Good to read in the press this weekend that the follow-up to Life On
Mars, Ashes To Ashes, starts on BBC 1 at 9pm this Thursday - that's
one night I certainly won't be working late in the office ! No Sam
Tyler this time, the new series is set in the 80's and will still
feature DCI Gene Hunt with sidekicks Ray and Chris who have all
apparently moved from Manchester to London.
In the meantime, I've acquired the box set of Starsky and Hutch - all
4 series of approximately 100 episodes on 20 discs. I started
watching them this afternoon though it's obviously going to take a
while to get through them all. Absolutely amazing value at under £30
from Amazon.
First gig of the year was Simple Plan at the Electric Ballroom in
Camden last Sunday. They actually played three gigs that day - all
in Camden - starting off at the Barfly at midday before moving on to
the Underworld (both of which were unplugged sets featuring their
first two albums)and finishing off at the Electric Ballroom for a
full show featuring a mix of old faves such as Shut Up, Addicted and
God Must Hate Me, plush some of the songs from their new album, which
is released this week. Looking forward to hearing the album in full.
If the tracks are all as good as the new single, When I'm Gone, then
it promises to be another cracker. Great to learn that Simple Plan
are back in the UK in April to play some more gigs, including one at
the Astoria on 18th. The ticket has been ordered !
Also on order is the debut album from One Night Only, Started A Fire.
The band supported The Pigeon Detectives on their recent UK tour and
are currently zooming up the singles charts with Just For Tonight.
Another band to watch out for in 2008 and yet another who hail from
Yorkshire so it looks like Leeds / Sheffield are taking over from
Liverpool and Manchester as the happening places for great music this
decade. Another superb artiste hailing from that area is Richard
Hawley. I've only just discovered his music though he's been around
a while, has had several albums out and seems to feature a fair
amount on Radio 2. Very different to the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs
and Pigeon Detectives but really nice gentle, soothing songs.
