Opeth/Paradise Lost/Tapping the Vein/Brave at Jaxx concert review!   Message List

I got to Jaxx around 7:15 and it was pretty packed. I caught the
last 3 songs by Brave and they sounded good as always, but there was
some problem with the sound system. Next up was Tapping the Vein, so
I moved past the bar down to the floor area in front of the stage.
They came on around 8 and played 40 minutes or so of Kittie meets
Pale Forest meets Nickleback style music. In other words they sucked
and some of the audience let them know apparently. The girl (singer)
made numerous excuses for her band (I've been sick, you can't just
come and watch Opeth, play some Slayer (yeah I met Slayer and did
shots with them she said), etc.). Either way, her voice and the open
cord riffs left little to the imagination or to enjoy. Finally at
about 9:05 Paradise Lost came on and opened with Just Say Words off
their One Second CD. They would play a solid 1 hour set with about 5
songs coming off their latest Symbol of Life. They also played
another song off One Second, one from Icon/Draconian Time/Shades of
God. The Shades of God song was the classic "As I Die" and got the
biggest response from the crowd who certainly enjoyed PL more then
TTV. Come 10:35 the mighty Opeth walked out and started a great 1
1/2 hour barrage. They opened with the title track from their latest
(Deliverance), then played Advent(all 20 wonderful minutes) from the
Morningrise CD. They then played a few from Blackwater Park, one
from My Arms Your Hearse and maybe another from Deliverance. They
ended their set with a great tune off the Still Life CD. For an
encore they played the fan favorite Demon of the Fall off MAYH. This
was the 3rd time I saw Opeth at Jaxx and they lived up to
expectations before a sell out crowd, see ya on the Damnation tour
Opethians!!
