Somebody is bringing an MX-8 which could be put in-line before the 5LX
as a way to send MIDI to Tim and a copy to the 5LX to have its MIDI

Did he put a photo up of the JPG so people could see what they were

Hi Tim,

Did you do the transcription? Nice job, although I may have made the
cut time bars as 2/2, a small niggle at best.

I could redo it in 3/4 if it would be easier for people to read. 3/2 seems
more idiomatic to me, but it's not worth causing confusion.

Hey you two. Have either of you had a chance to check out the tune I
uploaded? (www.myspace.com/unavocezone) So far, Otso, Tim and even
Brian have previewed it. There are potentially a lot of details to
square up, provided everyone is still onboard. I'm prepared for a slew
of inquiries and assorted questions, and I'll be happy to reply with a
much helpful information as possible. If everyone is on the same page
with respect to arrangement specifics, this tune will drop some jaws.
Robotic as some parts may be on an individual level, the overall
effect is still marvelously organic. And that's not just my opinion ;)

Need some feedback soon, doods. With your experimental jazz and prog
backgrounds, this should be relatively easy to pull off. It just
SOUNDS difficult!

A JPG??? How can a cheap digital copy ever do justice to the true
warmth of a... well, whatever the hell it is?

Someone needs to tell the bidders they're getting ripped off, because a
truly good deal would be far more expensive. Those fools!

(Say, Rus, have you considered going with an all-JPG rig this year?
Think of how many instruments you could run on a small laptop if you
embraced the digital graphic route.)

Fortunately for Ms. Heap, she's very cool in a lot of ways, so that
when she is completely eclipsed on the mbira tip the world won't
forget her. :)

The mbira player no one's ever heard of, who's going to suddenly
appear out of nowhere and blow the world away, is a wonderful young
lady named Kelli Rudick. She has a gigantic customized mbira with a
multi-octave range that she plays like an angel, and also is a
fantastic guitarist and singer. I have been trying to convince my
Editor to let me interview her for over a year now, and am amazed
that nobody's beaten me to her yet.

And Paul's mbira has been at DS at least twice before but he's never
found a place to play it. I'm surprised that no one remembers; I
messed with it a couple of times. It's a beautiful instrument.

I've got a couple of Kalimbas with contact mics in them. They work
particularly well for processing and looping; especially for looping
and dropping the pitch for industrial rhythmic sounds.

A few years back I did a gig with one using a small guitar amp and got
some interesting feedback sounds as well. Think I'll have to practice
a while to perfect a Kalimba version of Purple Haze.

It's titled 'Dissolve'. I was using the lesser name as more like an

on the name until I uploaded it. Just wait. You'll dig it ;)

First of all...wow what an amazing video, somehow I have never seen
Imogen before.

Second, you guys are building this up way toooo much...I run mine
through a ton of effects and use it to make weird clanky sounds (kind

Same here. I have found some nice tonal/rhythmic patterns that work
well, but otherwise it isn't exactly a solo instrument, at least not
in my hands.

ok. i was right in my assumption. There was a guy here in town about fifteen
twenty years ago who was making electrified Kalimbas at the time. From small
ones to very large "bass" Kalimbas. the sound just captivated me and i sure wish
i had been able to afford one. Even back then he was charging around $350 for
one and i just didn't have the scratch. I can see where they would be just
gorgeous through delay lines and loopers. Oh well.
