Ben Evans from Lawdit.co.uk has posted the following commentary regarding the
BLACK SABBATH internal trademark dispute:
Lead singer OZZY OSBOURNE is reportedly suing the band's guitarist Tony Iommi
over the rights to the bands name. Iommi registered Black Sabbath as a trade
mark in the US in 2000 and claims that when Osbourne left the band in the 1980's
he relinquished any rights he had in the band's name.
"Tony, I am so sorry it's had to get to this point by me having to take this
action against you,".
"We've all worked too hard and long in our careers to allow you to sell
merchandise that features all our faces, old Black Sabbath album covers and band
logos, and then you tell us that you own the copyright."
Osbourne reportedly want's the original band members to share Black Sabbath's
name equally: "I hope that by me taking this first step that it will ultimately
end up that way." However, at present it seems he is seeking 50% ownership.
Interestingly enough this dispute bears remarkable similarities to the case of
Peter Byford v (1) Graham Oliver (2) Steven Dawson (2003) which related to the
metal band SAXON. In this case the line-up of the band had been constantly
changing and on leaving the band in 1985 and 1995 respectively Oliver and Dawson
registered the name as a trademark. It was held that the band was a partnership
at will and as such all rights in the name of the band were owned by the members
jointly, where a member left the band and was replaced then the name and
goodwill belonged to the successive partnerships.
If the claim was brought in the UK then applying the Saxon case (presuming there
is no band agreement) it would seem likely that the trademark will be deemed to
belong to the current band line up, which incidentally is back to the original
1968 line-up.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde has told Noisecreep that the
band's upcoming summer tour with STATIC-X and MUDVAYNE will be a six-group
package, also featuring SEVENTH VOID (the band featuring TYPE O NEGATIVE
guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly) and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH.
The trek is expected to kick off in late July.
Zakk performed the American national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner", this
past Friday (May 29) in Denver, Colorado, at game six of the NBA playoffs
between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
"It was fucking slamming," Wylde told Noisecreep of the experience. "I always
love doing them. It's definitely a fucking rush all the time. As soon as you're
closing in on the end of the thing, you have 20,000 people going fucking nuts.
It's fucking awesome.
"I do them all the time. I do it live every night in my guitar solo. I've been
doing it for years. It's not a big deal. I love playing it. I've done it for the
Rangers, the Kings, the Dodgers, fucking Mets, Portland Trailblazers — hockey
and basketball and baseball. I just love sports. Baseball, football, fucking
boxing, hockey, the whole thing."
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's "Skullage" DVD package sold 5,100 copies in the United
States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on the Top Music
Videos chart. Released April 21 in three different configurations — CD, DVD
and CD/DVD — this collection features the best of Zakk Wylde & Co. This
massive greatest hits package is chock-full of live material, music videos,
interviews, and a vivid cross-section of brutal and introspective tracks, from
amped-up blazers like "Fire It Up" and "Suicide Messiah" to raw power ballads
like "In This River" and "Spoke In The Wheel".
Los Angeles metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have been forced to cancel a
series of June dates in Europe due a combination of events; these involve both
personal matters plus the necessity to finish mixing the tracks for second
studio album, "War Is The Answer", due to be released worldwide in late August.
Commented the band: "In terms of the recording side, we were keen to work with
Randy Staub (who has mixed METALLICA, STONE SOUR, and many more) on the album
mixes, but due to Randy's tight schedule, [we] were only able to secure his
services at a time that makes it impossible for the tour to take place. We
apologize to our Europeans fans for the change in schedule, but promise to be
back for a full run of dates this fall."
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will still be playing the Download festival on June 13
at Donington Park, United Kingdom. However, this is the only date the band could
keep on this current run due to the above-mentioned conflicts.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory recently stated about the
band's upcoming sophomore album, "The new record has been co-produced by Kevin
Churko, who was heavily involved with OZZY's [OSBOURNE] 'Black Rain' album.
