Saxon

Thr. April 11th

All Ages
(Tickets on sale Friday, March 15 @ all Ticketmaster locations or at the Pop’s box office.)
Saxon was one of the early leaders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, along with Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. The band was formed in Barnsley in 1977 by vocalist Biff Byford, guitarists Graham Oliver and Paul Quinn, bassist Steve Dawson, and drummer Pete Gill. Originally calling themselves Son of a Bitch, they soon decided to find a subtler name, settling on Saxon. Like many young metal bands of the day, Saxon found it difficult to land a record deal in post-punk England, but eventually signed with French-based Carrere Records. Though Saxon's 1979 self-titled debut album was marred by a lightweight production job, the band built a strong following touring Britain as support group to Motörhead and Nazareth. The band capitalized on this exposure with their sophomore effort the following year. “Wheels Of Steel” featured a much heavier, metallic sound, which finally did their songs justice. The album was immediately heralded as a classic by fans and critics alike and the band was apparently on their way.
They released two more fine albums, “Strong Arm Of The Law” and “Denim And Leather”, over the next year while touring relentlessly across Britain, Europe, and the U.S. Even the loss of founding drummer Pete Gill to Motörhead (replaced by Nigel Glockler) didn't slow their momentum, and a live album, “The Eagle Has Landed”, capped their hot streak in 1982.
Though they'd barely dented America, Saxon's early success was only rivaled by Iron Maiden, and the band seemed poised on the brink of worldwide success.
1985's “Innocence Is No Excuse” featured great songs, but old fans balked at the slick production and new fans failed to take notice, prompting bassist and principal songwriter Steve Dawson to quit the band. Paul Johnson replaced him and Saxon limped through the rest of the decade recording pop-metal albums in a futile attempt to connect with American top 40 fans while slowly corroding their European fan base.
Eventually, the members of Saxon gave up their dreams of ever making any headway in America, dropped their pretenses, and returned to their British metal roots. This resulted in their strongest material in years: 1992's “Forever Free”; 1995's excellent “Dogs Of War” (after which guitarist Graham Oliver departed to re-form Son of a Bitch with Pete Gill and Steve Dawson); 1997's “Unleash The Beast”; and 1999's “Metal Head”. The band even managed to land a new U.S. record deal with CMC International for the latter two discs, which also led to their first American tour in almost a decade.

                DRIVIN' RAIN NEWS LETTER

               AUTUMN NEWS- NOVEMBER 13 2001

It's that old spooky tike of year again, when the leaves change colors and fall from the trees. A cold night air feels your lungs. The days grow shorter and people begin to move indoors. Its Autumn and this is your new DRIvIN' RAIN NEWS LETTER.

The DRIvIN' RAIN boys have been busy this Autumn with several shows around the midwest. Two shows at Mudd's Memories in Ashley Illinois. "We just love Mudds its a very kick ass black light club with lots of old rock posters and show bills." Say drummer G.P. Clark. The band also did another show in Ashley at The Last Call. "It was cold as hell but we drank enough Jack to warm us up. The truth is we just love to play in Ashley because the people are so cool. And I have a lot of family not far from there." Geep added. DRIvIN' RAIN will be booking more shows in Ashley soon. Keep a eye on our show dates page at www.DRIVINRAIN.NET

DRIvIN' RAIN did another how in Cape this fall. They played with local punkers I.D.C. Greg Wolf basest for DRIvIN' RAIN told us about this show. "A very good band that reminds me of Green Day or Blink 182. I.D.C. asked us if we would play a show with them. And we want to play all the time so we said yes." The show was tons o fun and DRIvIN' RAIN hopes to play with our home boys in I.D.C. again soon.

On September 28 and 29 the Raingang rocked the City Of Roses Music Festival again. At the Friday Night shows DRIvIN' RAIN had a blast playing with Coeli, Steppen Out, Krimzin and others. But on Saturday DRIvIN' RAIN did two shows at this years fest. The first earlier in the day DRIvIN' RAIN took the main stage to do a opening set for Eddie Money and Lee Oskar of WAR. Two large stages were set up on two barges set on the banks of the Mississippi in Cape Girardeau Missouri.  DRIvIN' RAIn did a great all original set. "It was wild" Timexx remembers. "We had like a crowd in front and people in boats behind us. It was very cool to be like ON the river playing." Eddie Money took the stage over later and blasted through a string of hits like "I Wanna Go Back", "Two Tickets To Paradise", "Take Me Home Tonight", "Shaken", "Walk On Water" and other massive radio hits. After Eddies set Lee Oskar a former member of the 70s band WAR took over the River Front Stage. And rocked the night away with classic WAR hits like "Low Rider", and "Cisco Kid" plus other top hits. Lee preformed with the ACME BLUES BAND and THE WATER STREET BLUES as his back up. However as Oskar was rocking the Main stage DRIvIN' RAIN did another show on the Metal Stage at Mollies where the joined Tribal Dust, Emaciation and Dillagence for a all out Metal Assault on the City Of Roses. DRIvIN' RAIN was also featured in that nights Local News on KFVS TV 12 a CBS Affiliate. The 2001 C.O.R. fest was a blast and the Raingang can't wait for next years Fest.

