Dornob is a cross-generational Persian
dastgah collective based in
San Diego California.
We play Persian classical, folk, and original music in
untraditional ways, using group concepts from jazz.
Our goal, in addition to friendship, crossing cultural bridges, learning the music, and having fun playing music, is to make Persian music accessible to young and non-Persian audiences.
We play regularly at colleges in San Diego county.
In addition to Persian instruments:
tar, tombak, ney, daf, santur, and
qanun we also use fretless bass guitar and Persian-tuned keyboards to enhance our sound.
Dornob
grew out of Darvak Ensemble who prefer a more traditional approach.
Our name was suggested by Nima when he and Kamron first started the band in 2000.
But also listen to

Language is outside the door
