hey mate
theres a java environment called processing which can do what you were
thinking about. Theres a media artist called brendan dawes who took
each frame out of the movie every x amount of time and placed the next
to each other at like 16x16 pixel size, then he used the sound of what
was happening at that moment to increase the size of the pixels so you
got a larger image as audio dB was louder, quite a nice simple idea
which looked very pritty.
