Rahman song and background score in Tamil film Kannathil Muthamittal
fetched him the award for Best Music Direction. Vairamuthu bagged the
Best Lyric Writer award for the same film. The jury said Rahman's
number rose "above the conventions of film songs to reach the realms
of poetry".
