Hi all:
Audience recording. Pretty good view and great sound. I bought this
several years ago. Never watched it really and just burned it onto
DVD-R. I paid $25 for it. So if somebody wants it for what I paid for
it let me know. I have several others that I will be posting soon too.
Thanks.

I ve been trying to listen to that track. when i do, i'll tell.
But now I just wanted to recommend another song. 'Kitty' from
'Boom Boom Kid'. I thought that some cure fans would like this strange
artist.
Please listen to it and ask me if you want to listen some more material from
the same artist, because it's hard to find and he have been in a band called
Fun People, but their underground even here (Argentina), so they must be
completeley unknown in the commercial circuit out there.
It's not depresive at all (so the ones that like the terribly sad side of
the cure maybe won't like it) but it's kind of punkish pop with some
electronic stuff, two guitars and a fabuluos voice that dares to try some
smith's like miaows and doesn't do it badly. Maybe it has some reminiscence
to wish but no so cure and more punk.
I Recommend this tracks: 'kitty', 'la vida está bien si no te rindes',
'tomar helado', 'julio', 'insulina'. The band have just released the first
cd with this name after four cds as fun people.
please listen to it and tell me your comments
Pd: you have to have kazaa to find any song.

Interpol... okay, thanks for the correction. The only thing I've heard from them
is that one jam, and I would say it kicks ass, but it does sound a lot like Joy
Division... Personal Opinion, and I do love me the Joy Division...

When you say PDA do you mean perhaps the band
Interpol, that has a song named PDA? They get
compaired to Joy Division but they're not derivative,
they are excellent. Their CD was one of the best new
things in a while. If anyone knows any other new
bands that have that sort of sound, please tell me.

I personally don't think that indie and/or rock guitar is dead, I just don't
think anyone has done anything good with it... most bands now a days are just
carbon copies of other carbon copies, it creates a frustrating circular
reference that ends up in one freaking long song played on the radio with
commercial breaks in between...
Then there is the Hives and The Strokes and this band PDA, which are bands that
I like, but I think it's because they are reminiscent of early Cure and/or early
Joy Division...
I got problems... sorry...

Michelle,
You are ever so right. Pushing buttons on stage does not make for a nice
concert. And yet, rock is over. Still, we don't expect the band to do the
mainstream thing (although disco still has its moments).
Hmm, dilemma. But well, why not have the best of two worlds? A few
suggestions:
A full guitar rock album with a bonus cd containing mixed electronic
versions, preferrably by Paul Oakenfold, but others are welcome too (maybe
too much to ask for after the acoustic bonus with GH...)
A combined album containing, say, five classic rock tracks on the one hand,
and some new electronic songs on the other. Hasn't been done yet, at least
not by the Cure. Hard to listen the disc in full, I expect.
A thematic album about the end of independent rock music, based on Iain
Banks' novel Espedair Street, containing the very best classic Cure songs,
as a coda to the Trilogy.
A crossover between the classic guitar based rock song and the electronic
pop song. Has been done (by The Cure as well), but why not make things
better? Eleven or twelve of those on a brand new album, never heard of...
The first ambient album by the Cure. The classic, spheric guitar ballads
brought back to their essence in electronic stillness. Highly valued among
the hip and beautiful in the lounge, which is where the new album wants to
be (in vinyl on the dj's turntable, I fear). During Concerts, these songs
will be played from the computer, with the best video art.
Anyone? Cheers,
Jazz

well, some kind o kid a or something. not bad idea, but I prefer the
completely acoustic depured sound of the b side latest acoustic album...
its so perfect, completely cure. I don't think cure's thing is that kind
of experimentation (that's what I would do in their place), because robert
never was with the 'New' experimental music that keeps following rules as
the commercial one. He just did what the beers and the mood swing told
him... I think that more "inteligent experimentation" could be done, but
sometimes can lose the heartfelt thing. Anyway, a great idea, and I insist
in suggesting you to hear Levinhurst if you didn't yet

Didn't Robert plan to record a couple of songs just like that... electronically,
I think the only surviving track from that was 'Harold and Joe'. Anyway, during
the Japanese Whispers recording session it was just Robert and Lol, this seems
to be the first time Robert relied heavily on electronic instruments, more of a
need than anything else I suppose... don't really know ware I'm going with this,
thought it might be relevant. Anyway I think that The Cure's best quality and
real genius is the fact that they can do a 'The Walk' or 'Cut' and they always
just sound like... The Cure... NO matter how much people say that they are
changing in order to fit in the main stream or how much people say the opposite,
they always just sound like... well, The Cure.

Indie rock does seem to have had its day. But I don't
agree that just because electronic music is popular
that this is what the band should do. They have always
been a bit different- that's what has given them such
a large fanbase at different points in their career.
As has been mentioned they did a remix album when no
one else did remix albums. I hope that they can
continue to be outside the mainstream, and just make
great music regardless of what is popular at the time.
Disco was popular in the seventies, but how do we look
upon it now?
Of course there's nothing wrong with the band
incorporating electronic stuff into their work as they
have always done. However, I can't imagine the Cure
producing an album with not one guitar on it, as well
as electronically generated melodies/beats.