"In terms of the overall style, I would say that we've continued the journey we
started on the first album, so there's a healthy balance of melody and
aggression, and as always we concentrated on writing strong metal songs in the
traditional sense. There's some epic moments on the record, and there's some
straight-up home-wreckers, too. All I can say is, those who liked our first
album are going to LOVE this one!"
Bathory told The Pulse of Radio that he wasn't worried about coming up with
material for the band's second studio effort. "We have a lot to say," he said.
"I tell you what, we're not going to be hurting for material for a long time
probably. We have like three, four albums worth of stuff. So it's not gonna be
an issue. It's pretty much just the mechanical part of like, you know, like
properly recording the songs. You have to go to a good studio, you know what I
mean, you have to spend some time. But all the material, yeah, we have a lot of
stuff."
The band's next album will follow up its 2007 debut, "The Way Of The Fist",
which has sold 328,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen
SoundScan.
The CD produced three singles, including "Stranger Than Fiction" and "Never
Enough".
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH did confirm the departure of guitarist Darrell Roberts
in January, replacing him with former ALICE COOPER axeman Jason Hook.
AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer dropped by Boston's WZLX
today (Tuesday, June 2) and talked about their upcoming tour with ZZ TOP, their
new album (they have nine songs recorded including one track called 'Meltdown')
and revealed that they will play the whole Toys In The Attic album confirming
ongoing rumours.
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash will be joined
by the following "special guests" during his headlining appearance at this
year's edition of the Quart festival on June 30 in Kristiansand, Norway:
Ron Wood (THE ROLLING STONES)
Ozzy Osbourne (BLACK SABBATH)
Fergie (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson of BLACK EYED PEAS)
Slash's band will consist of the following musicians:
Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) - Drums
Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) - Bass
John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON) - Guitar
Franky Perez (SCARS ON BROADWAY) - Guitar
Teddy Andreadis (GUNS N' ROSES, ALICE COOPER) - Piano/Harmonica
Slash previously played with Ozzy at the 77th Royal Variety Performance in
November 2005 in Cardiff. They performed a version of THE BEATLES classic "In My
Life", with family photographs projected onto the background of the stage.
Slash left GUNS N' ROSES in the mid-'90s, forming SLASH'S SNAKEPIT before later
assembling VELVET REVOLVER with several other ex-members of GUNS N' ROSES and
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland.
VELVET REVOLVER is currently searching for a replacement for Weiland, who was
dismissed in April 2008.
DUFF McKAGAN’s LOADED, featuring VELVET REVOLVER /ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist
Duff McKagan, have issued the following update:
"So after a rather long trip from Des Moines, Iowa to Helsinki (one cancelled
flight and numerous delays? WTF!), this leg of the tour officially started last
night. What a way to start out! Thank you Helsinki for making our first time in
your beautiful country so fucking great. And one very special thank you to the
one and only MICHAEL MONROE - yeah that's right, I said it! Michael Monroe
(HANOI ROCKS, and all around rock and roll figure) for coming out and rocking
'It's So Easy', 'Attitude', and 'New Rose'. You ever seen a man do the splits in
the heat of rock and roll battle? We'll now we have! You were amazing and we
love you. Thanks. Anyway, we got to check out of this hotel and get it moving.
We will keep all of you posted on what kind of insanity happens next. Don't
forget that our record Sick is everywhere, go get it fools!"
BraveWords.com has received the following STONE TEMPLE PILOTS update:
The newly created St. Jude Rock ‘n Roll Hope Show will kick off July 1st at
the House of Blues in Los Angeles, California with rock icons, Stone Temple
Pilots, headlining the first show.
Tickets are set to go on sale to the public on Saturday, June 6th and will
benefit St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research
centers.
The St. Jude Rock ‘n Roll Hope Show is a charity concert event created by the
grandson of St. Jude founder and TV icon Danny Thomas (Make Room For Daddy, The
Danny Thomas Show), musician Jason Thomas Gordon, and digital entrepreneur/music
manager Tom Carolan of Total Live Music. Together, Gordon and Carolan partnered
with Live Nation to bring these remarkable concerts to the House of Blues venues
across the country and beyond. The goal of these very special musical events is
to raise money and awareness for the children of St. Jude.
