Piano-pop titans Elton John and Billy Joel have postponed their “Face 2 Face” concert at the Pepsi Center on Sunday until Feb. 22, promoter AEG Live announced today. All previously-purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show and refunds are available at point of purchase, likely tickethorse.com or the Pepsi Center box office.

The postponement should come as no surprise to fans who have watched the tour’s troubled-plagued progress the last few months. Multiple dates have been canceled or postponed due to illness on the part of both performers, including tomorrow night’s Salt Lake City show. But as recently as yesterday, an official at AEG confirmed that the Denver show was still on, indicating that the promoters were taken by surprise too.

John has recently battled influenza and an e-coli infection, and Joel took his turn by postponing and canceling shows due to an undisclosed illness (fatigue, according to one report).

Sunday’s concert was announced with much fanfare in October, including an early-morning press conference with Mayor John Hickenlooper and AEG honcho Chuck Morris. John and Joel last played the Pepsi Center together in April 2001.

For some reason, people kept coming up to me at the Elton John Aids Foundation benefit and auction at the downtown Cipriani Monday night asking me if I had seen Bill Clinton. Apparently, he was late. Now I’m no political fundraiser, but in my YSL sequin dress, it wasn’t hard to imagine that Mr. President might be interested in keeping my vodka refilled for the night. I mean, were it not for the fact that once he arrived he kept company with the likes of Sharon Stone it might have seemed plausible that a slippery slope from the White House might land a President in my lap for the night. But since when am I in possession of state secrets? I may typically have the best shoes in the house but that doesn’t make me Clint Eastwood in In The Line of Fire.
 
I knew there was a crack in the space time continuum however, when I found myself with the boyfriend of the director of Grey Gardens in the coat check trying to find the smoking section and the Secret Service escorted us back into the main hall. Clinton arrives through coat check? Now I know where to hang out if I want to get appointed to a President’s council! Off went my imagination about the possibilities of a run in, but alas, once there, he was too busy chatting with his tablemates Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, who like Clinton also received an award for their charitable good works, to notice little ole me. Perhaps I should have passed him a note!

Stone looked drop dead gorgeous in her Christian Dior couture dress (who is her doctor, btw?), but I have to say I was most in awe of Lynn Wyatt in a gold charmeuse bias cut dress. The night’s auction brought in some big-ticket items that contributed to the two million dollar kitty. Someone paid $300,000 for a day with Bill Clinton after Courtney Love got the bidding off to a modest start when she lept up and offered $20,000. Can you imagine being a fly in the sauce of that picadillo? Love, for her part, is trying to be a fashion designer, so she told me at a party earlier this year. Fortunately, there were more important people like Emily Blunt at her side for her to talk to so this time I happily went ignored. Though I probably should have told her the tag was showing on the dress she borrowed for the night. Oh well. I say if its okay for Minnie Pearl, it's okay for Courtney Love.
 
Hey! Did anyone know that MAC has raised over 11 million dollars for AIDS treatment and prevention with their VIVA glam lipstick sales? Hello. I was almost as impressed by the William Klein photo that raised $45,000 and the concert pic of Sir Elton that garnered $40,000. But I found myself uttering a rather loud “Whoa Nellie!” when a polo lesson went on the block with Nacho Figueras. I can count to five with my hoof for some of that! (Back of the line Mr. Ed.) I tried raising the arms of a few friends at tables nearby to enlist them in a tutelage ensemble to no avail. Oh well, the rich and famous always get first dibs and I went home satisfied with Donna Summer’s performance happily bouncing around my head as a conciliation prize. All jokes aside, for a charity event as important as this, the real prize was money raised and lives saved. Well worth a night out, indeed.

Elton John Won't Reschedule Canceled Shows

 
Elton John has been forced to cancel several shows due to illness, reports NME. The singer has now confirmed reports that he will not be rescheduling the canceled shows, and is offering his fans a full refund.

The singer was hospitalized with a combination of the flu and E coli poisoning in early November. The singer is recovering, but the promoter for his Red Piano tour in the UK said that it was not possible for the dates to be rescheduled due to venue availability. October dates in Sheffield, Newcastle, London, and Liverpool are the ones left out in the cold.

Ticket holders are able to get a full refund at the point of purchase.

Cancelled: Elton John at the O2 Fully cancelled

Elton John's postponed gig has now been fully (and officially) cancelled. Thus there won't be a new date in December as expected. You can get a full refund on your tickets at point of purchase.

Elton was meant to be playing the O2 on October 30th, but cancelled due to illness.

NEW YORK — Elton John says he’s back on his feet after being sidelined for the flu and an E. coli bacterial infection.

The entertainer spoke about his recovery before Monday’s annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which honored former President Bill Clinton and Sharon Stone among others.

“The worst thing about being in the hospital was that, actually, it’s the first time I’ve been in bed for about nine days in the whole of my life, except for maybe when I had my tonsils out,” he said. “So, I was all right. I had a good rest; I didn’t expect it. The worst thing was having to cancel shows. I hate that. But I’m back on my feet and I’m bouncing around now.”

The event, entitled “An Enduring Vision,” honored Clinton, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Lily Safra and Stone.

Stone called John “a legendary performer and … spectacular person.”

“(He’s) not always easy because he’s true and honest and he really is passionate and he really does care,” she said. “There isn’t any time that I wouldn’t show up for him. He’s the real thing.”

The Elton John AIDS Foundation in part aims to fund innovative HIV prevention programs and to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

John said the current economic crisis makes his work harder, but stressed that the need to continue in the fight against the disease.

