PRESS RELEASE

Drums Not Guns hosts Drum Extravaganza in support of the "Season for Nonviolence"

DALLAS, TX - On Saturday, March 15th from 2PM to 7PM at Tenison Park at the corner of E. Grand Blvd. and Tenison Parkway, Drums not Guns, www.drums.org/dng a local community service group, is hosting a Drum Extravaganza in support for the "Season for Nonviolence". Drummers, dancers, children and families are invited to participate.

Michael Kenny, MMT, MT-BC, Drums Not Guns newly elected Board president said "The Drum Extravaganza is a way for us to gather the drum and dance community and the community at large to emphasize and explain our mission and to join together in expanding our personal awareness of how community drumming can create a culture of peace."

Drum Extravaganza will bring attention to the idea of peace and nonviolence through rhythm in support of the "Season for Nonviolence". The "Season for Nonviolence" framed by the anniversaries of the assassinations of Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., offers a 10-week period to learn from the lives and teachings of these models. The Season for Peace and Nonviolence runs Jan. 30 to April 4 of each year. For local community information http://www.64-days.org/

The event will include community drum circles, drum performances, drumming games and lessons along with drum making and drum repair displays. People of all ages and skill levels are invited to join. Drums and rhythm instruments will be available for those who want to do more than tap their feet.

Drums Not Guns has recently had a major reorganization and a newly engaged Board of Directors expect to expand the work of Drums Not Guns in north Texas in support of peace and nonviolence by using drumming as a tool to engage at risk youth and the community at large in a culture of nonviolence.

DNG supports efforts to develop, revitalize, and appreciate these traditions in north Texas, North America and the world.

Drums Not Guns' goal is to promote the concept of nonviolence through drumming, believing that when people come together to enjoy and play music, greater communication and understanding are fostered and all are reminded of our common humanity and interdependence. DNG seeks to make drumming accessible, and to create a safe and community in rhythmic expression so that people can experience drumming and dance as the powerful forms of self-expression that administer global healing and create a culture of peace.
