Join us Friday, May 22nd for a rousing night of rock & roll at The 31st Street
Pub, headlined by legendary psychobilly band, The Quakes. Formed in the 1980's,
The Quakes are one of the first & most influential American psychobilly bands.
They play rock music which mixes elements of punk rock, rockabilly, and new
wave. These pioneers of the psychobilly scene have toured extensively in the US,
Europe, & Japan. They will be joined by Pittsburgh's own The Devilz in the
Detailz, a female-fronted quartet mixing 50-60's surf, garage, and rockabilly
with a gothic-horror appeal. The show will be opened by the psychobilly band,
Crooked Elm, hailing from West Virginia. The show begins at 9pm, and the cover

Portuguese TV station (one of the big ones) did a show about Drop Dead. They interviewed me on , yes ladies and cats Day 5 of the festival. I had no idea how t would come out, hell i don't remember what i said or most of that day. First ever Mutant Transmissions Festival Took place in LA in 2008 and showcased an array of the moist crazy, innovative and exciting bands.
Next Mutant Transmissions Festival is Set to take place in NYC and this time the spotlight is on the East Coast bands. We of course will have a few very special guests from all over with full details coming to you soon.

How can you be part of this project? Mutant Transmissions Festival is a DIY, weirdo music, oddball community project so we definitely want people to get involved with props, art work, operation and so forth. If you think you know who the most interesting and weird bands are we want to hear from you now!

Fangoria is the oldest and largest largest American horror magazine with a really large fan base. What does this mean for you? Well this means that if you into horror related music (from deathrock to pyschobilly to horror punk and surf ) you will have a great new place to find out the latest news, reviews, and band features. If your doing a record label or in a band you will have a chance for some huge exposure to the horror movie fans.

Hi guys drop dead is in just few days. We want to make sure you have the right info and don't have any problems getting places.

Please check out the list of venues for DDF bellow and also sight up information for the bus to the October 8 and 9 Hula Hula location of drop dead festival (beach party)

If you don't sign up for the buss in the next few days (Sunday night being the deadline) you will have to drive or take a taxi to Hula Hula so please make sure to do what is the best thing for you

Wednesday and Thursday Venue is the Hula Hula Club and is located at beautiful Praia do Rei beach outside of Lisbon

Drop Dead Arts and Crafts
We have also done really elaborate space transformation at the drop dead festival. In NYC we usually worked about 6 month to make each room really different, but coming to Europe it has become a really cool chance to collaborate with others. Last year Gothic Pogo Party, ghost Dance as well as few others and some creative bands and attendees all contributed to the cool look of the festival.
 
This year we are inviting you again to make your contribution.
Post your ideas, post pics of what you want to do, come join us when we decorate, we want to involve every person , band and promoter who is interested to make a visual impact.
 
What we are working on right now:
Back drops. Painted fabric to transform the space quickly . The room I am working on will be a bit of Cabinet of Dr Caligari black, gray and white false perspective feel.
 
Another project is making silver , and different color (neon) stars. We welcome you too to cut out some stars ad bring them to the festival All colors , all sizes.
 
We can alas use more of lights, and black lights. Most of us are flying in so it's a pain to bring that but if any one has extra Christmas lights they want to bring we can always use more (to be returned at the end of the festival.

Birth from Los Angles is making a stop in NYC , look for crazy synth punk/ I actually saw this guys do a whole show without a mic because sound system died in LA. One of  a most punk things i ever did see.

Early October will be an ideal combination of beach weather (with beach party on October 8 ) and low season prices.
Drop Dead Festival is a DIY community festival that spotlights great underground music overlooked by the mainstream. Festival booking tends to favor weirder bands and sounds but genres booked have included mutant disco, batcave, deathrock, weird wave punk, wave, ndw, electro and synthpunk anarcho, goth, experimental psychobilly, rockabilly , and more in the past

Drop Dead Festival History:
I am often asked by people who have never been to the Drop Dead Festival, what is it... Although its hard to describe Drop Dead Festival, you really do have to be there here is some background:
We started out in NYC 6 years ago in the legendary CBGBs club, and following years also held in in Limelight and Knitting Factory
Festival has grown and became the best known and largest festival for the really underground and outside of mainstream stuff.
From day one of the main goals of the festival was to give bands that are ignored by mainstream a larger audience and to help dj's promoters and clubs from across the world who work with this type of music to meet each other and work together.
In nyc we worked hard on introducing post punk, gothic punk and deathrock scenes to the horror punk and surf and psychobiology and rockabilly scenes. Although people really liked the new music they found many of them really didn't know about it before the festival. We usually had 3 floors with multiple stages and a dance floor as well as movie screenings, and other events.
We also try to book weirder bands as well as some NDW, wave, electro punk, anarcho punk and more.
Many of those type of bands have followings that are very fanatical and follow only that type of music.
Drop Dead has been a place for those fans to find more and to open up to new things.
The NYC and Los Angeles Drop Dead has been attended by people from all over America and the world. Over the years many people have asked us to bring the festival to Europe, and the idea appealed to us as well because it gave us a chance to book bands we couldn't in America because of the expensive flight prices.
Last year Drop Dead Festival hit Europe for the first time – Drop Dead Festival Prague , CZ. Festival was one of the most diverse and successful DD festivals so far and in 2008 we are brining DDF back to Europe. For 2008 we will be in Lisbon Portugal Becouse of the amazing location as well as a really great music scene there.

Official Drop Dead hotels are : Residencial Castromira and Residencial do Sul! These hotels are reserved for the Drop Dead ghouls only and are close to the venue and across the street from each other.

The special Drop Dead Price is 20 e per person per night. Some rooms have private bathrooms some have shared , but if you share one it will be with some one from the festival :)

Please be quick to book because the rooms will go fast and private bathroom rooms are the same price as shared ones. This is first come first get basis with all drop dead staff and crew the bands and some Djs already booked there

If your booked some place else you can also just cancel and join us in this one ;P


Full Info:
Residencial Castromira and Residencial do Sul are the official sleeping places for DDF-partygoers. We have arranged a standard room rate, which is lower than online prices. The negotiated rate per person is of EUR 20/night (VAT included. No breakfast) and thus we have made a «block reservation» of 127 places from October 8 (Wednesday) to October 13 (Monday), that is 5 nights. Some of the rooms are reserved already for the promoter and bands.
You should start making your own reservations today (early birds get more choices and the best places!). Reservations can be made either by fax (+351-218 142 169) or by email (reservas.castrosul@...). Please refer explicitly that is a reservation for DDF or Drop Dead or Festival, so then you can benefit from this reduce rate.

I live in Conyers, GA; which is not the most happening hotspot for the
Dead Reader. I was wondering though; if there are some events that
maybe I have missed. I just found out about DragonCon and Tribalcon;
but I would like some events that interest me to go to in my area. Are
there any Drop Dead Events in Conyers, GA area, Decatur, GA, or
Atlanta, GA, USA area?
