The 1000 best have been selected from the films
reviewed by the NY times over the decades and so
is not a popularity competition as many of these
things are.
Bollywood, rather India, is represented by
Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali and Mira Nair's Salaam
Bombay. Films from countries other than the US/Europe
are equally thinly represented though Japan seems to
fare rather well. The film details include 'others
like this' and these can link to movies outside the
1000. Nonetheless the Magnificent Seven is not
mentioned in the list for the Seven Samurai despite
being a virtual copy.
