True. I work in a drum shop. In my experience, most drummers don't know
how to tune drums. More importantly, they don't know how easy it is to
learn the 'art' of tuning. You learn by doing it. They also don't
realize you NEED to put new heads on drums regularly to make them sound
their best.
If it sounds bad they tighten it more.....!!

well, some of us (like me) took up drums because we have bad
ears and can't tell the difference between tones and had
a hard time tuning drums until I got a drum dial and while
not perfect, really helped me.

I've run into this situation recently. A friend of mine is a much more
"seasoned" drummer than I am. He recently heard my kit for the first time, and
was really impressed with my tuning, and asked me to tweak his kit out. I have
gladly done so, but my question is this: How can someone play for so long and
not know how to tune? I am by no means bragging it has taken me a long time to
figure it out. Is this a common problem? Are there alot of drummers out there
that can't tune their drums?

Several years ago I had Mayer Brothers Drums custom build me a snare. They made
me a beautiful segmented shell drum out of African Bubinga, with tube lugs and a
Nickel piston strainer. It is a terrific sounding drum and the construction and
materials are utterly flawless.

Long story short; I just happened to run across their website again, and since I
hadn't heard from them in a while, thought I'd check in with Jack Mayer. Jack
says all is well and their business is still growing.

Because I have been so happy with the drum they made me I thought I'd pass along
their URL in case any of you might want to talk with them about building you a
drum or complete drumset. Visit http://www.mbdrums.com/ to check them out.
