Ok gang, the temps have reached the point where I say it's summer! That can mean
only one thing...

Time to kick this puppy into high gear and get things really rolling!

A few of you responded to the room preference email I sent out, but not all of
you. Please do so ASAP if you have NOT already done so.

It's also time to start talking about payments. I will send that info out as
soon as I get a PO box, or talk to Doug or Mike about using theirs.

So... Email me you rooms, and let's start talking music!

Cheers!

Apologies for delays in reporting the project's progress. After waiting
patiently for over 6 months, I finally received some crucial Team Metlay video
footage! This will play an extremely important role in the overall DS 'story',
as it shows the actual seeds of what would later become Different Skies... at
least conceptually.

Now, for the bad news :) I'm simply going to have to get more footage at this
year's event. After going through all the footage I took from DS10, I'm still
missing some necessary story ingredients. Due to hasty planning and focusing on
too few things last year, I neglected to capture any usable 'Day-in-the-life'
footage, showing what a typical day would be like for a DS participant. In fact,
what I'd like to do is have an entire DVD chapter devoted solely to this
perspective, going through the entire week including show night prep. It would
of course be edited and compressed for time, taking up only a few minutes in
totality. But I'd have fade in/out titles at the bottom of the screen to the
effect of "Day 1" or similar, covering all six days chronologically.

Plus, I want to supplement the previous 'interviews' with additional long-form
discussions. Perhaps as a group, or individually. I'll be setting up proper
lighting and backdrops this time, which will distinguish the new footage from
the old footage rather vividly :)

As far as donors are concerned, there will be no extra cost incurred for this
effort. In my opinion, it is simply a creative necessity for the project which
will only increase the resulting film's level of quality.

The upside is that I've learned so much in the relatively few months since the
last DS, with respect to composition, lighting, framing, exposure control,
effective use of filters, etc. And I would love to use this knowledge for the
betterment of the project ;)

What this means is that I will probably need to be 'in your face' with the
camera a bit more than last time. Please indulge me on this, if you would be so
kind. This is mostly for the random candid footage. From your perspective, I may
just seem like a pesky paparazzi dude. Rest assured, though... I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised how flattering the resulting footage will be :)

I've also learned a good amount of valuable information regarding color
correction, which will certainly pay off in spades for the documentary. Here's a
link to a video I put together a few weeks ago, featuring some recent attempts
at color correction:

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=212431518785097

Anyway, that's pretty much where things stand for now. I'm looking forward to
capturing more footage this year on all levels, knowing it be much better than
last year ;)

Is this because you're not a registered member or something? If so, I can
understand the basis for your complaint. Perhaps this would a good opportunity
to examine the matter further. I mean, is there a significant number of DS
alumni who DON'T have a FB account, for whom previewing videos would be
obsolete? If so, I apologize for the oversight, and will post future vids
elsewhere.

Regretfully, I did register once upon a time. I stopped using Facebook
because it was all about putting *everything* on Facebook. It all just
gets diluted and lost after the first 15 seconds when everyone moves on
to the next big thing. Call me an old dog, but I'm the kind of guy who
likes to find info about Home Depot on the Home Depot web site and Apple
stuff on the Apple site, and I certainly want to find Different Skies
stuff on the Different Skies web site. I'm not trying to get anyone to
stop using Facebook, but if that's the only place things are available,
then I choose to miss out.

Regards,
Doug

Actually, it was merely an example of color correction, using footage from an
entirely different film production I'm helping out on. As such, it's not even in
the realm of 'official DS material', so expecting to find it at the DS site is a
little bit of a stretch. And for the record, I've tweaked my FB settings to
allow unfettered public viewing of material I post there, so no one actually has
to be a networked friend to view it. Plus, I was courteous enough to provide a
direct link to the video itself, bypassing all extraneous FB navigation
headaches. If anyone is not ABLE to view it(as opposed to being unwilling to),
please feel free to bring it to my attention and I'll try to make alternate
accommodations. Thanks.

I wasn't implying that this particular thing should be on the DS site.
I was using Home Depot, Apple and DS as examples. Do you have a
personal site that is devoted to your video work or is it all only
available on Facebook?

OK, don't everybody jump in here!

Alan, I want to bunk in Hell, that is room "L" at the bottom of the hill. Unless
you can put a gorgeous young woman in there, I'd prefer to have the room to
myself so I can hear...ooops. Sorry, a good friend snoring and talking to
himself in the next room.

Music. Ahh, music! I have so many pieces that could be considered ambient space
music that I'll just show up with some. However, if you people want scores, I
have Sibelius, and can bring printed scores. My bet is that you can't play them
anyway, but a few ounces of absinthe and my guess is that anyone can play
anything, and it will sound good!

BTW, my recent work is in audio-MIDI feedback. You can find links on
www.sonuus.com where I am now An Endorsed Artist. Is that kewl, or what? Aww,
it's just "what". So give me a cheese and tomato bagel at Arco. OK, let me BUY
one!

;-)

Cheers!

The 4th song ("L'Ascension") from my new Sensitive Chaos 'Seeker After Patterns'
CD is featured on this week's Hearts of Space radio program, which aired last
night on Atlanta's WABE 90.1FM, but also airs on 200+ public radio stations at
different times around the country (check your local public radio station for
showtimes).

The program also features Erik Wollo (Norway), Steve Roach (Arizona), Rudy
Adrian (New Zealand), Diatonis (California), and fellow Atlanta-area composer
Jonn Serrie.

Hearts of Space INTRO : In the brief, happy interlude between the tempests of
spring and the hurricanes of late summer, we pass through an ideal moment in the
cycle of the seasons. It comes in gentle word-pairs: Clear and Sunny, Warm and
Breezy, Fair and Mild, Blue skies and White clouds. Even the pollen seems to
abate for a bit, and we're granted a period of naturally fuelled optimism in our
storm-tossed world. It's a time for classic electronic music for flying and
floating in translucent blue atmospheres. On this transmission of Hearts of
Space, an hour of spacemusic for early summer...on a program called BLUE SKY

While we are all enjoying our Summer heat, and getting psyched for DS11, I
thought I'd repost the video of the DS10 concert.

If you watch it all the way through you'll see the infamous lights-in-the-sky

This is a compilation of JK's, Tony's, and my footage.

While we are all enjoying our Summer heat, and getting psyched for DS11, I
thought I'd repost the video of the DS10 concert.

If you watch it all the way through you'll see the infamous lights-in-the-sky
finale!

This is a compilation of JK's, Tony's, and my footage.

While we are all enjoying our Summer heat, and getting psyched for DS11, I
thought I'd repost the video of the DS10 concert.

If you watch it all the way through you'll see the infamous lights-in-the-sky
finale!

This is a compilation of JK's, Tony's, and my footage.
