That song is still resonating in my inner ears, and I want to know, I
may have already asked, if I may perform that song when I go places,
church, etc?

"Cattle On A Thousand Hills"

Do you have the words on a sheet, or somewhere that I could receive a
copy?

I also want to purchase that CD, if I could. I cannot find my copy.

Buck, I think you are doing great, and "Some Day Soon" we will all see
your name in the musical big leagues: Roy, Gene, Sons, etc.

Howdy pards!
Well the holidays are behind us now, and we've got a brand new fresh
year in which to spread the Cowboy way to all and sundry.
First a big old Western howdy to our newest Saddle pal, Tommy
Tentpeg. Tommy is a GI serving over in Kuwait, keeping an eye
out 'fer the nitwits what might want to mess things up on the home
front. He loves our kind of music, both classic and modern and has a
hard time finding it overseas (As you might imagine, there's not a
big fan-base for Cowboy Music in the middle east.) So if any of y'all
want to send him some Cowboy care packages with some good tunes and
such, you can write him here, and get his mailing address.
Now, for those of you in the N. Texas area...
Some interesting gigs coming up in the next couple of months.
Jan 26-28 the annual Campfire Tales Cowboy Music and Poetry
gathering at the Ft. Worth stock show. We'll be in the John West
arena at the Will Rogers Complex from Noon ;til 6 all 3 days. Guests
include Charles Williams, Dan Roberts, Lanny Jo Burnett, Devon
Dawson, The Texas Trailhands, The Wallace Family, The Terry Family,
Donna Hatton, Paul Harris, Yours truly, and the Phil R. Monick Stock
Show Orchestra and Chorus (Western Swing Jam). For those of you who
can't make it out to Ft. Worth it's scheduled to be carried live over
the net by the Ralph's Back Porch Show.
A specuial treat for Michael Martin Murphy fans! MMM is going to be
in concert with select members of the Cowtown Opry (Ft. Worth's
oldest Western Music Organization) at the Opry's annual Texas
Independence Day gala Monday March 2'nd at Joe T. Garcia's Festival
Gardens near the Historic Ft. Worth Stockyards. Tickets are going
fast! visit Cowtownopry.org for more details.
Also, in celebration of Tx Independence Day (albeit a few days late)
The fine folks out at Jackson Hole tx (near Maypearl) are having a
big shindig on Mar 7. Including such fine performers as Tommy
Alverson, Bronco Billy Cate, Brian Burns, Mike Blakely, and Poets
and storytellers including Charles Williams, Teressa Burleson, and
Your's truly.
Also, for any who are going to the Cowboy gathering in Alpine the
last weekend in Feb, you might want to also take a short drive to the
first annual Gathering in Van Horn. I'll be one of the featured
artists there, and will also be at the open sessions in Alpine.
  Hope to see y'all soon!

                              'til then,
                                         Buck "The Big Man"

Howdy you all

I'm looking for very old (50 y. approx) song, called "Saylor" sung by a
woman. It had not lyrics typical for cowboy or country&western ballades, but
it's melody was as country music style melodies in the 50. years of the XX
century. I can remember the chords for this song are very simple (A, D, E)
but not as simple as for Jambalaya.

Is anybody who knows this song and who has MP 3?

I'm also looking for MP3 of "Ol' Man River" sung by Paul Robson.

Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you

I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Come home to me

Hello, I just joined the group Tuesday and wanted to say Howdy!. Had
no power all day yesterday due to rains from Gustav or would have
wrote yesterday. I have love Cowboy music since I was 5, and that's a
long time ago. I've always played guitar and love most cowboy artists,
especially Gene, and Riders in the Sky.
Have a question - Since suffering a stroke in 2006, find playing the
guitar a bit difficult. I can still play my harmonica and was
wondering if anyone knows if there are some tab books for cowboy
harmonica songs? Thanks Pards, Jim

Howdy Pards!
Well, I'm gearing up for festival season, and wanted to remind folks
that it's time to gas up the old truck, especially with falling gas
prices (finally!) and get ready to head to a Western Music/Film/Cowboy
Poetry FEstival near you. Any Cornhuskers here? I'll be in Hastings NE
Sept 4-6 for the Miles of Memories Fest. Then on Sept 20 I'll be
Emceeing and performing at the musical portion of the 2'nd annual Great
Western Toy show, and Cowboy Film Festival, with Special Guest...James
Drury, aka The Virginian! Sept 24 - 28 I'll be performing, emceeing,
and helping to broadcast the Gene Autry Music and Film festival from
Gene Autry, OK.
Don't forget, the entire festival will be carried LIVE as it happens
over the Internet, on http://www.Ralphsbackporch.com and you don't want
to miss the great live call in shows there every Mon and Fri from 7-9
PM Central time. If you can't make it for the live show, they are
archived, and you can listen to them anytime at the link given.

