Dear Community

My Vision:

I hold my in my heart the vision that there will one day be a drumcircle in
every city area, village and town on earth. A place where people of all ages
and races will come to be healed, to celebrate life, to relax, to share, to
enjoy, to be one. A place where we will put aside our differences, lay down
our religions and beliefs. A place where we will share that which is common
to us all, we will share our humanity, our Human BEING. The energies from
these circles will pulsate within the community, channeling loving energy
into the communities where they happen. The circles will make a huge
difference to the people that participate and the surrounding area. Each
person will experience being recharged with positive energy, having
creativelly expressed and shared. Having been moved and inspired in small
ways at each circle, we will then take this energy positivelly into our
communities. At the forefront of these circles will be individuals and
groups, leading the way, guiding by example and experience, teaching without
teaching, holding at the forefront of their minds the Highest Intentions and
the growth of their communities. This is a vision that I give me life too..

This is by no means 'The Answer' we are all seeking, however I believe it is
a part of 'The Answer'.

From 'Let Your Voice be Heard!':
“Taking part in group music making reaffirms and strengthens the bonds
between individuals, and by extension, the bonds to family, community,
country and planet. The process of practising and performing music in an
enviroment which welcomes every individual’s contributions opens the
channels for creative energy to flow freely. As this energy moves it
nurtures, it heals, it uplifts the participants.” Judith Cook Tucker

From 'Drum Circle Consciousness':
"When we are there, thoughts stop. When thoughts stop, time stops and
healing starts. We connect beyond our intellects, in a primal kinesthetic
dance that is expressed using sound, and by doing so we facilitate the
bonding of our spirit connections in the circle.

We cut through all racial, cultural, and gender boundaries, to the core of
who we are as human animals on the planet. That’s why the drum is a tool for
unity. It grounds us to our primal relationship with each other, mother
earth and the natural laws that govern the universe." Arthur Hull

I would like to thank Arthur for being my guide, for opening the doors. For
being a messanger of rhythm and spirit, thank you.

Love and Light and lot's of drumming.

Due to interest sparked by conversation on one of the drumming lines and by my
workshops, my friend Jim Morton, who makes the pullers that I use for tightening
verticals when heading or re-tuning drums, will be making a batch for any of you
who are interested. These are beautifully made and although similar to the basic
design of the "Magic Wand", I like them much better. During an exchange in which
I showed Jim how to head djembes and he showed me how to make Native style
drums-he is Nez Perce Indian and does not like the term "native American- I was
voceriferous about the things I didn't like about the "Magic Wand"-namely the
point to which it comes, which tears up anything with which it is padded and
frequently dents the drum anyway, and the length-a bit too long to fit
comfortably in bags and just long enough to hit me in the teeth if it slips
while I am pulling. Jim's pullers are just a couple of inches shorter and rock
smoothly on a curved base.

The new pullers will have a slight additional modification, an indent or offset
that will permit them to be used to pull the Mali weave (the cross weaving that
further tunes the drum) more by bracing it at the base of the pipe. While it is
entirely possible to pull Mali weave by hand, with a stick or by using a Clam
Cleat or Easy Rig, one gets a smaller, tighter and neater Mali weave
effortlessly using the same puller as that for the verticals.

I will be handling the business part, so those of you who are interested need to
send me your names and addresses and $40 per puller. Shipping is included.
(Contact me offline for my address.) Jim will drop ship the pullers directly to
you-unless you are in the West Virginia area and would like to pick them up and
perhaps visit Gray Bear Lodge and his crafts store when you do so. The cleat on
the puller will handle rope from 1/8" to 1/4" unless you specify otherwise.
There will be an additional charge for cleats for larger diameter rope.
(Personally I do not understand why you would need larger diameter rope.)

Best to all-

Beverly

Greetings friends:

A while back, one of our Djembe-L members had a grave concern regarding the
stability of our elist being hosted at Yahoogroups.com and their ability to
DELETE an email list on a "whim."

So, in the recent weeks, we've been looking at the possibilities of moving our
elist to a more friendly, stable and advertising free email service.

And, we've found it! Djembe-L will be hosted at Topica.com, and will be
ad-free, will be owned by Drums not guns, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit membership
organization that operates solely on your donations. Topica.com is not a free
service, it costs about $25 - $50 a month to operate. Please help us out with
your financial support ........ You can send your donation thru www.paypal.com
to this edress: dng@.... We thank everyone who has supported us in the
past.

And, in keeping with our tradition, we, the Mod-Squad, are letting ya'll know.
We'll be moving your edresses over to the new service in the coming days, and,
you'll be receiving confirmation messages as your edresses get added.
Escribe.com has taken over the archiving of our list for the past two months.
Our ancient archives, of 12,000+ messages, will be transferred either to our
website Djembe-L FAQ or picked up by our new service provider.

Some of the new features will be:
Easier subscription managing
NO SPAM by provider
HTML Posting
Attachments will be allowed for flyers, registration forms, etc

Until we make the official switcheroo, please continue posting to
Djembe-L@yahoogroups.com. Should you have any questions, regarding this move,
please direct them to your Djembe-L Mod-Squad djembe-l-owner@yahoogroups.com

peace,
Djembe-L Mod-Squad

Greetings friends of Babatunde Olatunji:

I just heard that our dear friend, and mentor, Baba Olatunji, recently had
successful heart bypass surgery (last week) and is recovering well at a
convalescent facility in Monterrey, CA, for a week or so, then back to Esalen,
where he is an artist in residence.

Please, folks, when you drum this week, send prayers of love & healing energy to
our friend, Babatunde Olatunji.

peace and love,
HappyShel

Dear Taylor,
I teach music at Krejci Academy in Naperville, a private non-profit school for
children and adolescents with disabilities. We serve children with mental
illness, autism, behavior problems, ADHD, etc.
I have this wonderful percussion group at my school--the kids are terrific.
Right now we're using buckets for drums, since I have no budget.
I'm trying to raise money to buy good quality drums--tubanos, congas, talking
drums, shakeres, etc. A lot of my curriculum is world drumming.
Can you help? Not with a donation, but advice? I get my instruments through
WEST MUSIC in IA. Do you know anywhere with good prices?
Do you know of any foundations for grants?
Do you know of any drummers who would donate gently used instruments?
Do you know anybody who would like to donate to children-at-risk, children with
disabilities?
Steven Quinn gave me your name, speaks quite highly of you.

Cordially,
Scott Houlne Iseminger

Try 'Djembefola' starring Mamdady Keita

Another is 'Mandiani: Drum and Dance' by Paul Sunkett.

These are both documentary style videos.
