 13th just off the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder:

The "Holiday-time A Cappella" series:

One of 4 nights:
Sundays, December 8 and 15
Wednesdays, December 11 and 18

Format: 2 groups share two 1-hour programs at 7pm and 8:30pm. Work out your own setup and time-sharing arrangements once you have been scheduled. Redfish will provide sound and $100 fees to each group. You may use Redfish mics, your own mics or share those of your partner group. We will attempt to to identify diverse and compatible partners, although you may recommend same. Depending on the "style" developed for each evening, you may perform on the show stage or acoustically in the front dining room. Please state a preference. Obviously, holiday music is the theme, but may be interspersed with novelty and other appropriate selections.

These will be "Redfish Family Nights" that concentrate on a cappella music, all-age audiences (Redfish will carefully card attendees) and the holiday season. So far, two groups have been scheduled, one for each of the Sundays, but the "partners" and other dates are still tentatively open.

The "Bolder A Cappella" series:

We are in the first stages of scheduling a Bolder A Cappella Series for the Winter quarter. Working with the following dates, some preference will be given to first-time participants, but outstanding repeats will also be welcome. The proposed schedule is Tuesdays, January 14 and 28, February 11 and 25, and March 11 and 25. These are also "Redfish Family Nights" that concentrate on a cappella music and all-age audiences (Redfish will carefully card attendees).

Standard fees are $200 with sound, $150 with Redfish sound. Fifty minute shows at 7:30 and 9pm. Please indicate your possible interest.

In fact, come by Redfish on the remaining two evenings in the fall series: November 12 and 19, to hear two great Contemporary A Cappella groups: the relatively new guys' sextet, FACE! and the long-standing Boulder favorite, Cool Shooz. You'll see how warm and generous Boulder audiences can be. No cover, no minimum, good food, good music.

Hello folks,

I understand the a cappella group featured in the website below is applying to sing at Bolder A Cappella. Perhaps we should hold an audition first?

(You'll need Flash installed to hear them and you may want to turn up your volume to capture their melifluous tiones. You should click each one in turn to identify their vocal parts. The one on the left even does vocal percussion.)

(This Swedish site was sent to me by Hanno Mueller, CASA Ambassador in Germany. Isn't it a flip?)

Those of you who enjoy the musical antics of "DaVincis Notebook" (those wild and crazy guys!) may wish to make note of the following:
DVN & DREW CAREY, TAKE II
We've just received the official word from the network:  The episode of "The Drew Carey Show" featuring DVN's song "The Gates" will air on ABC on Friday, November 8th at 9 p.m. EST (check local listings).  Once again, the song will be heard at the very beginning of the episode, so make sure you tune in early.  Apparently, there will be two new episodes airing that night: ours (entitled "Family Affair") will be first and then the other episode will feature the Goo Goo Dolls.  Please do not confuse us with the Goo Goo Dolls (though that mistake is often made).
