Join me tonight for another edition of Blue Water Drift Dive, my live
ambient net radio program on StillStream.com:

- The show begins tonight, Sat Feb 3 at 11p ET (Sun Feb 4 at 4a GMT)
and lasts 4 hours

- Tonight we'll be playing a whole bunch of new music to StillStream,
including cuts from Coyote Oldman, Harold Budd, Jonn Serrie, Michael
Stearns and many others.

- There will be no live ambient train wreck tonight; however, we will
dig an oldie or two out of the StillStream vaults and play those
instead. Should be at least mildly entertaining!

- Tonight's longplay ambient feature will be Craig Padilla's
masterpiece Vostok in its entirety.

- There may be a pre-show live ambient warmup doodle if time permits.

- To listen: http://www.stillstream.com/listen.php

- To chat: http://www.stillstream.com/chat.php

Hope to see you there!

Maybe this could be helpful when sharing audio / video from DS07.

   _____

Pando: P2P file transfer application and subscription-based service for very
large packages (up to 50 GB)

" <http://www.pando.com/> Pando is a downloadable application that,
according to CEO Robert Levitan, was designed to 'help people share media
directly with other people.' In other words, this free downloadable
application facilitates 'super high quality, really really large file
transfer' in a way that's faster and more efficient than the file-transfer
features in e-mail and instant-messaging clients. Levitan especially
marketed it as a tool for the hot web-video market: send your home videos to
your family, for example. The revenue model is based on in-application
banners, embedded video ads, and a set of premium packages that were
recently launched."

Teapotters is the first 3D Community that let you share and publish your 3D
models with others

"A new '3D community' has just been launched, with the unusual name of
Teapotters. The name comes from 3D pioneer Martin Newell, who created the
first free 3D model in 1974 - a teapot model. The site
<http://www.teapotters.com/> Teapotters.com aims to popularize 3D displays
and sharing across the Web - websites, social networks, blogs and more - via
a '3D widget.'"

Present for free with Spresent and a Web browser (SaaS)

"This online presentation service lets you quickly create decent
presentations that you can deliver from any computer with a Web browser.

<http://www.spresent.com> Spresent competes with other online apps such as
Thumbstacks and Zoho Show [see comparison]. What sets Spresent apart is its
slick Flash-based user interface and tight integration with other Web
services. Need a picture of a mountain or an octopus to go along with your
bullet points? Spresent has built-in Flickr browsing, which pulls up
previews and URLs without leaving the presentation-building experience. You
can also embed YouTube videos. When you're done with a presentation, you can
share it three ways: save and send the file to another Spresent user, e-mail
it as a self-playing file, or use the Embed link to put it on Web sites."

my thoughts exactly. The Stones were boring and tired. Prince was jacked up and
entertaining and i'm not even a big Prince fan although i thought Purple Rain
was the most bitchin' movie by a rock&roller since Help. One thing to consider
though is that Prince is considerably younger than any of the Stones. . . by
almost half. . . right?
However, for total "cool", it's hard to beat Charlie Watts. : )

yea, how the hell do you put on that kinda show without getting electrocuted?
hahah and as far as playing goes, that guy can play. . .still, good grief,
most people can't play that good when their instrument is dry!! i was
impressed. And in a freaking downpour?? for no other reason than that he should
get into the R&R hall of fame. hahaha . . and no, don't get me into a
discussion as to the merits of the R&R hall of fame, my doc says i'm supposed to

For all intents and purposes, Watts IS the Rolling Stones. Both Mick and
Keef have said that if Charlie retires, the Stones are through. As a
non-Stones fan, that might not be a bad thing....

If I understand how these shows are done, everything and I mean
everything is wireless, even the instruments that don't move much or
at all. They do it that way so the stage can be set up in a big hurry
(it weighs many tons and must be moved into place in less than five
minutes), but in this case it also avoids electric shock risk. Rush
took advantage of the exact same setup in Brazil a couple of years
ago; they played for 60,000 people in a driving rainstorm because
they weren't able to stop the show without causing a riot.

ok, ok, i got the wireless thing . . i used to use wireless all the time years
ago but my questions wasn't focused enough. Water will eventualy get underneath
the pickguard of the guitar. Unless the pickups are epoxy sealed ti the body,
water will get into the hairline space between the body and the pickups. Also
through the spaces in the adjustable bridge and on and on. I guess my amazement
was directed more to the fact that the guitars didn't short out. Maybe there
just wasn't enought time elapsed for that to happen.
And what about those keyboards?? hahah
I'm not asking for a technical printout : ) just voicing amazement. And i
also realize that alot of the camera shorts accentuated the amount of rainfall
but there were a couple close in shots of the stage and you could see from the
drop splatter on the stage that it was coming down pretty good.
i'll shut up now.

