Anyone heard the Yardies with their new guitarist, Ben King? Having
seen them twice in Florida with Jerr Donohue, I must say I am
disappointed Jerry's gone. :-(

I can't remember if it was early 2005 or late 2004 but the last time
The Yardbirds played here in San Francisco I was lucky enough to be
directly in front of Chris Dreja, sure was nice to watch the guy work.

Anyway, I don't know the origin of the recording but I got my hands on
a 2 cd set of the show. It has those slight breaks between songs like
someone (not me) didn't use disc-at-once when they burned a copy but
other than that it's complete.

Not being a active trader guy I don't know how to rate it, but as a
Yardbirds fan I'd say the performance is excellent and the recording
quality is really good.....

Perhaps this recording is already out there somewhere else, but if
not, well, maybe one of you has something I'd like.

Anyway, I sure look forward to seeing them again, any news on a US
west coast tour?

Thanks, Russ:
I hope the Yardbirds get back to Florida, but, if not,
Jerry will always be "my" Yardbirds guitarist.
Regards
Gerry

Well, I think because it was given to me with no limits on copys I'd
like to somehow get the whole show to all us Yardbirds fans. I need
a bit of time though, I will be getting DSL within 2 weeks and thats
gonna help me alot, plus I think I wanna convert them to flac (or
Shorten, but I think flac might be better???) files.

At that point maybe someone here will donate some space that I could
upload them to, and will agree to leave them availible for some
reasonable length of time for any Yardbirds fan who digs deep enough
online to find it.

What I don't want is any bootleggers selling it.

Who is the guitarist on the Yardbirds tracks from London at the
yardbirdsus.com website? Is that the new guy? It's funny reading
someone here say that they see Jerry Donahue as "Yardbirds
guitarist".... I mean, the guy is mindblowingly incredibly good, but
I just see him as a Hellecaster!

The Live At Slims SF recording I have is (obviously) Gypy Mayo and
he was just fine I thought, he played some licks I didn't expect,
like I couldn't predict what note was coming next and I liked that
bit of his playing. Jerry Donahue??? Man, I got a guitar lesson
from Will Ray (also a Hellecaster guitarist) and Donahue is even
more of a country styled stringbendin maniac, jeese, I can't imagine
what they sounded like with him.

Whoever is on that London recording sounds more like Beck to me, I
sure hope they get out to CA for a live show, say at someplace like
the Fillmore.

---Yes you're dead right about Jerry Donahue a brilliant guitarist
and I loved what he did with Sandy Denny -I saw him play some great
slide with the Yardies-however he was a little too staid for them-
Gypie had a lot more bite and on a good night he could nail it all
with some to spare!! i hope this new kid is a flash little bastard
and worthy of his predecessors.

I have the show from this past summer on video CD at the RamsHead live in
Baltimore. I provided copies to a couple of people who offered trades and
didn't get so much as a bloody thank you nor anything else in return. So, I'm
out the time and postage. So, beware of those offering to trade. Get the goods
up front.

Wouldn't we all? By the way, Robert Plant's "Mighty

compared it to "Physical Graffiti"

I think it would be cool just to see Jimmy Page alone with the current

Subject: help with flac for 2003 Yardbirds show
bobclic

Actually the flac bit is going ok, I converted the Yardbirds
recordings to flac just fine, but now I have 15-16 songs. Is it ok to
use zip or rar to make them one big file without it screwing up the
wave files that you all ultimatly make from them? Or would it be
better to upload the songs seperatly and let you dl them song by song?

I'll have dsl early next week, and I'll prolly use yousendit.com
(although when I tried to download the video posted there it errored
out every time) to make the show availible.

Any other useful suggestions are welcomed.

I haven't found any corruption problems, if everything is working
correctly. Zipping shorten or flac files doesn't seem to make them any
smaller, but has the advantage of downloading the entire show from
one link. Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to hearing our boys
again. I am a life long fan and saw them for the first time in
Indianapolis and Sullivan, Missouri on that tour and Baltimore
recently. All were great shows, but Sullivan was exceptional.

Ben King (the new kid) was great. He fit right in. (Plus the young
girls seem ro like him!) I'll have some new photos up on
http://www.yardbirds.us in a couple of weeks. Got some nice shots of
orginal Yardies guitarist Top Topham too.

Excellent, truely excellent, Got a bit of digital video film, will share with
people soon. Its not wonderful, but its not bad either. Was great to see the
Yardy-birdies again. Was also really good to put a face to the famous name of
Russ Garrett!

Thanks for the news, Russ (and thanks for the
excellent website!)

I finally obtained a copy of the 1996 two-fer CD "Box
of Frogs"/"Strangeland"....Having heard the Yardbirds
do "Back Where I Started From" (from the first album)
I was curious
..What a treasure trove! In addition to Chris Dreja,
Jim McCarty, Paul Samwell Smith and John Fiddler,
guest appearances from Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ray
Majors, Roger Chapman (a great version of "Heart Full
of Soul"), Steve Hackett, Rory Gallagher, Max
Middleton... A must for any Yardbirds fan. In my case,
better late than never!

Producer Kevin Shirley (IRON MAIDEN, LED ZEPPELIN,
AEROSMITH) has issued the latest entry in his Caveman
diary (www.cavemanproductions.com):

“Rumors abound about a new release of the Led Zeppelin
movie The Song Remains The Same, with improved audio
and video, but honestly, it's all rumors to me too.

Thanks for checking in, now go back to your lives!!

For you hard core fans, here's a picture of one of the
tape boxes from the Madison Square Garden concerts the
film was culled from.

I will certainly be in London next year, but instead
with the mighty Maiden again - and I'm so psyched! I
have such a gut feel about this one...

Be well, KevTheCave.”

The place has several promo screens that display ads and the upcoming
schedule. During the show, they displayed three different views of the
stage (front & each side). There was no movement, so the cameras are
fixed. I thought it might be for the Yardbird DVD that has been
mentioned, but Jim didn't seem to know anything about it. I guess it
must be a Ramshead Live thing, maybe for the owner's archives. None of
the employees would admit to it being recorded, but it obviously was.
I assume licensing for public release might be very complicated
although there is that older Italian show that is streamed online. I
understand Gene's opinion on bad traders, but it sure would be nice to
get this into circulation. I can never get any trades going because I
have nothing to offer in return. I'm not exactly sure how one gets
started.