We've also got two great Lunches going with the Dallas area Gene Autry
Fan Club, which will be held from 11 a - 1 p on Sept 18, and 23. Come
out to Red Lobster at 635 @ Greenville Ave and rub elbows with James
Drury, and Judy Coder.

And for friends and fans in the N.E. stay tuned for details about a
special gig in the Boston area in mid to late Oct. Don't want to drop
names just yet on this one :-)
Remember, if you know of any Western music/Cowboy Poetry gigs in your
area, please post the info here. The more we get the word out, the
better for Cowboy Music as a whole!

                            'til then,
                                      Buck"The Big Man"

Subject: Bill Anderson talks about Don Helms....This is Great....

August 12, 2008

{ 08/12/08 }

Hi Gang:

Sadly, an era in country music that has been dying piece by piece,
legend by legend, over a period of fifty-five years finally came to
its unhappy conclusion yesterday morning here in Nashville.

Don Helms, the great steel guitar player, passed away. He was the
last surviving member of Hank Williams’ original Drifting Cowboys
band.

He was also one of the funniest men and finest human beings it has
ever been my privilege to know.

[More:]

If you were down in the dumps and you needed a good laugh to cheer
you up, you called Don Helms. If you wanted somebody to tell you the
real story of Hank Williams…his songs, his charisma, and his
demons...you called Don Helms. You wanted a great steel player who
never changed his style over the years, but whose style never went
out of style, you called Don Helms.

I’ll never forget a night not long after I came to Nashville when
I was riding home from a tour in the back of the Wilburn Brothers’
long black Cadillac. Don was working for them at that time, both as
a road musician and as a businessman in their publishing and booking
offices. On this particular night, he was also their chauffeur,
climbing under the wheel somewhere in Michigan and pointing the car,
as he had so many times during his career, toward Nashville.

For some reason, I couldn’t fall asleep that night, so I leaned
across the back of the driver’s seat and began asking Don
questions about Hank Williams. I found him more than willing to
talk, to share stories…some funny, some sad…mesmerizing me mile
after long, dark mile.

He told me about endless days and nights on the road before air
conditioned cars and interstate highways….about Hank’s
incredible back pain…about his problems with Audrey…about how he
loved to fish…how much he loved Bocephus…and how he could turn a
phrase and write a song in virtually no time at all. Hank had been
my boyhood hero, and to find myself one-on-one with the man
responsible for so much of his musical sound was almost more than a
wide-eyed kid from Georgia could take.

In later years, when I needed someone to come talk about Hank on my
radio shows, Don was there. When we needed a legend back in January
of this year to play steel guitar on our Country’s Family Reunion
videos, Don was there. For the rest of my life I will remember
Don’s playing “Cold Cold Heart” all by himself in that studio
filled with stars, Vince Gill sitting nearby, tears streaming down
his face. When the song was over, Vince looked at the rest of us
gathered in the room and said, “Guys, THAT’S the reason I came
to Nashville.”

I consider myself so lucky to have known and traveled and existed in
the presence of Don Helms. His music will live forever.

I just wish he could have done the same.

Bill Anderson

Well......... how did you feel after reading the article? Do you
agree with Vince Gill?

No! Oh well, I tried again to express what our country is now
missing, because of corporate country! It's missing the high respect
for elders......... it's missing love........ kindness........
goodness........ the respect of heritage in every sense! Did Vince
Gill show some kind of weakness, when crying for such a reason as
that? Living around country music legends who today are shown no
respect, and whom are ignored by many in country today, To me folks,
Vince is a caring, loving, respectful man, and in my book, these
traits........... of a honorable man standing tall in a crowd of
corporate selfishness, is what draws me to super stars like Vince
Gill!!

Vince Gill and others like him, are the giant superstars of our
country, and supporting them and their music is what I will always
do......... despite corporate's action against stars like Vince Gill
for speaking out against their actions in ignoring the many legends
of country!

I don't care if someone doesn't like me using the old
expression; "He's Black Marked" by corporate for "Bucking-the-
machine" (corporate country), and if Vince Gill and other stars are
not "Black Marked" by corporate country, then why don't you hear
about what these superstars are doing lately? Mass Media is ignoring
their activity that's why! And don't tell me that nobody wants to
hear Vince Gill anymore because his voice is not as good as it
was!!! That's a big lie if someone tells you that! He's never
sounded better than right now!

Bill Anderson himself is a legend of country music gang! How many of
you really know Bill? He's still a live today gang! I must admit I
do not know him well.......... but, I wish I did! I do know this, I
have and played his music for years........ and I will go to my
grave still playing his music, even his latest releases!! Would I
cry if I had the opportunity to be in the company of Vince Gill,
Bill Anderson, George Jones, Merle haggard, Willie Nelson, Little
Jimmy, and so many other legendary stars in one place for any given
time........ you bet I would....... it would be an honor I would
treasure for life!!

