(apologies that it seems like I'm commenting on
every post - which okay, I might do sometimes, but in
this case I'd have done a total reply if my system
hadn't been really screwy today!)

>> other
Yahoo clubs and they average much more than a post a
month!

Is that TDC or non TDC ones? I've joined a handful
of TDC clubs and not seen a lot of activity
anywhere. But conversely I always forget to read the
bulletin board on their site - so I could have quantity if
I did want it.

Btw - I hope you do get a
chance one day to see them.

>> Actually,
their music, sadly, isn't even played on the radio. No
one knows who they are, which is an absolute crime
because they're (Neil) so
magnificent.

Disappointingly that's not so different to here! New TDC
tracks
might get playlisted from time to time, but you're very
lucky if you get to hear them, and luckier still to
stumble over an older track on someones playlist.

>> So, if any of you have been to concerts, and I'm
sure you have, do tell about them. I'd love to hear
how Neil performs live.

Tell me to shut it if
this crosses the line to making you feel even more
left out!

I first saw Neil & co in Gloucester
in 1998. It was an impulsive decision to go along -
I saw a poster in a local record shop and was
reminded of how I'd adored Casanova when I'd been given
it. (Although as it turned out I didn't totally fall
for the band back then - I did buy Lib/Prom/ASAAL but
was actually rather slow to embrace any of them, not
finding them very Cas-like on initial plays...) And Glos
is close. It was easy to get to, easy to go, and my
sister came along, so all was kewl.

The gig was
an eye opener. I loved every second of it - and I
wanted to kick myself for not playing the albums before
going because so many tracks were only just familiar
(and I do like the familiar more than the new at gigs,
I confess). I went home with a souvenir t-shirt,
but much more besides, I'd really become a
fan.

And a lucky one, because I was able to go to see them
again that same summer and it was even better, and
again several more times: Ross On Wye (98) Newcastle
(shared bill - 99) Bristol (01) Oxford (01) Cardiff (Neil
and Ivor only 01) Brixton (01). I missed any festival
stuff they've done, and also the non-band stuff like
Joby's music evening - wish I had gone though.

If
you actually want to hear more about these gigs, let
me know :o)

>> Now I'm not one of these
music critics who comment on diction, tone, harmony
blah, blah, blah in a song. I either like a song or I
don't based on the way it sounds. So saying, I found
nothing bad about the new album. I actually liked it very
much.

We've all got our own set of references, and it's good
to contrast them and get a discussion going. The
only thing that annoys me is bald statements that
assume too much and which I think need to be
qualified.

Your non-criteria for judging is interesting Jessica,
and sort of reflects mine in that I'm not a musician
myself, so I don't respond to the TDC on those levels
that might first attract someone else of a musical
background.

>> Neil's new "grungy"
look

Oh there are some pics around... definitely! If I
come across any again I'll post up a link.

And
I think 'grunge' is a bit of a misnomer, he's
perfectly tidy-looking, but with longer hair, facial hair
and much more casual, ie t-shirts and trainers...
