Hi there, after listening to the mp3 several times ( very distorted
recording I must say ) my opinion is that it is an EX-1 that is
being played there. You are correct that it definatly not an EX-42.
There are too many synthy type tones in the lead voice for it to be
a 42. However, the drums are most certainly Yamaha 70s style ( IE
Lousy ! ) You can also tell that it has to be a Electone that has
the ABC feature, because the pedal bass line is too perfect . The
EX-1 is the first model to have that feature.
I believe the production dates for the EX-1 are from 1977 to 1982.
That is the second generation of the Stage Model series. It uses a
lot of the technology from the famed GX-1, but in a more user
friendly format with more tones being preset. As I am sure you know,
these were designed for entertainers playing in clubs and lounges
and so on.
I have to say that of all the Stage Models Yamaha ever produced, the
EX-1 is the one that I really did not like as far as tone quality
and features goes, even when it was brand new. And yes, I was around
back then ! I thought that they could have skipped that one
entirely and went from the EX-42 right to the FX-1.
So, thats my opinion anyways. Regards, Larry ( an Old Timer and
owner of two EX-42s and an FX-1 )