Actually, rain down here is pretty ph neutral, and unless it comes
off the water (which this rain didn't) it's also pretty ion free.
Keyboards work perfectly well drenched in distilled water.

I've always been very afraid of playing in a trio like this, since the
bass usually has to fill in lots more than in, say, a quartet, which is
my usual band size. Just don't think I have the chops to pull it off.
Having said that, though, one of my funnest gigs was just that, a trio
playing blues and rockabilly and surf.

I remember seeing them on the Synchronicity tour at "Day on the
Green".Sting was at the top of his game;playing fretless
bass, singing, keyboards, electric upright bass and topped off with some
amazing dancing(while playing fretless) I remember leaving thinking he
had to be one of the most beautiful and talented people on the
planet....

Folks-

the show this Saturday has been canceled.
We are without heat and plumbing and it looks to be that way for a good
week.
Nobody had bothered to keep the schoolhouse warmish while empty and the
cold did something bad.
Full refunds will be issued within 48 hours.

Greetings and salutations to all of you in my Different Skies family, old
friends, new friends, and friends still to be made. I would like to thank you
all for your support and friendship over the past months and years, and
parenthetically for letting me deal with Life between getting back from DS2k6
and now... I'm still not completely dug out yet, and mind3Spiral (April 7,
2007) is approaching rapidly, but I can wait no longer to ring the bell and
awaken the sleepers from their slumber....

In two weeks, sometime during the business day on March 1, 2007 (probably very
early in the day so that Europeans will be awake to see the announcement), I
will throw open the doors and take the first 20 registrants for Different
Skies 2007. Anyone who signs up after the first 20 will be placed on the
waiting list and taken in order as people on the Go list are forced to drop
out. I reserve the right to hold one or two places on the Go list for people
who have talked to me beforehand about providing concert support services not
directly related to onstage performance. (I know, that's kind of cryptic, but
I'll explain more when we get a bit closer to the time.)

For those of you who may have forgotten, DS 2k7 will begin with initial setup
on stage at Arcosanti on Sunday, October 14, 2007, and will conclude with a
public performance on Saturday night, October 20, to close out the Arcosanti
summer concert season. We will say our goodbyes the following day, Sunday the
21st. This is our fifth year (!) and I am looking forward to a wonderful
experience.

This is the latest we've ever done a DS. I apologize for that, but my own
schedule hit a "perfect storm" of conflicts involving work and family that
prevented my getting a week away without major problems for any week before
this one, stretching all the way back into early August. What this means in
practical terms is that Arcosanti will be pleasantly cool during the days and
quite cold at night. We're going to have to rent propane heaters for the
audience, and it would be wise to pack a bit warmer clothing than usual (and
maybe some fingerless gloves). Other than that, it's looking like the same
program: arrive, set up, write music, talk until all hours, rehearse, perform,
fall over. I can't wait.

Here's the list of folks who are currently eligible for DS attendance this year.

Dave Brewer
Darrell Burgan
John Christian
Jim Combs
Scott Drengsen
John Duval
Rus Foster
Bill Fox
Dave Fulton
Tony Gerber
John Goff
Brian Good
David Herpich
Chris Kuborn
Jeff Kunzelman
James Lacey
Dave Lovelace
Mark Mahoney
Chris Mandra
Joe McMahon
Neal Merrick
Mike Metlay
Howard Moscovitz
Dennis Moser
Skip Murphy
Paul Nagle
Craig Padilla
Otso Pakarinen
Jair-Rohm Parker Wells
Heather Perkins
Giles Reaves
Richard Roberts
John 3 Rossi
Nick Rothwell
Peter Ruczynski
Clark Salisbury
Gert van Santen
Ivan Schwartz
Christopher Short
Jesse Sola
Bill Stunt
Tim Thompson
David Tristram
Paul Vnuk Jr.
Tim Walters
Greg Waltzer
Hong Waltzer
Doug Wellington
Richard Wentk
Doug Wyatt

Anyone who feels they should be on this list but were omitted by accident, or
who wants to get on the list for this year, should contact me ASAP. There's
still time to get you qualified and set up before March.

One last note: the fee will be going up a little bit this year, probably to
$330 per performer. As usual, foreign attendees can wait to pay until they
arrive, to avoid transfer costs. I accept cash, personal checks, and PayPal
payments, although using the latter will make the fee slightly higher ($340)
to cover PayPal's fees. If you want to bring a spouse or other tantric
counterpart, you need to specify that when you sign up; be aware that spaces
for non-performers are not impossible to arrange, but do require a bit more
money for room and board (total of $500 for two people) AND some advance
planning on my part (there are a limited number of rooms that are
couples-friendly, and they go fast).

As always, the forum is always open for discussion of the upcoming event, by
attendees and non-attendees alike.

Here we go again!
