Hi Don,
I think you've made a great decision buying the HX-1, but you should
also consider also using its internal sounds along with your other
gear as they are quite expressive and will most certainly add some
very nice "colors" to your mix.
Now, to answer your questions:
1. As far as I know, there is no way of "splitting" the lower manual.
2. There are several ways to give you your result:
a. The HX has an "Ensemble" section enabling/disabling sound
groups,
you can simply disable all - and you'll get your result.
b. In addition, every sound has it's own volume, thus you can
also get
the same result by setting the volume to 0 for each sound.
c. In addition, as the expression/volume pedal of the HX can be
set to
have no control over the MIDI-connected instruments (as I
recall it's
its default setting), and you can simply raise it to get
silence.
d. In addition you also have a "Master volume" on the right to
give you
the same effect if you set it to 0 (all the way CCS).
Hope this info will help you, and I wish you have many pleasant
hours playing this wonderful instrument.
Yours,
James Cohen - Israel