“We are in a bad time economically and everybody’s vying for attention … we mustn’t let AIDS get onto the back seat,” he said. “It’s very important that it stays in the forefront of our attention because it’s a disease that’s not going away. In fact it’s really increasing in a lot of areas.”

The evening’s honorees also stressed the need to continue raising funds.

“Look down at your shoes,” Stone said to the audience inside. “If you’re wearing those shoes, you’ve got twice as much to give.”

ELTON JOHN\’s E.coli infection and flu symptoms have prompted the Rocket Man to scrap a weekend show in California.

The pop pianist and touring partner Billy Joel were hoping to bring their Face 2 Face Tour to the Oracle Arena in Oakland on Saturday night (14Nov09), but Elton is still too sick to perform.

He scrapped a handful of concerts in the U.K. after falling ill at the beginning of November (09), when he was briefly hospitalised in London.

A statement on the star’s website reads, “Elton has been out of hospital for several days now. He is making a good recovery, but he is not yet quite well enough to perform.”

It is still not known if Elton and Joel’s upcoming show at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on 17 November (09) will go ahead.

And his aides are not ruling out the possibility that he could make his first public appearance since his illness at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Enduring Vision event in New York City on Monday (16Nov09).

Elton John, Billy Joel tour kept off the road by ongoing illness

Ongoing health concerns have caused yet another postponement for Elton John and Billy Joel. The piano-rocking duo's Face 2 Face Tour will remain off the road through the weekend as John continues his recovery from an E. coli infection and a case of influenza.

A November 14 concert at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA, is the most recent to face postponement in the wake of John's illness. The performer was initially forced to postpone three shows on November 4 and 7 in Seattle, WA, and November 10 in Portland, OR.

The 62-year-old musician is reportedly battling a "serious case" of infection and flu, and was briefly hospitalized in London at the start of the month.

"Elton has been out of hospital for several days now," said a November 12 statement on John's official Web site. "He is making a good recovery, but he is not yet quite well enough to perform."

All four postponed shows will be rescheduled, though new dates have not yet been established. Ticket holders are being advised to retain their tickets pending further information about the performances.

The next Face 2 Face concert on the calendar is coming up on November 17 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. However, John could make his first public appearance before then. The musician is scheduled to attend the Elton John AIDS Foundation's "Enduring Vision" event in New York City on November 16.

John and Joel's late fall tour leg was originally booked through December 7 at Times Union Center in Albany, NY. It is not yet known whether the pair will complete their four postponed shows before the end of this year, or whether those dates will be added to their 2010 itinerary for North America.

Elton John on mend, resuming tour dates

Elton John has been released from a London hospital after being treated for flu and an E. coli bacterial infection. The singer's spokesman Gary Farrow says John was at home and was feeling fine.

Farrow says John planned to resume his suspended tour and would play scheduled U.S. dates with Billy Joel starting in Oakland, California on Nov. 14.

John and Joel are scheduled to perform Dec. 4 at HSBC Arena, Buffalo, a show that was rescheduled from this summer at Joel canceled several shows after coming down with flu-like symptoms.

Illness forced John, 62, to cancel several gigs in Britain, Ireland and the U.S. over the last few weeks.

Watford FC claim attempts to sell over-priced tickets for next summer’s Sir Elton John concert on eBay are in “incredibly poor taste”.

The former Watford chairman is holding the benefit concert to raise money for the cash-strapped club but that hasn’t stopped people putting tickets on online auction site eBay for more than double their face value.

One is attempting to sell two tickets with a combined worth of Ł200 for Ł500 and another is asking for Ł999 for two tickets, a hotel room and a "goody bag".

Watford FC’s head of customer sales Michael Jones said: “The sellers are breaking the terms and conditions of sale imposed by Watford FC and at this stage we do not intend to mail out the tickets in question.

“Whilst not contravening the rules of ticket sales on eBay, we believe the attempt to sell these tickets for profit is in incredibly poor taste when you consider that Sir Elton is putting on this benefit concert to raise money for the football club.

“That said, we shouldn’t allow the actions of two individuals to over shadow what has been a very successful sales process and with thousands of tickets being available for general sale at face value, we don’t believe they will achieve their aim for profit anyway.”

More than 8,000 tickets for the concert were sold in the first two hours on Monday.

Watford FC season ticket holders were given priority on Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the ‘Watford FC database’ have the chance to purchase as many as 20 tickets today and tomorrow.

The capacity for the May 29 concert, at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road Stadium, is 23,000 and the club are confident there will still be seats available when tickets go on general sale on Friday.

Reported by the Oakland Tribune:

The sold-out "Face 2 Face" concert, starring Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Elton John and Billy Joel show, scheduled for Saturday at Oracle Arena in Oakland has been postponed. The change was made to allow John to recover from illness.

The 62-year-old John has been battling a serious case of e-coli bacterial infection and influenza and been advised by his doctor to postpone this Oakland concert, according to promoter Live Nation.

Organizers are working to set a make-up date for the concert. All ticket-holders are being asked to hold on to their tickets until more information is available regarding the proposed rescheduled engagement.

Elton John is expected to recover in time by his Nov. 20 concert in Salt Lake City. Let's hope.

The two piano men are still set to appear Tuesday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Tickets are still available for that performance. See www.ticketmaster.com</a>.

Elton John has postponed a concert scheduled for Saturday at the Oracle Arena in Oakland because of a bacterial infection and influenza, said promoter Live Nation. This week the 62-year-old singer announced that he was ready to resume his trouble-plagued tour with Billy Joel. November dates in Seattle and Portland were canceled, while the first leg of their tour was scrapped when Joel, 60, complained of fatigue.
