good advice, mark.
to the OP: although not recommended, if you want your songs to sound coherent or
consistent in levels, slap a software compressor on your host's master buss but
with subtle compression. never use a limiter, because as you know (or dont know)
a limiter is a compression with extreme settings.
i would just leave your setup or songs as it is. you dont want your mix to sound
squashed. let the FOH do their thing. let them adjust the volume if needed. your
job is to concentrate on the quality of your dj sets/songs/performance and not
loudness. if you're placing a hardware compressor/limiter (for live use)
thinking for that extra loudness then that's wrong audio mentality, imo.
