*This is the LAST EVER Project newsletter*
------------------------------------------
BUT WAIT !!! There's GOOD NEWS!
Hi Everyone! I hope that you all are having a wonderful summer!
I'm really sad yet extremely happy to write this newsletter to you! This
newsletter will mark the end of The Project yet the beginning of a very
exciting new concert organization >>> THE EMPIRE !!!
But first, I'd like to reflect back on the days of The Project.
The Project began in February 1999. The last official Project show took
place on October 2000. In its history, The Project held 16 concerts and 1
Music festival (FUSION).
The Project began with the vision of unity and developing the Christian
underground scene here in Ontario. I also know that two people became
Christians through their friends and The Project had a part in this. This is
really amazing! And I'm so glad and praise God that The Project was used
this way. I look back and and I see that this vision was definitely
accomplished (I'm getting tingles as I'm typing this). So many bands and
people became such good friends through The Project. The Project inspired
bands to form and new promoters to get involved.
Last fall at the POD concert in Toronto I was so blessed! I saw a whole
bunch of Project bands all gathered together talking and hugging each other
like one big family!
I think about all the great friends I met through The Project. To The
Project Crew - Thanks so much for all your support! Thanks to the crew in
both Kitchener and Hamilton! Thanks especially to Jeremiah and Emily Pacey
for all their prayers! You guys helped me get through some tough times!
A special thanks to Ryan Erb and Emmanuel Bible College for being sooo
supportive in letting us use the EBC Chapel for so many great concerts!
A couple weeks ago I went looking through old concert pictures from
Project shows, and many of those pictures brought back great memories!
Lets look back on some of the great concerts we had at The Project.
The first concert was February 99 - One Star Shining (my old band), Pin
Wheel, and 58 Skivies. Skivies were so crazy! I think Nathan was so hyped I
saw him jump 3 feet in the air a bunch of times, Pin Wheel was the only band
that played The Project with a female singer, and my band One Star Shining
rocked out the end. This concert really tired me out, cause I performed and
I was running around as the promoter making sure the show went smoothly.
May 99 - dumb as Sheep, Thousand Foot Krutch and Lyman. This was a great
concert! Lyman got the crowd dancing, Krutch got the crowd bouncing and dumb
as sheep played with mastery and emotion.
Sept 99 - Boy Blunder, Yesterday's Fat Kid, BBBFB3.
This concert totally surprised me! We had 230 people show up - It was huge!
And so much fun. Boy Blunder is a band I wish was still around today! They
were my favorite Punk band that ever played The Project. YFK, was great
rockin fun - and I'll never forget how hyper Wes was! BBBFB3 ! Now these
guys were one of 2 bands I ever witnessed to win the whole crowd over in 30
seconds! These guys were amazing I couldn't believe my eyes!
Oct 99 - Thousand Foot Krutch, Natural Saint, 58 Skivies
This was an absolutely fantastic Rock show period!
Nov 99 - BBBFB3, Lyman, Fun With Phat Kids.
This concert was a great accomplishment!
This was the first ever Christian Rudeboy Show ever to take place in
Ontario! The crowd was only 140 people, but it was so much fun! Lots of
people skankin, and some cool clothes! FWPK's showed up really late! I
thought they weren't going to show. But ya know what? Those guys never ever
showed up to a concert on time!
Jan 2000 - 58 Skivies, The Blok Parents, Phuff
This was the Project's first ever Punk Rawk Show! And about 220 people
showed up! This concert I was sooo excited to do! And it was a really great
time!
June 2000 (Hamilton) - Thousand Foot Krutch, dumb as sheep, 58 Skivies.
This was probably the best sounding Project concert ever! It was like
listening to a CD! Thanks to Tim Good who mixed the sound! Tim mixed the
sound for so many concerts, and I'm deeply appreciative for such a talented
guy and a great friend!
August 2000 - FUSION Festival. It was a 2 day outdoor festival with 19 bands
from across the province and 2 stages! Thanks to Lakeside Church in guelph
for letting us use their grounds! This festival was a great time! It was a
big accomplishment. My favorite show had to be seeing "Something to Believe"
they were a great Hardcore band! And seeing the singer do back flips while
performing, was really cool! Boy Blunder played their last ever concert
here, and it was very memorable and sad to see them break up. So many other
memories of this festival including, burning bails of hay, and a really cold
night - I nearly froze my bum off!
October 2000 (Brantford) Triple Threat CD Release Party
Natural Saint, BBBFB3, The DBG's
All three bands dropped new cd's this night which made it an interesting
type of concert. The DBG's van broke down, and they almost didn't make it.
180 people came to this show, and it ended up being our last Project show
ever. The lighting and the sound kinda sucked, and I felt really bad about
that. Things just didn't go as I had hoped. I hope those of you who were
there, weren't too upset.
After the October 2000 concert I went home thinking, wow we've really
accomplished alot with The Project, but my heart sank cause I didn't know
what to do next. It was also becoming clear that I wasn't going to make a
career out of working in the local Independent Christian scene. This was the
beginning of God taking 1 year to speak into my life about what I needed to
do next.
In January 2001, God really starting making a lot of things clear for me,
and the major thing being that there was a major segregation between this
Christian scene and the rest of the world and that this needed to stop!
For the rest of 2001, I did a lot of thinking and listening to what God was
telling me, and I decided that I would discontinue The Project and start a
new concert organization. And I also realized that in order to make a career
out of promoting concerts, I would have to step up to the next level working
with touring bands and working not only with Christian bands, but other as
well.
So from June 2001 till July 2002, I spent a whole year dedicated to studying
the whole live concert scene here in Ontario. I learned a lot of things!
I am now prepared to make a new debut in the concert scene with a new
organization.
This new organization is called >>> THE EMPIRE.
THE EMPIRE, will be a new force to be reckoned with!
Starting the 2nd week of September I will be going into this business
full-time ! I just can't express how excited I am to being doing this!
I will be booking up a bunch of concerts for Late Fall and Winter and
Spring.
