can you believe Alexander Zonjic is so afraid of Motuphi shadowing
his music that he actually held a "Jazzfest" without the most
notorious underground Jazz musician of all time even on the roster?
It's bad enough that WVMV doesn't play anything from Motuphi (aka
Blahz-A Splee aka: Saile, which means "in the know" in Italian or
some shit), namely: "We Were B4" from the "Thuggin' by TROLLOP"
release (the one that sold over 2 million copies by word of mouth,
without a second of airplay, not even available on the shelves
because it wasn't "finished"). Detroit underground fans, fed-up with
the sell-outs the majors threw at them, sought out aand purchased
the CD that "didn't exist" (well, now, it doesn't, because it sold
out and they never pressed any more). A tribute to the "god among
men" himself: Motuphi.
On a sad note, Saile never made a dime from those bootlegs (the
assholes took the money and ran, leaving Motuphi in the same spot he
was in before they swooped into his life to rape him of some of his
best music ever). You'll never get it across to the kids who liked
all those kiddie acts that came out of Detroit over the past 10
years that they was all bitin' on Motuphi (his style, his looks, his
sounds, his methods of operation<>except they don't "give back" to
the community like Motuphi did). Yeah, they was all "wannabes"
(wannabe Motuphi, the god from the streets of Detroit who actually
did run gangs on the streets and decided that it was a whack
atmosphere to operate from), cheap copies of the original the "man"
didn't want their young asses to hear about. One day, the story will
be told in a movie and THEN those same lame-assed impressionable
kids will all be lookin' at HIM like they do Eminem and Kid Rock and
the others who ain't even worth a mention in this article.
These "artists" may've lived in or around Detroit, cruise through
Detroit and even do business in Detroit, that doesn't
make 'em "Detroiters" any more than living in Israel makes someone
a "Jew". Sorry. I'm pure Detroit. I'll stick with Saile aka Blahz-A
Splee aka MO (as in "motown") tuphi.