On Friday November 9th DRIvIN' RAIN headlined another music festival in Jackson Missouri. When the stormed the stage at The Jackson Jaycees's Community Center at Metal Fest I (Autumn fest 2001). DRIvIN' RAIN unvailed two new songs "Radio" and "Nail In My Coffin" when the band played them LIVE for the first time. The opening bands were Coeli, Knotted Fear, Boko, Thred, Verdigris, Tribal Dust, Emaciation, and Jackson heros Pollyduster. This was a all ages event and over three hundred people packed in to the Community Center to rock hard and heavy with the best of Local Metal. Metal Fest is part of the Four Seasons Metal Series, and DRIvIN' RAIN as already signed on to do three more Metal Fest next year. And the band says a LIMITED EDITION DRIvIN' RAIN CD will be sold at the Metal Fest II on 02/02/02. The disc will feature four DRIvIN RAIN songs and a glow in the dark cover. KICK ASS!

In October the Offical DRIvIN' RAIN website was forced to move from its .COM to a new .NET site. "The old one was stolen from Internet Terriorst. Timexx said "Our webmaster was in the hospital and the site came due again. Well within 48 hours this guy from N.J. bought it up. I caled him and sent some e-mail to try and buy it back. I told the guy how it was a mistake. But he refussed to sell it back saying he thought it would bring a good price for him on the market. He's just holding it for ransom I guess. But I we'll just have to leave him in the hands of Karma. I'm sure his life sucks anyway." So you can now find the NEW DRIvIN' RAIN website at www.DRIVINRAIN.net. Please change you links and bookmarks if you have any. It took awhile to get every thing switched over to the .net site thats why the e-news letters are running a bit behind. The new site already has new features. Like a new message board, Lyrics page, Photos, and new MP3s are going to be put up soon.

DRIvIN' RAIN will not be doing any LIVE shows in December or January as they will also be moving indoors to cut new tracks at IBS STUDIOS 2 in Cape Girardeau Missouri. Kenny Keller ex-Beggars Jury member and long time friend of Timexx and Tommy will be turning the knobs and doing the mixing for the new CD. "We're going to revord 11 songs for the new CD." Tommy told us. We'll be working very hard to get it out by Summer 2002. Toni McCormick is doing all the art work for the CDs. Toni is also producing a DRIvIN' RAIN DVD for winter release. It will featuere live footage, interviews, TV footage, and more.

The boys will be back out again on Febuary 2 2002 when the blast METAL FEST II this time at KAOS in Cape. As well as shows in Ashley, Carbondale, Vandaila, and Mounds in Illinois, plus lots of new Missouri dates. Your Winter News Letter is on the way and we hope to see you on the road. Make www.DRIvINRAIN.net you homepage and keep up on all the Raingang news and show dates. See you all in 2002!- DRIvIN' RAIN

                                           DRIvIN' RAIN

                                       Summer News Letter  9/17/01

The dog days of summer are on us once again. And mass groups of people around the country beg for DRIvIN' RAIN. And don't worry friends that cool refreshing rain is on the way.  This summer as been a very hard and hot one on the band. Many things have changed, but still the Rain rolls on.

DRIvIN' RAIN's CD was to be released on July 4th 2001. However just days before the band was to enter Digital Labs Studio to begin recording, studio owner and friend Rich Como lost his battle with cancer on March 31 2001. DRIvIN' RAIN frontman Timexx Nasty said "Rich was always so full of life and one of the most brilliantly eccentric people I have ever met. We only worked with him on one project (The City Of Roses Rocks 2000 cd) and it is a memory none of us will ever forget." Raingang drummer Bradman told us "We were all shocked when we got the news about Rich, And we feel a great loss with his passing" Rich Comeau also played in the band Storybook. And his song "Outside The Lines" opens the COR cd. As he told us all not to be afraid to color outside the lines. Rich will be missed and never forgotten.

Not letting the loss of the bands producer weigh them down. DRIvIN' RAIN hit the road again to play a wild bunch of shows. Stopping in Carbondale at Boo Jrs. The boys jammed out two night. "One of the best things bout the Boo Jrs show was meeting the guys from Krimzin." said Tommy DeWolf. Krimizin is a three piece band from Mt. Vernon. And they were the opening band on the two Carbondale shows. DRIvIN' RAIN's booking team says that Krimzin will be opening other dates for DRIvIN' RAIN this fall and winter. Greg Wolf said "We had a great time hanging out in Carbondale, and you gotta love a hotel that gives you free condoms."

