Hey all-
a quick email to you Montgomery County residents.
as many of you may have heard, Ike Leggett (MC executive) recently agreed to
give Live Nation, a HUGE corporation, a space and a ton of county cash for a new
music venue. No open bidding, kinda under that table. This was after the owners
of the Birchmere thought they had a deal with the county. Suddenly, their deal
disappears and the new one pops with Live Nation.
IMP and the 9:30 Club had hoped for an open bidding process, with hopes that
they (a local company) might have a shot at the new location. The county said
there would be no such process, and that the deal with Live Nation was a forgone
conclusion. On top of this, IMP/9:30 offered to take millions less from the
county than the Live Nation Deal called for. Still no dice from the county.
sounds like some palms were greased to me. This in the face of a major budget
shortfall in the county.
As a county resident, i would at least like to see a fair, open bidding process
take place. with a preference to a local company, over a huge corporation.
IMP/9:30 has also been very "All Ages" friendly.
so if you are so inclined, sign the petition, and forward it to anyone else you
know.

Thanks for a few minutes of your time. look for your regularly scheduled list
tonight.
