Remember we had some... Issues. PT would just stop for no reason. Usually all I
had to do was restart it. I am up loading 3 of the protools shorter pt sessions
and when I can split the other 3 into smaller then 1gb chunks I will upload the
rest. For those of you without pt they are just .L and .R wav files so you
should be able to import them into just about anything. I will send the URLs
ASAP. Of the 3 that are uploaded 2 are run throughs of all of the songs and 1
is marked Wednesday but I think it is really a hunk of Thursday as I was ironing
out Protools.

Like I said I will split the rest tomorroro and upload these for all to have.

Tim, I agree with you, the primary person who either wrote or conceived the
piece should be the one comping a complete performance. Unless someone wants to
surrender the responsibility to someone else.

Hey they are done....

Here are the URLs
https://files.me.com/davedatt/kaztjc
https://files.me.com/davedatt/x4v9fk
https://files.me.com/davedatt/sp07cr

These expire after 30 days.

Mac users just connect to my public folder and download at will. Davedatt is the
user name.

Enjoy?

Good afternoon, DS'ers and the DS 2011 Ensemble especially:

This year's show, as it would have been heard if streamed, minus
Jeff Stein's remarks (not recorded) and some long gaps of silence
(the musicians were preparing for the next song) is now available
FOR STREAMING ONLY starting with the first track:

http://soundcloud.com/shamaniaq-slate/a-quiet-recognition-dave

The entire show will play automatically from track to track.

All tracks are separated. You can go straight to your track(s) if you
choose. Currently the show is on pages 1 and 2.

Although the tracks are public, they cannot be downloaded or
embedded as widgets.

If you want to download your track, let me know and I will make the
track private and downloadable for a day so you can get it. If you want
your track(s) from other run-throughs or rehearsals, let me know and I
will separate it/them out for you and upload the file(s) as private,
downloadable tracks. My account has hours of time, so space is not an
issue, but please let me know when you have them so I can delete them.

All tracks are pristine, recorded as performed (24 bits, 44.1 KHz,
WAV), with no comping. Levels are a bit low, but there is no clipping.

The tracks are titled as seen in the program, with the addition of Tim
Walters, who is credited for the bell introduction.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Slate

I don't like the idea of Slate or Dave's tracks being "public". I believe
in the last two years we volleyed emails back and forth using the Year's
member list.

I rather expected this, and was ready for the objection.

All tracks are now private.

I will add the emails of the ensemble members so they can
listen to them and download them.

For the rest of you, I regret that you cannot hear the show.
It was an excellent one. Maybe one day it will be released,
but since DS'09 and DS'10 are also still under wraps, don't
hold your breath.

Cheers!

Regardless of how you feel about 2009 and 2010, you should give the new
guy (Allen) a chance to do it his way, which may be more to your liking,
and you shouldn't unilaterally release other people's music, because they
may have a different idea of how to do it than you do. Some of them, in
particular, had pieces that were good in rehearsal but train-wrecks at the
show. Would you want someone to hear your music that way for the first
time if it were easily avoidable?

My own view is that DS doesn't produce release-quality recordings, which
is fine, because that's not what it's about. I don't mind documentation
recordings of the event being available, but I want it to be the best of
the week, not whatever happened to occur at showtime.

My own view exactly. It's not the point. It's just a snapshot of what
happened at the end of the week. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's not so
good, really not so good. If you release it then you take what you get warts
and all.

They were private insomuch that only the folks on this group knew they were on

I cleaned out my DS11 AND DS10 papers in my music binder today. I think
the DS10 folder has like 6 sheets of paper. The DS11 easily has 20 or
more. I found it amusing. Both events were meritable and warmly admired
for their own special elements.

Good morning, DS'ers!

Those of you who are friends of mine on Facebook may have watched my
dawning realization that I can post whole albums as single MP3s on
Soundcloud. This is due in part to the ability to make high-quality
recordings with the new PCM digital recorders and SD cards whose
capacities are 8 Mb and up. Massive data storage and fast networks in
the cloud also encourage this method of distribution.

I posted my latest album, "The Ascent of the São Paolo," that was inspired
by this year's Different Skies, and have just followed it with the 2008 album
"Arcosanti Suite." Over the next month or two I will archive my albums as
MP3s, each about 100 Mb, to Soundcloud. That will include the Planetary
Goddesses cycle that started in 2008 with "Ylla," the Gaia's Children cycle,
and the Cancer CDs that include the 2009 performance of "Oncologia."

For me, big MP3s are faster to produce, less genre-specific than netlabels, and
move toward my idea of "album-as-book," that is, nowadays individual songs
make less sense for an Indie musician than they once did. One can browse an
album after downloading it using iTunes, so why not grab the whole thing?

You can grab the first two albums in the archive here:

http://soundcloud.com/shamaniaq-slate/tracks

Enjoy!

Hello all:

Well, holding off from DS for the past 2 years and concentrating on other things
seems to have paid off.

Next Monday, I start a real full-time job. It's an administrative gig at a
university, (my first non-academic gig), so the pay will be better and the hours
not insane.

The downside is I have to look and possibly think like a manager. Oh well,
gotta take the bad with the good. Show me the $$$!

One of the first things I want to do is upgrade my powered PA speakers. Hence,
I am soliciting the advice of the most savvy techno-geeks that I know.

Some criteria:
========================
Generic small/medium club PA use of course.
I don't play rock (okay, I did twice this year), mostly jazz.
I'd like to be able to use just one of these to amplify acoustic bass with very
good fidelity.
They'll also be used for acoustic and electronic percussion.
As light weight as much as possible. (I'm getting old, and the bassist is a
female.)

Any thoughts?

Also, there will be a pair each of Behringer B-212A (good condition)and B-215A
(like new condition) for sale to a good home.

Thanks and regards,
