Subject: 'Conversations With Jimmy Page' Book Sold At Auction
rocknrollcola
Send Email Send Email

According to Publisher's Marketplace, "Light & Shade: Conversations With Jimmy
Page", by Guitar World editor-in-chief Brad Tolinski, went to Crown at auction
in a "significant deal."

Using the Publisher's Marketplace "deal key," a "significant deal" is a book
deal that garners $251,000 - $499,000.

Following are quotes from Jimmy Page as told to Brad Tolinski in various
interviews over the years.

"I really don't like showing people how I play things; it's a little
embarrassing because it always looks so simple to me." - Jimmy Page, as told to
Brad Tolinski, Greg Di Benedetto and Andy Aledort in the December 1993 edition
of Guitar World.

"I can't speak for others, but for me drugs were an integral part of the whole
thing, right from the beginning, right to the end. And part of the condition of
drug taking is that you start thinking you're invincible. I'll tell you
something that is absolutely crazy. I remember one night climbing out of a
nine-story window in New York and sitting on one of those air conditioning
units, looking over the city. I was just out on my own and I thought that it
might be an interesting thing to do. It was totally reckless behavior. I mean,
it's great that I'm still here to have a laugh about it, but it was totally
irresponsible. I could have died and left a lot of people I loved. I've seen so
many casualties." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski in the July 2003
edition of Guitar World.

"We were never a band that did 96 takes of the same thing. I had heard of groups
that were into that kind of excess around that time. They'd work on the same
track for three or four days and then work on it some more, but that's clearly
not the way to record an album. If the track isn't happening and it creates some
sort of psychological barrier, even after an hour or two, then you should stop
and do something else. Go out: go to the pub, or a restaurant or something. Or
play another song." - Jimmy Page, as told to Brad Tolinski and Greg Di Benedetto
in the January 2002 edition of Guitar World.

"[We] did record a lot of shows, but many of the board tapes were stolen from me
many years ago. They were sort of 'relieved' from my house in the early Eighties
when I wasn't there. All of that stuff, along with the recordings of our
rehearsals, were stolen and surfaced as bootlegs, which is a drag." - Jimmy
Page, as told to Brad Tolinski in the July 2003 edition of Guitar World.

there was a inquest into this. Keith's son Danny found him a little boy at the
time, he called his aunt Jane for help and she rang ambulance. Not sure if he
was tuning it or not. Keith was trying to remove humm from his amp caused by
oddly the grounding so he removed it and thus setting up this tragedy. he wound
up standing on a grate metal which apparently was hidden or he didn't know what
it was and was electrocuted. I spoke to Jay Relf about this his other younger
son. Long time Yardbirds archivist Richard Mackay wrote a book and it contains
details but it escapes exactly what it said. But all this horrable nonsense
that he climbed into a bathtub makes me sick. He did try to get the instrument
out of his hands but it was to late and Keith was not a well man such a shame.

According to RollingStone.com, LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page joined DONOVAN
on stage last night (Friday, June 3) Royal Albert Hall in London, England to
perform his classic "hired gun" solo from the British folk-rock legend's 1965
hit "Sunshine Superman". Page also sat in for another DONOVAN favorite, "Mellow
Yellow".

Check out video footage of the performance below.

"In 1965, Jimmy had just left THE YARDBIRDS and hadn't started on ZEPPELIN yet,"
said Donovan. "So we hired him to do a session at Abbey Road."

"Though he's known for his power guitar, Jimmy is a real folk aficionado," added
Donovan. Page agreed. "A lot of my songs were written on the acoustic guitar.
And so much of the first album of LED ZEPPELIN was acoustic, too."

new songs have been added to the set list including the psychedelic groundbreaker 'Glimpses' from the Little Games album with Jimmy Page.

Also They have been playing Five Long Years as well. Here is very nice performance of an old classic

Very pleased that this one is back in the set list. I love this arrangement and the way Ben adds a little echo to his solo as well as Andys vocals and Dave holding it down.

