I have seen the Korg PA3 in use at hotel
restaurant/bars in Italy and Lisbon. They are
good at covering songs smoothly for live
shows without a band. Looked at the Korg,
Tyros and Roland M70-3 but in the end
decided against them. They have hundreds
of preset styles (arrangements) but for now
I want to explore my own, as rough and
unpolished as they are.

Cheers!

After looking at this I was wondering what group this thing (now superseded by
the Tyros 3) is marketed toward. I have never heard of this not have seen one
in person (although Guitar Center apparently sells them). Right now I'm pretty
soured on Yamaha. Those fuckers have decided to play protectionist with the
Steinberg brand. I bought a Motif Rack XS that I adore. Their advertising says
that it will work as a 'virtual VSTi" in your DAW. Unfortunately, that is only
true if your DAW is Cubase. So, I sent mine back!!! The Korg M3 will work in
any VST app (as a real virtual VSTi if you have the FW card), as will the Roland
Fantom VS in the SONAR VS-700R audio interface/synth. Protectionism sucks no
matter at what level. Personally, I won't even consider purchasing another
Yamaha product after this fiasco.

John, the second purpose of this letter was to finally remember to let
you and Bill know that I *have* listened to the tracks and that all your
working and then waiting wasn't entirely in vain. :) The edits to most
of the tracks are very small, but Indigo will require a bit more work
and thought. It might not be chucked totally, but I couldn't let it slip
by without commenting on the amount of extra work it will require.

As for Tim's offer: yes please! A more elaborate bassline (or two or
three) would be good. I am also looking for a drummer or drummers,
another guitarist to play counterpoint to Bill, and some keyboard parts
that can be played in counterpoint to the heavy main theme. I won't have
much time to think about this before we get there, but I'll try.

The first Shalmaneser album is up there. I have no idea why the second one
isn't--I put them on CDBaby at the same time. But you can download them

I'm digging the late 60's groovy yet raw rock vibe. I like the moody and
domineering bassline that actually DRIVES the song instead of just covering the
low end of the audio spectrum. Nice strong motif for guitar to play off of.

Since it seems all the original performers will be present at DS to recreate the
tune, do you guys remember what you played the first time? I know who supplied
the guitar line(kudos to Bill!). But who played the bass parts, and who played
the decorative percussion? And who played the synth parts(were they bassline
arps?)? If you guys have some grasp of your own parts, that would certainly make
the recreation process a lot more streamlined and mapped out.

Plus, I kinda like the song in it's somewhat barebones form. I'm not hearing a
lot of extra basslines and guitar counterparts. Seems like it would start to
sound cluttered really fast. But I'm up for giving it a whirl and seeing what
develops.

Yes that was ELE, and the actual Fiske version where the synch definitely wasn't
working.  The fidelity of that clip is horrible, though.  I can post an MP3 of
the frankenversion that I assembled for the CD if I can find it.  Mike is right
though, Bill's guitar is the only thing that actually changes during the whole
thing.  Except for the arpeggio patterns that didn't work at the Fiske, I wasn't
varying things too much, and the percussion and bass were pretty stagnant
throughout the piece, as well.

The bass was mike with loops in Live, I believe, likewise with the percussion.
I think that I had my old Korg in there synched with Mike (this will need to be
worked out on the M3 since I no longer have that keyboard).  The obvious live
synth lead-like parts are Mike (and maybe Bill), and the pads and articulations
and comping in the background are me as soft synths (Massive and Blue, I
think).  Originally, the Korg was producing some bell like arpeggios, but we
never really got the synch to behave correctly and so I think I was forced to
try to play the pattern manually.

The actual title is "That Merciless Sky"

Aside from that, I love it. Is there a slightly larger image that we can
use behind the tray card?

I will put liner notes together after the shows with Tony (On
stillstream Fri. Night at 10 EDT/7 PDT)

It is an Earth Mantra download, but will also be put out on Kunaki for
grins. I can take the art and fit it to the appropriate templates.

can you give me a link to the kunaki templates. I'll correct the title
up and add a tray card. I need to put different skies somewhere but on
the cover it looked kinda redundant having two titles contain skies.

There aren't templates like mixonic. Just sizes, and they are as follows in
pixels

Disk artwork - 1394w x 1394h

Front Cover - 1423w x 1411h

Insert - 1423w x 1411h

Tray - 1772w x 1385h (includes 2 spines at 74
pixels each)

Hope that helps

Allen

4 of my TouchXtone albums are there. None of my Sensitive Chaos albums made it.

Seems like these days the best thing to do is to register the domain
name before you start anything public...