Next the Raingang packed it back home for another show at Jeremiahs in downtown Cape. At this show the boys had a all girl punk/metal band called Eve's Downfall (aka Dickless) open the show. "Man they were cool as hell" say Timexx Nasty about them. "They were like a punk Go-Gos! And was great to see girls get up and ROCK!"  DRIvIN' RAIN hopes to see the girls open more shows for them this year.

Recently DRIvIN' RAIN made it's long awaited return to Mt. Vernon Il. When the boys were asked to play at this years TREYAPLOOZA event at the Holiday Inn's Off Broadway Club. A huge light show and a massive PA was rolled into the club. The packed house was treated to a wide range of Rock. From classic rock to EXTREME metal TREYAPALOOZA had it covered! DRIvIN' RAIN was thrilled to play with some of Southern Illinois hottest bands like BLACK HORSE who opened the night with some down right rocking classic and southern rock. Metal Core Master LUNATIC who rocked harder than anyone that night. Christian Rap Core band KOD RED mixed it up great as they slammed through their set. Local favorites 16'TIL played hard and heavy. DRIvIN' RAIN ended the night and recorded several songs live. And will add them to the web site as MP3 soon. The songs DOWNWARD SPIN and CRACKS IN THE ARMOR should be added very soon. Timexx, Greg and Tommy did some very cool interviews in the WDML Rocking Rhino mobile station. Timexx told us "This thing is bad ass, it looks like a huge rolling rhino. And Ted Nugent set in the same seat as me and did a interview." Nasty added "I could still smell the raw meat and gunpowder in the air!" Over all the event was a blast and DRIvIN' RAIN would love to come back next year. "Only next year we want to play earlier so we can drink sooner!" added Tommy. The Raingang had a great time in Mt. Vernon and look forward to coming back soon.

However on August 1 2001 Bradman announced his departure from DRIvIN' RAIN in a press release on his personal website. Brad stated "We were together for a long time, but I decided to leave the band for personal reasons and under the best of terms." Brad says details about his new project will be announced soon on his website. He promises new photos, video clips, showdates and details on his next CD will be forthcomming. "I'm working on the preparations for my next project now." Brad added. DRIvIN' RAIN singer Timexx Nasty stated "We think alot of Brad and we send a laural and hardy handshake to our brother. We wish Brad and Steve the best of luck and they will always hold a special place in this band." Timexx wanted our friends to know that "Brad had let us know over the last few months that he had a strong desire to follow other musical directions." Guitarest Tommy DeWolf said that "We wish Brad the best, and he knows that without us having to say it. We'll always be friends no matter what. And the same for Steve too!" Bassest Greg Wolf sent his best wishes to Bradman and said he's looking forward to seeing what Brad does next and ended by saying "It was great to have played with you man!"

The following day DRIvIN' RAIN announced that Brad's replacement will be G.P "Geep" Clark formally of DC TRYAL. Geep is a native of L.A. and is a power house drummer. Many of you have seen Geep with his last band on the road with DRIvIN' RAIN over the last year. Clark is also a former member of the west coast band with a east coast name NEW YORK ROCKS with Tony Matuzak of LIZZY BORDEN. He later joined Southern Illinois band DC TRYAL and was featured on two independently released CDs. G.P.'s influences are Tommy Aldridge, Buddy Rich, and Neal Pert. Timexx says "Geep is kind of a old new member of the band. He's been friends with us for a long time now and were happy to have him as a official member now."  Geep added "I'm ready to play and I can't wait to hit the road with these guys. And I'm very happy to be jamming with a real bass player like Greg and getting crazy with Timexx and Tommy." More details on Geep, NEW band photos, and more show dates will bw added to the website over the next several weeks.

Geep's first "Official" show with DRIvIN' RAIN was August 18 2001 at The Band Of The Hands show in Eminence Missouri when DRIvIN' RAIN opened for Jim Dandy's BLACK OAK ARKANSAS. The boys had a blast meeting all the other bands and spending time in the hills of Missouri. "We met some very cool bands from around the country and had a blast hanging out with all of them!" said Greg. ALSO as a big surprise guitarest Tommy became a father at this show. His girlfriend Krista gave birth to a wonderful six pound baby girl in West Plains Missouri. She went into labor while the Tommy's band was playing. She left the concert during Black Oak Arkansas' set to return to the cabin then was taken to a local hospital where she gave birth. The baby was named Anna Marie and is doing great. Fran from the Banding Fest told us "Anna is the first Official Banding baby. And we want to hang up a photo of her on the stage." Timexx added "We always seem to come home with more stuff then we left with." The event was a blast and DRIvIN' RAIN hopes to be back next year to play the BAND OF THE HAND Fest 2002. More details on Tommy, Krista, and little baby Anna will be forthcoming. CONGRATULATIONS TOMMY AND KRISTA!!!!