Today marks a new milestone in the extraordinary career of Jimmy Page with the
launch of his inaugural official web site, JimmyPage.com. Chronicling his rich
history in music and unlocking the vaults for the first time ever, JimmyPage.com
brings you previously unseen and unheard multimedia material from Jimmy's
personal archives. Conceptualized and curated by Jimmy Page himself, one of the
site's biggest highlights is "On This Day," a daily diary featuring events
spanning the entirety of his immense career, from the 1960s to the present day.

"It's an interesting concept because every day you are going to have an event
from my life and it will go all the way back to me being a teenager," said
Jimmy. "It looks random, but it isn't. I love the idea that there will be an
all-new page every day and nobody will be able to guess what's coming next."

The multimedia "On This Day" feast includes video footage, images and audio
clips as well as unseen photos and previously unreleased tracks, demos and home
recordings. Each entry is accompanied by a personal anecdote written by Jimmy
Page and will be available for just 24 hours. There will be no archiving; if you
miss it, it's gone!

To access the site's full features and delve deeper beyond the homepage, you
will need to register and become a member of JimmyPage.com. Membership is free
and it only takes a few moments to sign up. Your account details will be kept
safely and confidentially, and only your username will be publicly visible to
those logged in to the web site.

rocknrollcola
Send Email Send Email

Ahead of the launch last Thursday (July 14) of legendary LED ZEPPELIN guitarist
Jimmy Page's official web site, JimmyPage.com, rock writer and journalist Pete
Makowski interviewed Jimmy about the site, the story behind its inception and
his vision for the "On This Day" section of the site.

Q: When did you start thinking about putting together a web site?

Page: I've had the domain name for a number of years. I've just been sitting on
it and a number of people had made approaches about setting something up and it
got to a point that it felt it was the right time to put one together.

Q: Were you aware of the other Jimmy Page web sites and did that add to the
importance of doing your own?

Page: Well, not really, because they were clearly fan web sites and that's
really great. When you've got fans and especially ones committed to doing web
sites, it's OK. The only problem I have is when inaccuracies pop up and gain a
life of their own. Over the years, with the Internet and forums, urban musical
myths start to change what actually happened at the time. And then it comes into
the world of Twitter and blogging, of which I'm going to be doing neither.
Another reason for doing the web site is if you talked to people generally who
aren't switched on to what I've done they probably think, "Oh yeah, he was the
guitarist in LED ZEPPELIN, wasn't he? And they did the O2." And if they said
anything else about me it would probably relate to that BBC clip where I'm about
thirteen. That's all they really know about me and I've had a really long
career, seriously active for over 50 years. Having recently done the book for
Genesis, which was a
chronological history, it gave me an opportunity to revisit all of the various
projects I've ever been involved with and I thought I could do something similar
on the web site.

Q: How did you go about setting it up?

Page: Well, when I came to the arrival of the decision to do it, I asked other
people what they found frustrating with web sites and they came up with two main
things; navigation and the fact that they don't change every day. Well, I had
the navigation sorted out but it was the criticism that the sites don't change
that concerned me.

Q: Is that how the idea for "On This Day" came about?

Page: I had the idea for a long time and I proposed to use it on the LED
ZEPPELIN web site, because I thought it would be an ideal way to portray LED
ZEPPELIN's history. Curiously enough, there are now sites popping up doing this
everywhere. So I knew I had a sound idea. It's an interesting concept because
every day you are going to have an event from my life and it will go all the way
back to me being a teenager, still at school and playing in London bands while I
lived in Epsom — which at the time seemed miles away. So it starts from there
and the next day it could be when I played at the Olympics, because my career
spans several decades. It looks random, but it isn't. I love the idea that there
will be a "splash" page every day and nobody will be able to guess what's coming
next.

Q: Any final words on JimmyPage.com?

Page: I think this is the ideal vehicle to present my past, present and future
work.
