I just received this cd from Brian Dorbuck(a real steal at
$13.00-includes US shipping).I've had 2 spins so far and really love it.
I highly recommend to any prog lover and apologize if it's been
discussed here before. This was released in '92 and if interested let me
know
and I'll connect you with Brian.
Since I'm terrible at reviews I've copied John Collinge's review from
the Winter/Spring 2003 issue of Progression Magazine.
Pete
" Out of the blue comes this very talented California band with monster
chops and an addled sense of humor suggesting a cross between Frank
Zappa and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Led by Trevor Lloyd's note happy (the
kind we proggers drool for) electric violin and keyboards,
Audiosynchrocy grabs you immediately with speedy, angular opener,
"Merrily Barreling Through Barely". These guys blend melody and
dissonance with jaw-dropping precision, their odd-metered vocal phrasing
and light, oft-goofy lyrical fare enhancing the disc's gymnastic aural
revelries. Hints of the Dixie Dregs and Happy The Man-style quirkiness
arise here and there, as during the eight-minute instrumental "Europa".
Even then, bright synth leads lend a unique identity. Five of these nine
tracks are instrumentals, ranging in tone and structure from aggressive,
sinewy fusion to beautiful piano ruminations (" Searching...") and
impressionistic soundscaping ("Aerial View"). Rounding out this
impressive ensemble are Dudley Brooks on guitar and vocals, bassist Jake
Feldman and drummer/percussionist Rob Canny (Lloyd also sings). Trevor
Feldman adds vibes to "That Constant Game", and would've been welcome on
other tracks as well. "

Los Angeles-based technical progressive metallers THE HUMAN ABSTRACT have issued
the following update:

"First and foremost, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT will no longer be working with Nathan
Ells [vocals]. We want to wish Nathan the very best in his future endeavors.
With that being said, we are now looking for our new lead singer.

"To clue everyone in, our new singer must be into Chuck Norris, Van Damme and,
most importantly, Steven Seagal movies.

"We will be holding public auditions, so if you have what it takes please reach
us at THAvocalistsearch@... and we will respond to you with more
information.

"But that's not all!

"We want to formally announce greater news! We are working hand in hand with
A.J. Minette on this next record which is well in the works. A.J. was the
original guitarist alongside Dean [Herrera] for the band. Mr. Minette will be
part of the writing force and will serve as producer for the third album.

"We are tremendously excited to be working together again. A.J. wanted to add,
'Let me be the first to say…FIRST POST. NO ONE CARES. VAN FLIP.'

"The process of completing this album has been prolonged and will take quite
some time. The last couple of months have been spent trekking the great forests
in our region, chanting great Orca hymns under the moon light, searching for
guidance.

"It is what we have to do in order to write you all a classical masterpiece of
epic proportions. We have a couple songs in the works that are well underway to
being completed. In fact we just finished recording a demo with A.J.

"Finally, we want to go ahead and finish off by thanking you guys, the fans,
that allow us to travel and share our music worldwide. Frank Herbert once said,
'Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper
must awaken.'"

"Counting Down The Days", the latest video from Los THE HUMAN ABSTRACT, can be
viewed below. The song comes off the band's sophomore full-length album,
"Midheaven", which came out in August 2008 via Hopeless Records. The CD "follows
a full cycle of man while he makes his ascent and discoveries and is eventually
brought down by his lust of conquest and greed," said Ells at the time of the
album's release. "Basically we wanted to have this album be cohesive all the way
through. We came up with themes for each song and then wrote the songs like we
were doing a film score and try to capture the mood musically for what each
theme represents."

Although the initial sessions for "Midheaven" were helmed by veteran producer
Toby Wright (METALLICA, SLAYER, ALICE IN CHAINS, SOULFLY, FEAR FACTORY), the CD
was completed with a different producer and Wright's name was "wiped off all
credits," according to drummer Brett Powell.

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT's Hopeless Records debut, "Nocturne", was released in August
2006.

Israel's progressive folk metal masters ORPHANED LAND will release their highly
anticipated fourth studio opus, "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR", in Europe
on January 25, 2010 and in the U.S. on February 9 via Century Media Records.
Mixed by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE, OPETH), who is also responsible for
several keyboard parts on the new CD, the effort is a sophisticated concept
album which takes ORPHANED LAND's unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring
new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness.

"The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR" track listing:

Part I: Godfrey's Cordial – An ORphan's Life

01. Sapari
02. From Broken Vessels
03. Bereft In The Abyss
04. The Path Part 1 – Treading Through Darkness
05. The Path Part 2 – The Pilgrimage To Or Shalem
06. Olat Ha'tamid

Part II: Lips Acquire stains – The WarriOR Awakens

07. The Warrior
08. His Leaf Shall Not Wither
09. Disciples Of The Sacred Oath II
10. New Jerusalem
11. Vayehi Or
12. M I ?

Part III: Barakah – Enlightening The Cimmerian

13. Barakah
14. Codeword: uprising
15. In Thy Never Ending Way (Epilogue)

Vocalist Kobi Farhi comments on the album's concept and the striking new promo
photo (see below): "First of all, I wish to thank each and every one of you for
all the comments you left for our new band photo. The comments were from Jews,
Christians and Muslims as one. You all know that this unification is what we're
all about.

"'The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR' is a concept album revolving around a hero:
the warrior of light. This hero isn't someone specific, but could be the
listener of the album himself, as this album deals with the problems we are
facing in our lives every day. Especially here, in the Middle East, we feel that
we are trapped in a loop of confusion and darkness. Living in this region, we
see that year after year nothing changes. People continue to die in useless wars
and we are trapped in a bloody circle. ORPHANED LAND has been around for 18
years and we continue to sing about the same subjects and stories, because after
18 years we are still living in a tragic, orphaned land. To fight this tragedy
we have chosen a peaceful, yet powerful weapon: our music."