The next show was at MUDDS MEMORIES in Ashly Ill. Drummer Geep Clark said "We had so much fun there and we can't wait to come back and play again. MUDD was great to us and we loved the giant pussy he let us play with!" (Mudds has a huge cat that lives in a specail roon in the club) Watch for the rain to roll back into Mudds in late November.

DRIvIN' RAIN would also like to send a specail Welcome to the bands new booking agent for Illinois. Ryan "CrAsH" Overby will be handing all bookings for DRIvIN' RAIN in Illinois. "CrAsH is great!" said Timexx "He is a good friend and he's going to keep us very busy."  He's already got the boys booked into Mt. Vernon,  two shows in Ashley, and says other Illinois shows are in the works. Watch for the band to puul into POPS again soon. You can contact him at CrAsH@...

Your next chance to see DRIvIN' RAIN will be SEPTEMBER 28 & 29 when the Raingang returns to The 5th Annual CITY OF ROSES FESTIVAL in downtown Cape Girardeau Missouri. Where DRIvIN' RAIN will be opening for classic rockers EDDIE MONEY and LEE OSKAR (of WAR). DRIvIN' RAIN will do three shows at this years event. Friday night they boys will slam the COPA with Steppin' Out, Coeli, and Krimzin. Then on Saturday they will open for EDDIE MONEY who achieved world wide acclaim in the mid 80s with massive radio hits like "Shakin", "Two Tickets To Paradise", and "Take Me Home Tonight". Also on the main stage that night will be LEE OSKAR who is a former member of the band WAR. He helped to comose the hits "Low Rider", and "Cisco Kid". Lee will preform with the ACME BLUES BAND (with BRUCE ZIMMERMAN and The Water Street band). DRIvIN' RAIN will then storm the outside stage at Mollies on Spanish Street with heavy hitters Tribal Dust, Emaciation and Dillagence later that night.

ALSO at this years event will be the CLASSIC ROCK ALL STARS that includes former members of SURGERLOAF ("Green-Eyed Lady), BLUES IMAGE ("Ride Captian Ride"), IRON BUTTERFLY ("In Da Gadda Da Vida"), REAR EARTH ("GET READY"), and CANNIBAL & THE HEADHUNTERS ("Land Of A Thousand Dances"). Pluse over 50 other bands and solo acts at 10 clubs at this years COR FEST. Tickets to the festival are $10.00 and on sale at Official Ticket Outlets in Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky.

DRIvIN' RAIN would like to that all of the new friends they have made on the summer tour, and are ready to make even more new friends in the Fall. New show dates and even more info will be in the FALL NEWS LETTER so keep you mouse on www.DRIvINRAIN.com and we'll see you on the road!

13. Is that a ladder in your stockings or the stairway to heaven?
14. You might not be the best looking girl here, but
beauty is only a light switch away.
15. Are those real?
16. You must be the limp doctor because I've got a
stiffy.
17. I'd walk a million miles for one of your smiles,
and even farther for that thing you do with your
tongue. (Tommy Loves This One)
18. If it's true that we are what we eat, then I could be you by morning.
19. (Look down at your crotch) Well It's not just
going to suck itself.
20. You know, if I were you, I'd have sex with me.
21. You. Me. Whipped cream. Handcuffs. Any questions?
22. F**k me if I'm wrong, but is your name Sherry?
23. Those clothes would look great in a crumpled heap on my bedroom floor.
24. My name is (name)...remember that, you'll be
screaming it later.
25. Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?
26. Hi, I'm Mr. Right. Someone said you were looking
for me.
27. My friend wants to know if YOU think I'M cute.
28. Hi. The voices in my head told me to come over and talk to you.
29. My name isn't Elmo, but you can tickle me anytime you want to.
30. Hi, Mr. Right couldn't make it, so how about Mr. Nasty?
31. If you were the last woman and I was the last man on earth, I bet we
could do it in public.
32. Wanna come over for some pizza and sex? No? Why?
Don't you like pizza?
33. Baby, I'm an American Express lover...you
shouldn't go home without me.
34. Do you sleep on your stomach? Can I???
35. Do you wash your pants in Windex? Because I can
see myself in them.
36. I lost my puppy. Can you help me find him? I think
he went into this cheap motel room.
37. (Lick finger and wipe on her shirt) Let's get you out of these wet
clothes.