Sadly, many in country now would just laugh at such an
event......... they'd look at it as just an old get together by old
stars, and old country music promoters like me, that can't let the
past go! Is that how you feel about this issue gang? After all,
Vince Gill isn't that old yet? He is feeling what I feel about these
old stars of country, the living ones of today, and those who have
died, like Tammy, Johnny, and Conway twitty!

You see gang.......... I'm not the only one in this country music
profession who feels that corporate country has succeeded in taking
the human aspect out of our country. Just look around you, listen to
the NEW country music of these living legends now, today, buy some
of their latest music, and listen to their crys, can you hear the
cry of justice singing out from these old stars?? If you truly want
to be a country person then allow their music to reach your hearts!

The young stars of country can still learn from the old
stars............ and maybe if they can see what Vince Gill, Bill
Anderson and others like us, are trying to convey to all country
people........ then maybe those young stars will have somebody like
Vince Gill cry at memory of them when they die and leave town.

Yours truly gang,

Sincerely,

Jimmy Stix

Hi everybody,

The kids and I just returned from the Cowboy Gathering in Riverton, WY, and
we got some video footage thanks to a couple of volunteer camera operators.
I will be posting segments of it on YouTube as time allows. I posted the
first one of Cora singing "Cowboy's Sweetheart" at the Saturday night show,
and have it up on our webpage as well. Here is the link, though you will
probably have to pause the site-wide player at the bottom of the page so
that you can hear it without interference.

celebrate his birthday. You can listen to it at our German internet radio:

Howdy pards!
Well things are bustin out all over. I'm in the studio right now,
working on the long awaited CD "From the mountains, to the Prairie"
which explores the Irish/Scottish roots of Western Music. The Back
Porch is now a streaming station on live 365, in addition to the live
broadcast carried on Blogtalk, and our numbers are going through the
roof! My show Cowboy Campmeeting is streamed 3 times a week now, M-W-
F. (go to http://www.ralphsba ckporch.com for the links to both the
live show, and the 365 station.) It's accessible from anywhere in the
world, and you can listen to great Cowboy music and poetry, right on
your PC for FREE! The live show runs on Mondays, and Fridays from 7-9
PM Central time. (That's GMT-6 for those outside the US), and the
shows are archived, can be listened to at anytime, AND even
downloaded for use on your I-pods or other MP3 players, or to burn
onto CD's for listening in the car. Folks, this is realy getting
exciting, we now have regular listeners in all 50 states, and 9
foreign countries!
Come on out and listen, come hang out in the chat room, and visit
with pickin pards from all over, and be a part of the fastest growing
phoenomenon in Western Music. Welcome to our new members, wer'e
mighty glad y'all stopped by the camp. Grab a cup of Arbuckles, or a
glass of tea, and lets swap howdy's 'fer a bit. Remember this is a
group for performers as well as fans, so when you have a concert, or
a Western Event that will feature Cowboy Music and Poetry, by all
means post it here. Somebody will be close enough to want to go, as
we have members from all over :-)

'til later,
Buck

Beautiful Biscuit-Bakin' Rosie (Larry W. Jones)
.
When the last longhorn is branded
And cattle loaded at the rail
A cowboy can feel so stranded
Riding alone back down the trail
But I just think of sweet Rosie
Heaven sent her from up above
She's the waitress with the posey
At the cafe named Turtle Dove
.
Beautiful biscuit-bakin' Rosie
She's got my heart lassoed and tied
All the cowboys sure get nosy
And try to take her from my side
Rosie's love is firm and stable
She don't put up with cowboy trash
And when Rosie waits my table
She serves up double cowboy hash
.
- instrumental -
.
Sometimes my brain gets all dozy
Instead of cows, I'm herdin' sheep
Cause my main thoughts are of Rosie
Whether I'm wranglin' or asleep
My Rosie came from El Paso
And my whole future she seduced
Cause when Rosie, my heart lassoed
She tied a knot that won't come loose
.

