Hey Everyone-

whole bunch of new shows this week.

I wanted to make a special mention about the Warehouse Next Door on 7th street
in DC. the family that owns the building and the venues that make up the
Warehouse are facing a real dilemma. The city has raised their property taxes
astronomically, making the continuation of the venue in its current local very
tough. The owners are debating what to do, including selling the building.
anyway, point being that you should make an extra effort to go see shows and go
see some the other great artistic offerings. they have been very good to the
artistic community here in DC. show 'em some love.

so, i haven't had time to rant on jazz, so I have decided to just give out
spurts of info.

DC was quite busy in the hey day of jazz and the U street corridor, home of the
Black Cat, was the hotbed. Everyone who was anyone played there. Duke Ellington
is from DC. Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, went down to see jazz in
DC all the time, and it inspired him to lead a life in music.
