I've already brought out my Christmas music, and there
are two CDs by a Beatles tribute band (I've heard them
live) called the Fab Four, who are so uncannily like
the real Beatles, it's downright spooky sometimes!
Their Christmas albums showcase Yule tunes done to the
arrangments of Beatles tunes, and again, it's so well
done, you'd think you were listening to the real
thing--well, except for one: drummer Rolo Sandoval
truly sounds like a bad imitation of Ringo on "Let It
Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!," done to "Honey
Don't"--but it's the only clinker in the first CD, 'A
Fab Four Christmas." Highlights for me are "Rudolph,
the Red-Nosed Reindeer," done to "I Saw Her Standing
There"; "Feliz Navidad" ("And I Love Her"); and "Away
In a Manger" ("You've Got to Hide Your Love Away").
The second CD, 'Have Yourself a FAB-ulous Christmas,"
has a photo of Santa crossing Abbey Road--barefoot, of
course--sack slung over his back (he should have had a
walrus in the sack, that would have been a nice
touch). On this one, my favourites are: "Santa Claus
Is Coming to Town" ("When I'm 64"); "Silent Night"
("Norwegian Wood"); "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
("Within You, Without You"); and "What Child Is This"
(While My Guitar Gently Weeps").
Both are available separately or as a set in a red
slipcase. I got the set which, as I recall, was
$15.99 from Amazon. Well worth the money!