No Trail Boss On The Trails Anymore (Larry W. Jones 07/07/2008) (song#5521)
.
The old cowboy dreams of his bygone days
When he was trail boss driving longhorn strays
Eyesight's grown dim, almost the end of him
The sun is setting on the last of cowboy ways
.
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
They've paved the cattle trails from shore to shore
Along the super slabs the scenery is drab
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
.
Bison no longer range, the west has lost its thrill
The silence is strange, no song of the whippoorwill
The old trail boss is at a loss, things now look grave
He wants to be buried on top of old Boot Hill
.
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
They've paved the cattle trails from shore to shore
Along the super slabs the scenery is drab
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
.
- instrumental -
.
He remembers his first ride 'cross the Great Divide
Now it hurts every time he tries to take a stride
He's feeling mighty frail, his bones are sore
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
.
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore
They've paved the cattle trails from shore to shore
Along the super slabs the scenery is drab
There's no trail boss on the trails anymore

No Place Like Texas (Larry W. Jones)

There's no place like Texas for cowboy ways
Makes no difference on what trail you may roam
When you long for the songs where longhorns graze
For cowboy ways, you can't beat San Antone

To Austin, Dalhart, El Paso, Gulf of Mexico's shore
All cowboys are returning to Texas before they die

Let Me Die Down In Texas (Larry W. Jones 07/06/2008) (song#5516)
.
I'm all alone in this city, alone as I can be
It's a pity the open spaces are so far from me
It's been years since I saw prairies and west Texas moonlight
And the stars that shine afar up in the heavens so bright
.
This cowboy's old and weary, last roundup is nearly done
How I long for west Texas where the longhorn cattle run
.
Oh de lay ee ay di oh lay ee, Oh de lay ee ay di oh lay ee
.
Take me back to where cowboys around campfires sing their songs
Let me die down in Texas where this old cowboy belongs
.
Oh de lay ee ay di oh lay ee, Oh de lay ee ay di oh lay ee

A Cowboy Night Herd Song
.
What's the rush, little mav'ricks, the sun has gone down
The trail has been long and we've covered lots of ground
Feed along, little mav'ricks, graze on the grass slow
Sleep mav'ricks, for on the trail tomorrow we'll go
.
Quit bawling, little mav'ricks, whatever you do
I've ridden drag, in dust I've gagged, night-herded too
Tried to make you dogies slow down til I've turned blue
My pony is weary and I'm tired to the bone
But if you mav'ricks stampede, I know I'll be gone
Round up little mav'ricks, now round up to my song
.
Oh my, little mav'ricks, the moon is big and round
Now, come on, little mav'ricks, come and settle down
My eyes are quite heavy, my saddle seat is sore
So, lay down, little mav'ricks, the prairie's your floor
Round up little mav'ricks, don't range around no more
.
Well now, little mav'ricks, I see you've all laid down
The whole herd is sleeping, no coyotes around
Snore now, little mav'ricks, til tomorrow comes 'round
Then we'll all hit the trail with a wild longhorn sound
Sleep til dawn, little mav'ricks, sleep along

By way of introducing myself, "Western Belle" here! I have been playing
the greatest music here on KSJD Dryland Community Radio for the past 6
years. "CowTrails" streams every Sunday from Noon -2 PM (MST). The most
common thing I hear from first time listeners... "Where Do You Find This
Music".? I am very happy to receive new music and poems. My
listeners respond, and I listen to them for my playlists. I have had
calls from all over the world about the music, it is the best of the
best. I do put some house concerts together and other venues, all the
while keeping it Cowboy/Western. I look forward to hearing from you all.
I am posting my mailing address for you. Please send your music and
poems to me for consideration of airplay. Thank you for your gift and
talents.

Howdy pards!
Well things are bustin out all over. I'm in the studio right now,
working on the long awaited CD "From the mountains, to the Prairie"
which explores the Irish/Scottish roots of Western Music. The Back
Porch is now a streaming station on live 365, in addition to the live
broadcast carried on Blogtalk, and our numbers are going through the
roof! My show Cowboy Campmeeting is streamed 3 times a week now, M-W-
F. (go to http://www.ralphsbackporch.com for the links to both the
live show, and the 365 station.) It's accessible from anywhere in the
world, and you can listen to great Cowboy music and poetry, right on
your PC for FREE!

Howdy Ryszard "Bobcat" Jakubowski,

Thank you for setting up the Polish Country Music site. I am Larry W. Jones
from Kingwood, Texas, just north of Houston.
I write old-style Country/Cowboy/Western song lyrics. They have been
published in five volumes of 250 songs each.
Volume six will be published soon. They are lyrics only, since I do not
write music or perform the singing.

Description:
Welcome to Real Country Lyrics. If you want to get back to Real Country
Music, you have to start with Real Country Lyrics.
The kind that was sung by Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Acuff, Patsy Cline, Hank
Williams Sr,
Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and a host of other pioneers of Country,
Cowboy and Western music.
This collection brings back the kind of songs heard in the middle of the
1900's.
Note to musicians - All lyrics are copyrighted and titles are registered
through BMI and ready for your music and recording.

Well, I'm happy to meet you Larry. I am sure this is good way to show your
poems here in Poland. We have no good poets which can write lyrics for good
songs, so maybe someone of Polish composers will be inspired to write good
music? Who knows.
