Evergrey released their 2nd CD Solitude Dominance Tragedy in 1999 to
little fanfare. This CD contains 9 songs with a total duration of 43-
minutes. The musicians are Tom Englund/guitars-lead vocals, Dan
Bronell/guitars, Daniel Nojd/bass-backing vocals and Patrick
Carlsson/drums. This lineup would implode shortly after with only
Tom remaining to record the bands dramatic follow-up and first
American release In Search of Truth. Solitude Dominance Tragedy was
recorded and produced by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond/Death) at his
Log Angered studio in Sweden.
I think almost everyone has had the good fortune of hearing Evergrey
by now as they've gotten more popular with each successive release,
now having just released album #6. They also are now finishing up a
big tour with the equally excellent Nevermore, though their first
American show was at ProgPower in 2001.
So, pretty much what we have here is nothing surprising for those of
you who have heard recent Evergrey CD's, so you won't be
disappointed. Those emotional clean vocals of Tom's are present as
is the not too heavy rhythm section. You will hear plenty of
tasteful and melodic lead guitar techniques and some movie samples.
There are mid-paced songs and slow songs full of melancholy,
keyboards, strings and piano. Yes, the lyrics are also what you
expect with religion, darkness, human weakness, aliens and vampires
being prime topics. If you like Evergrey then this is a must own as
it's a very good CD.
Solitude Dominance Tragedy has been reissued, but the only addition
is a music video, so buy whichever you find cheaper.
Now, the question for me is should I get the newest Evergrey or their
very first CD next? I'd also like to get their DVD as Justin says
it's the best he's ever seen.
