It was just brought to my attention that the posting about Curious Gage’s December schedule had a small typo in it.

It was suppose to read:

“$2 OFF when you bring a canned good.”

Not

”$1 if you bring a canned food”

Sorry for the confusion.

3 STORY LIMIT CHRISTMAS CONCERT
with the
BOULDER CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

This Friday, December 16, 3 Story Limit has a special guest appearance with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra in a program of seasonal music conducted by Bahman Saless. The concert takes place in the 1st Baptist Church, 1237 Pine Street  in Boulder (a block north of the Boulderado Hotel) starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available online  at http://www.boulderchamberorchestra.org and at the door. Free parking is available in the church parking lot just off Broadway.

The first half of the program is orchestral, featuring Arcangelo Corelli's "Christmas Concerto". The second half is a new composition by
Bahman Saless, "Holiday Suite for Strings and 8 Voices," in which 3 Story Limit will perform with the orchestra. Afterwards, 3SL will do a short set of "real" a cappella tunes.

The BCO is a top notch orchestra, in its second season,  dedicated to making good music accessible to the community and 3 Story Limit is proud to be performing with them. Please join us for what promises to be an entertaining evening!

Hello Lump,

I'll bet there's someone out there who could give you a hand, so how about spelling out a little better what you have in mind?

For example:
Where in Colorado?
Approx number of voices?
Preferred style? (vocal jazz, rock, soul, gospel, blues, doo-wop, etc.)
Go for the gold or avocational?
Mixed, male or female?

You can explore your needs with the whole message board or you can go to www.cvjs.org and look under groups and ask questions of some who seem like they're what you're looking for. You can also go to the forums at www.casa.org and look for expert help there.

Good luck.

But I thought some of you might enjoy a different approach to the Christmas/Hanukkah season.

I'll keep this short so you can turn it off without going through all six verses. But please enjoy the season in whatever way you can.

        Leroy The Reindeer

Well, you've all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose
But I'll tell you a Christmas tale
That never has been told
You may think you've heard it all
But you ain't heard nothing yet
About that crazy Christmas
That the North Pole can't forget

Well, Rudolph was under the weather
He had to call in sick
So he got on the horn to his cousin Leroy

Who lived out in the sticks
He said "Santa's really countin' on me
And I hate to pass the buck"
Leroy said "Hey, I'm on my way"
And he jumped in his pickup truck

When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer snickered and laughed
They'd never seen a deer in overalls

And a John Deere tractor hat
But Santa stepped in and said "Just hold on
Cause we've all got a job to do
And like it or not, Leroy's in charge
And he's gonna be leadin' you"

Chorus
And it was Leroy, the Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Deliverin' toys to all the good ole boys

And girls along the way
He's just a down home, party-animal
Two-stepping across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with a rebel yell

And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed their tune
He had'em scootin' a hoof on every single roof
By the light of the neon moon
Santa wrapped his bag with a dixie-flag
He was havin' the time of his life
And you could hear him call
"Merry Christmas ya'll

And I wish ya'll a good night!"

Chorus
And it was Leroy, the Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Deliverin' toys to all the good ole boys

And girls along the way
He's just a down home, party-animal
Two-stepping across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with a rebel yell

And made history that night!

He mixed jingle bells with a rebel yell

And made history that night!

Attention a cappellists,

Sorry to bother you so  close to the holidays, but our newsletter dealine come sshortly after the first of the year, so we need your items to share with fans, freinds and groups.

Any news that tells of successes or interests, or speaks to what's happening in our state, or what you've come across elsewhere in the field of vocal jazz and contemporary a cappella would be most welcome. We don't always have a lot of room, so it won't take you long to create a few notes about an experience you've enjoyed, a problem you're concerned about or an opportunity that may interest your compatriots.

While many of you receive such news partly from your participation in this message board, don't forget there are more than twice as many who do not, yet wait every 3 months for the Songster to be delivered with updates, ideas and happenings.

Please send your short articles of interest by email to info@... and we'll include as many of them as possible in the next issue of the Colorado Songster for all to enjoy.

Just send them along right now while you're thinking about it. But not later than Tuesday, January 2, to make the next issue. The Winter issue will reach subscribers about the end of the month.

Thanks for your help in getting the word spread around.

A wonderful concert is scheduled for Macky Auditorium on Saturday, January 28 that a cappella fans will not want to miss.

The 9-voice widely diverse men's ensemble, CANTUS, is appearing as part of the CU Artist Series at 7:30pm that evening and you won't want to miss it. Our organization has made arrangements for a limited quantity of Front of House Orch 1 seats at a discount. You would pay only $30 each.

Even better, plan to also attend the limited guest Afterglow afterwards, likely to be held at nearby Dolan's Restaurant on Arapahoe, for only $5 when you purchase a Cantus ticket from CVJS. This is always a friendly and musically interesting event, with more a cappella music, late evening buffet and a cash bar. You will love meeting the singers and the Colorado groups who will be on hand to celebrate what will truly be an a cappella evening to remember. If you recall CVJS's Bobby McFerrin Afterglow last winter, you'll know what we mean by the convivial connections that such a gathering produces.

For those of you who already have your Macky tickets, but would like to attend the Afterglow, you can simply sign up for that at $8 each.

Don't miss this opportunity!

Simply reply to this note by mail or email with your ticket request, by including name, phone, quantity and Afterglow plans and we will respond with instructions on how to reserve your tickets and a gift card to verify the arrangements. Contact us at <info@...> or at PO Box 18535, Boulder 80308.

A great Christmas gift! Make your arrangements now. Our supply of seating and party space is limited to the first 40 respondents and many are already on our list.

