James,
Can I beg to differ (slightly). Having owned an HE8, whilst it has some
"nice" organ sounds, there is not much variety and limited scope for
changing them during performance. I guess that a lot depends on what type of
"organ" (clasical/electronic/hammond) sounds you are looking for. If its
electronic/hammond then the built in drawer bars in the EL series makes
setting up "Hammond" sounds so much easier. Not sure if the Yamaha has the
discordances of the Hammond original, but certainly on the El70 and EL90 you
can tweak the settings whilst paying, something's which can't be done on a
HS, HE or HC series instrument (not sure about the HX). Also if you want to
play "live" (as opposed to "programmed") the the El's score highly over the
HE/HS..
Having said all that I still know plenty of folks with HS-8s and they are
splendid instruments, But I don't think I would consider less than an HS-8,
with disk drive (or a large number of RAM pack) and preferably with CVS10
drawer bar expander.
Dave.

Hi Malc,
I think that in your last comment you really scored..
If organ sounds + Tremolo (poor Lesley effect) is what you're
looking for, then you should really try the good-old Yamaha H range
(HE-8,HS,HX).
The Organ/Combination/Flutes sounds are pretty much the same in both
H ans EL series, and you can save a few dollars in the process
without compromising on quality/variety.
I recommend you give it a try and rather sure you won't be
disappointed..
Another thing,
If the good-old Hammond B-3 has an effect on you and you can't
afford it , and that's the main reason for you to try compromising
on the EL-15/40/60 or whatever, might I suggest you try other
companies' products as well, as organ sounds are not the "strong
side" of the Yamaha electones, even though they are quite good..