I know the band aren't entirely electronic
technophobes and have done some great electronic
stuff. Only problem with this is that they are a
band: what is everyone going to do when they play
live, while one person pushes a button, and Robert
sings?
I have seen many performances like this usually
involving one or two musicians. With a drummer, two
guitarists, and a bass player I think Cure live shows
would certainly be less interesting if reduced to
button pushing.
However, I can't imagine the Cure
producing an album with not one guitar on it, as well
as electronically generated melodies/beats.

i'd have to disagree in that look dows not matter, is this pop or what? and
with robert's hair and make up, look has to matter... the only thng there is
is superficial, but that's not a worthy discussion. He looks very well with
his weight anyway, just like the good uncle of goth that is always giving
candies as it was halloween.
completely agreeing with electro stuff but not in the case of cure. I think
moby is great and radiohead (even tooo overrated) is not that bad. Some
bjork and bowie atmospheres are incredible and one of the best electronic
acts i've been hearing lately is levinhurst (gotta listen to it, it would be
great if lol could contribute with some electronic music to a new cure
album, creating textures of acoustic-electronic sound for tracks of one or
two minute recreating The Final Sounds style.).
Electronic is the new experimentation and there's a lot of great artists
into it. But, personally, i don't think that more than this was a good
track. It's in a great album and I feel like many songs of artists I know
less or I don't even like are superior to the cure one, and it's sad to
admitt. But I prefer Invisible sun, 'One more murder', 'Deuce', 'Hunter' or
the mike oldfield thing over more than this. They are all great tracks and
more than this lacks life and is less original, to my point of view. Maybe I
was to demanding beacause it was cure material but I don't think that kind
of electropop is waht robert does best.

I am nicely surprised at the amount of recent Descent email. I feel
like saying something, but don't eally know how to express it... Well
I'll try anyway. I agree with Emilio in his selection of great songs---
but as others said, it's difficult for any of us not to agree, isn't
it?! Something like KMx3 just can't be done again. That's the beauty
of it. Personally, I feel better not thinking what I want them to do.
They often manage to do the unexpected. Maybe they will again. And,
in Robert's words, don't take them so seriously. The fact that for
most of us they are sometimes a reason for living shouldn't interfere.

The preference for The Cure as a guitar rock band or an alt.electronic pop
act seems to be an interesting point of difference between Cure fans. Of
couse, most of us like them both ways, but still, there seems to be a slight
inclination toward the one or the other.
I would argue that, form an artistic and commercial point of view, the days
of indie guitar rock are over. There has been relatively little creativity
after the grunge hype of the early nineties. Of course, there still is some
occasional succes - The Strokes, The Hives, Libertines etc.- but as a whole
the rock scene seems repetitive.
Electronic Pop, however, is the place to be. Dj's seem to have taken over
the dancefloor (and turnover) from traditional bands. The best new alt.pop
bands use computermusic naturally - e.g. eels, Flaming Lips, Radiohead.
Several traditional alt.pop acts have electronised their music to make the
cross to the modern dancefloor: Sonic Youth, Peter Gabriel, REM, David
Bowie, to name a few.
It would be wise, both artistically and commercially, for the Cure to tap in
to this electronic trend. They were among the early adapters - akin to New
Order and Depeche Mode - of computer music, and they were good at it. Love
Cats, for instance, can still compete with many electropopsongs.
Ever since the Japanese Whispers, they have kept in tune with the world of
electronic pop and dance music: some traxx on Head on the Door, Kiss me Kiss
me Kiss me, and, of course, the underrated MixedUp album. It is safe to say
that Electro Pop is very much in the musical core of the Cure.
Personally, I would like to see More Than This as a perfect example of what
the band is capable of in this field, like 'Purple Haze' (the much
criticised electro version on the Hendrix tribute Stone Free), or 'World In
My Eyes', the Depeche Mode cover...

Hello folks
This is my first post to the list.
I just want to tell that I saw the Cure for the first time last november
in Hamburg, Color Line Arena. The show was incredible, absolutely. Just
wish to know if someone has a copy of this concert... I would be really
glad!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
David.

My two cents about the string quartet tribute:
I listened to it only one time completely. The beginnings of most of the
songs are nice because one is curious to hear what they made out of it. But
the longer each song lasts the more it starts to bore me. I'm not very used
to listen to classic music but this string quartet arrangements remind me of
Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg concertos. I think you have to like
classic music in general, and baroque music especially, if you really will
like this tribute.
And about the discussion concerning the upcoming albums:
I would really love to get some "heavy" stuff again, like The Kiss or
Shakedog. These songs, played live, are so powerful, it's always kind of a
revelation to me.
But, of course, I would love to get some of the famous melancholy, too, like
Same Deep Water, or Faith.
And I don't want to miss great pop songs.
I even would agree to new eletronics...
It seems as if I have to admit that I will love anything they will release!
:)
(what a strange sentence - I hope this might be English and you understand
it...)
Take Cure
Greg

Yes, it's quite a term of endearment among goths to
call him "Fat Bob." This term even applies to Wish era
Robert- at this time I don't think Robert is fat at
all. I personally think he just looks "huggable."
I don't think he needs to lose weight, either. He's a
guy in his forties who likes to drink; of course,
he'll have a bit of a belly. Almost everyone past
their twenties who doesn't spend all day in the gym is
a little bit soft around the middle.

i'd love some 70's punkish pop but that's completely impossible (though it
would kick some green day's and aknf's asses, nothing against them). I
completely agree with the electronic stuff (anyway, if it was something like
moby's Everything is wrong, it would be the perfect second chapter of
faith). Cure's electronic pop is what i also like less of them, and i like
everything (i love the top).
and a question: Did anybody listen to the tribute by the string quartet? I
listened to the first 50 seconds of Boys dont cry and Lovecats and I really
liked. The begining of boys don't cry is incredible, so melancholic. The
ones who could listen to it, please tell me what do you think about that.