Check out this unique singing group, Cantus (think Chanticleer or the King's Singers), at www.cantusonline.org. You can learn about their Minnesota roots and St. Olaf connections, check their repertoire and enjoy clips from their many CDs. Consider purchasing a CD as a family gift and putting it under the tree with concert tickets and Afterglow badges inside.*

Click on the link below to see where Harmony Sweeps tickets have just gone on sale on TicketWeb. The big news is that school groups of 25 or more, thanks to our sponsor, can purchase tickets for the March 18 event at only $10 each, only through arrangements with CVJS. More info coming later, but check out the sales page.

This year's Harmony Sweeps benefits from a larger theater, which enables us to offer students a better deal. Start getting your groups together to purchase 25 or more tickets (why not fill the school bus?). When the group seats are gone -- they're gone!

CANTUS PRESENTS VOCAL MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD

The program, entitled “Landmarks,” surveys works for male singers from ancient times through the major movements in Western music, including do-wop and close harmony arrangements that have become a signature sound of male voicing. This program will give audiences the rare chance to hear two millennia of world culture.

Gaining recognition as one of America’s finest professional male vocal ensembles, Cantus enjoys a vigorous schedule of national tours, subscription concerts in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, several innovative residencies and outreach programs, and recording. The “Washington Post” called the singers’ sound “beaming and elastic” and referred to their music-making as “spontaneous grace.”

I didn't realize the awards closed this Sunday, so I'm sending along the website with encouragement for you to vote for your choices there over this weekend. I don't want to be in the position of advocating a particular group, but any of our Colorado groups could be in contention, so you should try to "support the home teams!" Since we have 700 potential votes among us here, we could definitely swing the outcome or influence it greatly. Take a look at the categories and express yourselves right away!

Votes can be cast by filling out the online form.  You must sign in to vote, so go find your CASA login info or sign up for a free membership to CASA now!  CASA is a very cool organization dedicated to the vocal music world.  Voting is open until January 8th, 2006, so please VOTE NOW!
Meanwhile, you may want to consider joining the push for now famous, always excellent, ever community/education oriented, m-pact, who have solid Colorado roots and spend more time in our state than any other national vocal band. They deserve your consideration also.

Join the a cappella team at CASA. Look it up now.

Hello singers and a cappella lovers,

As previously reported, the Colorado Vocal Jazz Society arranged with the CU Artist Series to provide a special evening for a cappella music lovers on Saturday, January 28 at Macky Auditorium

CANTUS, the exciting 10 year old offshoot of the renowned music program at St Olaf College in Northfield, MN, is making its debut performance here and we believe you will be impressed with their skill and entertainment value.

Their program, entitled “Landmarks,” surveys works for male singers from ancient times through the major movements in Western music, including popular modern and close harmony arrangements that have lately become a signature sound of male ensemble performance.

We are sending you this reminder, in case you hadn't had a chance to respond. We still have about a dozen concert tickets remaining and our deadline for turning those back is next Monday, January 23. We reserved a number of excellent seats in Orchestra 1 for you, our singer friends and their guests. They are available as long as our supply lasts at $30 each, 20% lower than face value. The 7:30pm concert itself is only part of your options. As your schedule permits, CVJS will provide you with admittance to a Friday afternoon master class, a pre-concert orientation and an afterglow at Boulder's Millennium Hotel following the concert (the afterglow admission is only $5 additional).

Guests at the Afterglow will enjoy chatting with the artists, getting their autographs and providing a personal taste of Boulder for our Minnesota guests. There will be light snacks and a cash bar in our private space. There will also be short musical entertainment provided by the New Wizard Oil Combination, a 33 year Colorado singing 'institution' who want to welcome our guest artists in style. We will present the singers with a certificate recognizing their 10 years of accomplishment and documenting their first performance in Colorado. We would love to see you there and share this special evening with you. To make that possible, simply reply to this email with your ticket request, including name, phone, quantity and Afterglow interest and we will respond with instructions on how to reserve your tickets for Will Call delivery.

Check out this unique singing group, Cantus (think Chanticleer or the King's Singers), at www.cantusonline.org. You can learn about their Minnesota roots and St. Olaf connections, check their repertoire and enjoy clips from their many CDs at http://www.cantusonline.org/Personnel/History.html.

Please leave a message with any questions you have at our tollfree 888-WIZ-CVJS (949-2857).

FACE BENEFIT CONCERT
Also, if you haven't heard or seen it on our website ( http://www.faceonline.biz ), Face is hosting a benefit concert and auction to help raise funds for Mindy Kelly's breast cancer treatments. Mindy is the wife of our bass, Forest, and a dear friend of the band's. She has been battling breast cancer for over 2 1/2 years - many of you have friends and family members with first hand knowledge of such ordeals and know how difficult the times and costs can be.

Please come support Mindy, buy a ticket, or donate in some other way to help her and her family through this tough time. There will be entertainment throughout the event, food and drink, a live auction, silent auction, and BACHELOR AUCTION (featuring, among others, all of the single guys in Face!), and of course you will hear Face at its best.

Place: The Foundry, 1109 Walnut Street, Boulder
Tickets: $10 at any Face show, or through Boulder Theatre:

Do any of you enjoy Blue Jupiter, the East Coast group who have recently released their "Live in New York" CD?

If so -- or if not -- go to http://www.cdbaby.com/bluejupiter3 and give a listen to some of the tracks. You may want to order it for yourself.

I know our good friend of Colorado A Cappella, Brian Michaels of the "A Cappella Hour" up in Fargo (who I believe is on this message board), must have heard the album by now. Brian, if you're listenin' give us your take on this disc. What I heard was very smooth and easy to listen to.
