DEAR FRIENDS,
    As you may or may not know, November is LEONARD PELTIER FREEDOM MONTH.  As most of the people on my mailing list are good friends of mine, I assume that you know who Leonard Peltier is.  If you do not, please reply to this message and tell me so, and I will send you information. This is a CRUCIAL time for Leonard Peltier.  There will be a large presence of supporters in Washington, DC for the entire month-and pressure from all over the country needs to be felt in our nation's capitol.  We do not want the president to think that the people in DC are Leonard's only supporters. The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee has set up a phone tree system for the month. The U.S. is divided into 5 regions, each to call the White House on a different week day.  The central region, for those of us in the
midwest, is being requested to call the White house every Wednesday in
November.
    Supporters of this UNJUSTLY incarcerated Native American man have been calling and/or writing the White House or their Congresspeople at different times for many years.  But, we will have great political impact if we are tightly coordinated in our efforts to call-all of us on the same day.  They keep track of how many calls come in, and they have to send a message upstairs every night if there is a matter of serious public interest, specifically, Leonard.
   If you are unfamiliar with the case, don't worry-just tell the receptionist that you are calling to urge/demand President Clinton to grant clemency to Leonard Peltier. If you would like to say more, and want more info, send me a message and I will email it to you.
The phone number at the White House is 202 456 1111.  The idea is for us all to contact 5 friends and ask them to do the same.  Please call the White House every Wednesday in November and DEMAND CLEMENCY FOR LEONARD!!!
