I'm a brand new member, i'm going to receive a brand new PX-7
Command Station (i Hope, i ordered on-line and FORTUNATELY i chose
the "pay at delivery" method ... ehehe in any case my money should
be safe ...;-)!)... I chose it because a need a powerful sequencer
for my live performances, i've got some "external" sound modules and
old monophonic "midi-fied" synths to drive ... I really hope i will
enjoy my choice, i had a ROland MC-909 sampling groovebox BUT i sold
it very soon ... i've been very disappointed by its sequencer that
really SUCKS :-( and its bugs ... I wish you an HAPPY NEW YEAR ...
Best regards
M.

Welcome to the group, please let us know if there are any specific
questions or file you would like.
I love the xx-7 series sequencers with the ease of use and ability to
record realtime, grid, and step. It sounds like you will also be
getting plenty of use from the multisetups and programmable knobs. I
have recently added the DRUM rom that ships with the PX-7 to my MP-7
and really love it. I am not sure what kind of music you work with,
but there are some great DRUM presets and many of the other sounds
work quiet well in the mix. I have also listened through the PX
patterns and it really comes with a nice variety that illustrate this
superb drum rom in a variety of styles.

Thanx a lot for your welcome ... I JUST received my brand new PX-7 with the 2.0 Version of its OS ... I'm starting to study its huge manual ... BUT maybe you can immediately give me a suggestion : Let's suppose that the command station is playing a 8-bar (or 4-bar, or whatever) pattern "X", how can i switch to another pattern "Y" (without stopping the instrument, of course) and make it start at the beginning of the incoming bar REGARDLESS the length of "X", i.e. without waiting for X playing ist entire length ?  I knew for other sequencer-related forums that this is possible with command stations (whiole it is not with Roland MC series), and this is VERY important for my way of "working" live ...
OK, Thank in advance ... i'm going to put my attention on the manual ...
Best Regards
M.

You can position th cursor under the loop bars and
adjust the length of the loop(pattern) playing
although this will not take effect until the cycle.
The next pattern will then start at the beginning. The
x mix mode is very useful in pattern mode, but will
pick up the added tracks at that point in the pattern.

... Thanx for your suggestion ... i'm also experimenting the use of the loop section to switch from on pattern to another ... I''l try to maxe an example : While a 8-BAR pattern "A" is playing, i activate the loop mode (i really LOVE e-mu multifunction buttons philosophy :-)!), setting the "From" point to the 1st bar, then wait for the beginning of the 7nth bar and set the "Thru" point to it, and also select the next pattern (trigger buttons!!!) ... This selection toggles off the loop mode BUT i immediately re-activate it ... the next pattern (a 1-bar "fill-in" pattern for example) will start at the end of the 7nth. bar,  i.e. it will replace the 8th bar of "A" ... THAT was my goal ...:-) !!! A little complicated maybe ..(?) ... BUT it works !!!  In any case, i'm discovering multichannel tracks, beats mode and other features that give you many chances of "improvising" with live sequencing ... cool, very cool :-)  I cross my fingers, my px-7 arrived just 3 days ago and i have to learn and to try so many thing ... BUT now i feel very happy and satisfied ...
My music ? hmm ... i'm building a "project-band" with a guitarist/sound designer and a female lead voice, trying to create some electro-dance-alternative-drum 'n' bass-pop/rock sound ... a little bit pretentious, don't you think ? Ehehe ... Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Underworld, Daft Punk are my favourites, and i also love jungle-drum 'n' bass   ... KRAFTWERK are my "EVERLASTING IDOLS" BUT i don't want to imitate anything ...
Best regards !

Hi Tom (I think)

I joined the group yesterday and tried downloading some if the
midifiles for a bit of a look. I find that I get some of the file
downloaded then I keep alternating between "Waiting for connection"
& "Connecting". On other files - I get prompted for a user name and
password. So, I don't seem to be able to access anything inhte
directory. I don't experience these issues with any other sites so I
suspect it's a Yahoo problem

Anyhow - I just thought I' add my 2 cents worth of experience for
you.

Looking forward to getting access

Regards, Peter

My guess would be yahoo as well. When we first opened this board
there were lots of problems. Although yahoo has the files section
they do not seem to be prepared for it to be used very much. Which
by the way is the primary focus of this group. This is why I put the
most popular files in the new members email. Did you receive that ok?
As for the others I can only suggest that you try back. I contacted
yahoo as an administrator for assistance or knowledge in this area
but received no reply. I am moving in the morning. As soon as I can
get my studio pc back on line I plan on uploading some of my user
patterns for a groove exchange since e-mu no longer has one. If you
have any interesting patterns you would like to share. Please do.
Good luck and best wishes,

First of all I highly recommend working through the manual. Although
it will not get you everywhere, it will unleash some amazing
potential while sparking creativity. For each pattern you can set
whether the track is transmitted internal external or both if you are
wanting to play the patterns to an external device. If your not going
to read the manual scroll thru the midi and command menus and then
the pattern menus and if your up for it try the preset menus as well
this will give you a good idea of where to go for different
functions.

Are the ROMs used in the PX series compatible with the other P2000 ,
2500, etc ? That seems cheap compared the the prices I've seen for
P2500 stuff!

I've had a pk-6 for a while, so i was pretty similar with many of
the functions (Preset Edit, MIDI, Global) and menus. Anyways, I
still dont see how to do this.

Download midi file to your favorite Music notation or sequencing program and edit away.
I use Encore (a precursor of Finale, sort of)

You can use the swing/quantize to do this. This is a permanent
change if you save the pattern afterward. You might want to first
duplicate the pattern and then you can switch to the alternate
pattern for your build/breakdowns. Unless you are using computer
sequencers in which case refer to the previos reply.

Yes these roms are for the entire proteus family. **_7's orbits,
planet phatt, earth, proteus 2000, proteus 2500,... And yes these
prices are cheap, I only offer them to the boards/forums. Are you a
2500 user?

I will check for the specifics the next time I am with my e-mu.
There is the master transmit notes and transmit knobs and then there
is another place where you can dictate where each channel trans mits
to int. ext. or both.
  Best of Luck,
         Tom
PS what happpened to the pk-6?

Pattern: scroll to channel assign then set each channel int. ext. or
both. Ext. just to control outside.

Next
midi: scroll to "keyboard outputs" adjust settings then "knob
outputs" and adjust accordingly.

Hi,
What are peoples opinions about using an orbit v2 in conjunction with a px-7?
Would there be overlapping sounds (like would all the drums/synth ect be
mostly of the same sort on both units?)

Also, do the command stations work well with softsynths like Reason or
samplers like Acid 4?

Thanks

I have the drum rom and the orbit set (beat & TSCY) I think you would be well off with the combo. The drum kits on the drum rom are far superior to the others.
rEalm has multisetups in the files szection of the XL-7 groups to control certain reason parameters via the commnad stationsn if that is the angle you want. If you are talking about controlling the command station any midi sequencer should work fine. If you do not already on the orbit then you would be just as well if not better just to add the roms to your px-7. (more control) That is if you are using your command as master controller.

Need some advice guys. E-loader doesn't work on Mac OsX, E-mu say they're not
working on MAc OSX version. Anyone know of a way of editing sounds etc using
Logics environments?
Thanks.