Farhi previously stated about the upcoming CD: "As people that were born into
the tragedy of our region, we have always been devoted to creating harmony
between conflicts, a musical heaven on earth, a tango between God and Satan.
Even in the album's artwork we combined Hebrew and Arabic, regardless of the
fight between Jews and Muslims. I found a Jordanian guy, specialized in
calligraphic artwork. He took letters from Hebrew and Arabic and moulded them in
his art to create a symbol of peace. Same goes for our band photo, where we
portrayed a synergy between the three monotheistic religions that believe in the
same God and yet ridiculously have been killing each other for centuries 'in the
name of God' and turned the holy land into an orphaned land. Naturally, we
continued this idea of union on a musical level as well and the result is as
always crazy, it's a miracle — in our concerts: our Jewish fans sing in Arabic
and our Muslim fans sing in Hebrew,
brave friendships have spawned and our Middle Eastern metal music destroys all
this political witchcraft we have been trapped in for so long. This is a musical
journey of hope in lands of war, creating heaven on earth, building a new
Jerusalem."

An audio teaser for "The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR" is available for
streaming on the band's official web site.

Subject: GENTLE GIANT Guitarist To Appear Live On Long Live Rock This Sunday

BW&BK has received the following press release:

GENTLE GIANT guitarist Gary Green has been confirmed as the guest for Long Live
Rock on Sunday, November 15th at 8:00pm EST / 7:00pm Central. Green will join
hosts Sterling Whitaker (www.wewillrockyoublog.com) and Jeb Wright
(www.classicrockrevisited.com) to talk about Gentle Giant's recent digital
remasters and take some listener calls. The show streams live on Blog Talk Radio
and will also be available afterward for streaming and download. Fans can call
in to the show and speak to Gary Green live.

Gentle Giant is regarded by many as one of the world's most underrated rock
bands. From 1970 to 1980 Gentle Giant released a string of musically adventurous
albums that challenged the preconceptions of the rock genre while earning the
band a rabidly loyal following. Though the band never achieved the same degree
of commercial success as its progressive rock contemporaries like ELP, YES,
GENESIS or JETHRO TULL, Gentle Giant retains a fanatical cult-like audience
almost forty years after the release of its first album. On November 3rd Gentle
Giant released In A Glass House, The Power and the Glory, Free Hand, Interview,
Playing The Fool, The Missing Piece, and Giant For A Day through all digital
channels. The albums are re-mastered and each one features several tracks from
either live concerts or live radio sessions.

Gary Green played on all of Gentle Giant's albums and tours. In recent years he
has recorded with Billy Sherwood on a number of projects, and in 2009 Green
formed a new band called Three Friends with other former Gentle Giant members,
performing the music of Gentle Giant. He will be discussing the digital
releases, his career with Gentle Giant and Three Friends, and taking listener
calls. The show will stream live at this locationand fans can call (347)
637-3446 with questions for Gary Green.

As previously reported, Long Live Rock is a live call-in show featuring
interviews with some of the greatest rock musicians in the world. The show is a
joint venture between two hosts who are already familiar to classic rock fans.
Sterling Whitaker is a music journalist and the author of two books; Unsung
Heroes of Rock Guitar in 2003, and 2007's The Grand Delusion: The Unauthorized
True Story of Styx, which was an Amazon bestseller and garnered rave reviews in
Classic Rock Magazine, Goldmine, Record Collector and many online media outlets.
Whitaker has appeared as a guest on VH1, BBC Radio, and radio all over North
America, and also hosts the popular podcast We Will Rock You).

Jeb Wright is one of the best-known and most respected interviewers in the
genre. As the founder and editor of Classic Rock Revisited, over the last ten
years Wright has interviewed a Who's Who of rock and metal artists. He conducts
the Jumbotron interviews for the Moondance Jam every year, and in 2009 Wright
celebrated the first decade of Classic Rock Revisited by releasing his first
book, From The Vaults Series I: Stadium Rock.

Subject: Progressive Rockers THE WISHING TREE To Release New Album In North America In January

BraveWords.com has received the following press release:

It has been ten years since progressive rock band THE WISHING TREE released
their debut album, Carnival Of Souls. On January 19th, Eagle Rock Entertainment
will release their lush and evocative new album Ostara in North America.

MARILLION guitarist Steve Rothery founded The Wishing Tree. Formed in 1996,
Rothery’s desire to start an acoustic music project with a female vocalist led
him to British singer Hannah Stobart. The two started writing together, crafting
a wistful, gorgeous sound that is both haunting and soothing. This new CD,
produced and engineered by Rothery, not only boasts eight original songs, but
two bonus live tracks, 'Fly' and 'Ostara'.

Unique in its conception, Ostara was written and recorded on opposite sides of
the world, with Stobert working from her home in California and Rothery in his
home studio in Buckinghamshire, England.

Joined by drummer Paul Craddick (of ENCHANT, and Hannah’s husband), Ostara is
the perfect marriage of Stobart’s angelic, lilting vocals and Rothery’s
superb guitar work. A master at his craft, his harmonies are understated when
necessary, allowing Stobart’s vocals to take precedence, yet when given the
chance, his trademark solos truly sing out in the mix of this enchanting blend.
The delicate, ghostly harmonies, executed on mandolin as well as guitar, paired
with Stobart’s soaring melodies, result in artwork that is truly a listening
experience.

Fans of Steve Rothery will also enjoy Marillion’s latest CD, Less Is More,
released December 8th via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Ostara tracklisting:

'Ostara'
'Easy'
'Hollow Hills'
'Seventh Sigh'
'Falling'
'Fly'
'Kingfisher'
'Soldier'

Bonus Tracks:
'Fly' (live)
