Howdy pards!
Well it's been a busy time here around Rancho Not-so-Grande for the last couple
weeks. In addition to the nasty 4 letter word thing (also known as W.O.R.K.) I
got to travel with my pard Charles Williams to gatherings in Alpine, and Van
Horn, both out in far West Texas. I had the pleasure of Emceeing, as well as
performing at both. Then it was Texas Independence week, which included shows in
the Stockyards with Michael Martin murphey and my pards from the Cowtown Opry,
and a great gathering out at Jackson Hole TX near Maypearl with Mike Blakely,
Fletcher Jowers, Brian Burns, Tommy Alverson, Brett Watts, and many others.
Whew! I are pooped.
Speaking of The Van Horn Gathering, the ramrod of that shindig has now joined
this string. Welcome our newest member, Bob Kinford. Now, for those of you who
are performers, and don't mind a bit of travel, Bob is already hunting up talent
for next years gathering. If you'd like to find out more, visit his website
http://www.texascrossroadscowboypoetry.org/
and took a look see. And as a reminder, for those of you who haven't stopped by
lately, The gathering was carried live on the web by Ralph's Back Porch
http://www.ralphsbackporch.com/
and there are clips up there still to be viewed. My radio show Cowboy
Campmeeting also runs there on Mon, Wed, and Fri as well (check your local
stations for time and temprature) And they do have a call in radio show that
runs from 7-9 PM Central time and can be called into, or accessed by web-chat on
the net from anywhere in the world. Just go to their website, and you can click
right through to the show, as well as listening to past shows whenever you like.
We had over 600 people tune in to the Van Horn gathering, from 13 U.S. states,
and 14 foreign countries...pretty good for a first year huh!
My website is back up, you can access it at
http://www.Buckthebigman.com/
and you can always find my schedule there, as well as music clips, soon to be
video as well, reviews of the Press, and a lot more.
For those of you in N. Texas, who are fans of Bluegrass as well as Cowboy
Music, I'll be performing at the Lone Star Cowboy Church's 3'rd annual benifit
for the American Cancer Society on Mar 28, 2009 at 6:30 in Red Oak, Tx along
with my buddies Digger Davis & Tombstone (one of the best Bluegrass groups
you'll ever find) and entry is by donation. That means you can come in for
whatever you wish to toss in the pot, and enjoy two hours of great music, and
fun as well as help with a very good cause.
One other website I'll throw in here, which is the site for Jackson Hole, Tx
which is not far from Waxahachie and Maypearl.
http://www.myspace.com/JacksonHoleTexas/
you'll enjoy it, and it lets you keep up to date on what's happening, and
there's something going on every month from Mar to November.
Now, I'm trying to keep y'all filled in on what's going on in the world of
Western Music in my litle corner of the world, but I'd sure like to see more
shows being posted, concerts reviewed, and in general this group to be used more
to inform other folks where they can go to see and hear great Cowboy Music and
Poetry. So if you know of a show coming up (yes, it's fine if it's your own
show...nothing wrong with getting the word out, just keep it Cowboy) drop us a
line and post it here. I started this group 9 years ago to promote Cowboy Music,
and Western Entertainment, and thanks to y'all it's now the oldest and largest
Western Music group on the net, with over 200 active members.
I just wanted to say thanks, and encourage those who might be a bit shy about
promoting their shows to put that information out there, and help spread The
Cowboy Way!
'til later,
Buck "The Big Man"
