Thanks to all who came to our little celebration for Baba
yesterday evening 4/13, in St. Paul.
We had literally ALL ages; a drum-prodigy 5 year old
(MAX-look out for him), a family who brought their brood and
some neighbor kids, and a couple who brought their newborn,
(He slept during the WHOLE thing) Doug Christianson, besides
leading great mood facilitation played some mean jun jun
with percussionist Scott Frederickson, who volunteered to
also keep our bottom strong on Sangba.
Thoughts and reflections were passed around. I explained the
Gun-go Pa, for those who were uninitiated, and displayed
Baba's video and CD's for those who really didn't know who
is "IS". A few rock drummers who were there are excused,
(Not!) No request was made for donations per se but a basket
was on a big gathering drum next to a lit candle (yes, a
tray was underneath)
We did Baba's, Jin-go-lo-ba and Fanga Alafia was a great
piece with dancing and chanting. During the dance/chant I
played the melody on Balafon and in the dimmed lighting you
realy felt
the spirit of Baba and Mother Africa. Yes, we had a good
circle. It wasn't packed, as it was one of the first nice
days weatherwise here in Minnesota. But those that came were
lively and gave a dollar or two. A check is being sent of
our contribution for Baba's return home. Every little bit
helps. Thanks to everyone. Alafia.
