Howdy pards!
I know it's been some time since I've posted, I've been busy out picking and
grinning, as well as with ye olde day job.
Welcome to our newest members! I hope you'll post often, and my thanks to you
for keeping this the largest and most active Western Music group on yahoo!
Some updates especially for those in N. Texas. Jackson Hole Tx (near Mayperal)
continues to host Western themed events and shows on at least a monthly basis.
In addition their promoter Mark Miller now is also booking and promoting
Country/ Western/ Gospel music shows at the nearby texas theatre in Waxahachie.
(I've performed there several times, it's a great venue) For more information on
these ecvents, go to

Waxahachie shows, e-mail Mark directly at

I had a great time recently performing up in Kansas, doing the Cedar Depot days
festival, a concert at the Buckskin Inn in nearby Smith Center. Shows in
Wichita, and an on air visit with Johnny Western, legendary DJ, Actor, singer
and songwriter (The themes for Johnny Yuma, and Have Gun - Will Travel amongst
others.)
Cedar is lacated in far NW Kansas, near the Nebraska border. Also in Smith
county is the homesite of Dr. Brewster Higley. Back in 1872, Dr. Higley came to
Smith County KS from Ohio, and built a small cabin on the shores of Beaver
Creek. The following year, he wrote a poem entitled "My Western Home" which was
first published in the December edition of the local paper, the Smith County
Pioneer. Dr. Higley's friend and neighbor, Dan Kelly changed the words slightly,
and set it to music...the resulting song was "Home on the Range"
Dr. Higley's cabin still stands on it's original site, near Beaver Creek. When
I visited, it was undergoing minor repairs, and routine maintenance on the roof.
The rafters of the cabin are made of unpeeled saplings, and I got to remove a
small piece of bark from one of these. So I now have an actual piece of the
world famous Home on the Range!
Don't forget the big gene Autry Festival in Gene Autry, OK coming up the last
week in Sept.
