This may have been a typo for "good cowboys." Good cowboys with
parachutes are smokejumpers (see the book "Young Men and Fire").
In the performing world they can be seen in action when a country
and western band's pyrotechnics ignite the amphitheater, and the

the stage, and then jumps after it.