The inaugural concert for The St. Jude Rock ‘n Roll Hope Show promises nothing
short of excellence with the reunited Stone Temple Pilots performing for the
hope and health of the children of St. Jude.
Since the moment they appeared on the scene in the early 90s, Stone Temple
Pilots dominated the decade from start to finish, racking up 15 singles on the
Billboard Top Ten, winning a “Best Hard Rock Performance” Grammy in 1994 for
'Plush', and having their five albums sell more than 35 million copies
worldwide.
STP singer, SCOTT WEILAND, had this to say about playing the event: “We are
humbled, honored and filled with grace by being given this very special
opportunity. To be asked to play the first of what we all hope will be many of
these events for children in dire medical needs at the St. Jude Rock n Roll
show. Reading the Press Release I am almost embarrassed as it lists accolades of
a life of music. The good life. What the rest speaks of is the horrible but true
realities that those diseases bring to children and these families.
Hope has been found in breast cancer. My mother is a testament to that, but
leukemia and other diseases seem to offer less “statistically”. Let this be
a night of hope and a night of faith and maybe even a little providence.
Couldn’t we all use a little? God knows they should have it all from us on
this special night, or any night. Once again, thank you”
The July 1st concert will open with Jason Thomas Gordon’s band, KINGSIZE. The
L.A.-based rock band recently released a duo of EP’s - The Good Fight, with
their first single 'Miss America', and its sister EP The Bad Night, that
counter-punched with 'Rabbits'.
During the past year, Kingsize has become one of L.A.’s most exciting new live
acts with one of the band’s songs being chosen as the opening theme for CBS
TV’s best new comedy Gary Unmarried.
“St. Jude is a part of my blood in the same way that music has always been. To
bring them together is a great feeling,” said Gordon. “You always hear
people say how music saved their life. A band or a song changed them, healed
them in some way. Well, this is that expression being manifest in a very
physical way. This is rock ‘n roll truly saving lives.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its
pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other
catastrophic diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to
be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute.
Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St.
Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities
around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where
families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever
denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay. St. Jude is
financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland has issued a
statement in response to media reports that his estranged wife, Mary, will
publish a memoir called "Fall To Pieces" on October 27. A press release
describes the book as "a visceral rollercoaster ride inside bipolar disorder,
rock 'n' roll, celebrity culture, and the competitive world of modeling from a
rock star wife and recovering drug addict," adding, "On the surface, Mary
Weiland had a fairy-tale life. She was a highly paid fashion model married to
successful rock star Scott Weiland, the notorious frontman for STONE TEMPLE
PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER. Then came the rampage in a Burbank hotel room and
the resulting media frenzy that revealed to the world her bipolar disorder and
drug abuse."
The press release also states that Mary "describes the extreme highs and lows of
her life" in the book, saying that she tells her story with "refreshing candor,
unflinching detail, and more than a little humor."
Scott's statement, which was issued earlier today (Wednesday, June 3), reads as
follows:
"When I was 16 years old, I dreamed of being a famous rock star. I never knew
what came along with it — the good, the bad, and the straight-up bullshit. I
thought that creating beauty would bring beauty... Not always. At 16, Mary
dreamed of being a famous model. She came close but she gave up her career for
[the couple's kids] Noah, Lucy, and myself. She never got to see the 'what could
have happened.'
"Well, as everyone knows by now, we are getting divorced and yes, Mary is
writing a book which I have not read. But what I want everyone to know that it
has nothing to do with infidelity. Neither the divorce nor the book. Please
don't place the red letter upon my children's mother.
"One last thing... My love for her will never end. We just forgot how to be
friends. She has now chosen a public career and one that brings both accolades
and public scrutiny. There will be more of this sort of thing to deal with as
time goes by... both good and bad.
"Divorce is hell, I remember it well and we deal with it every day. And if you
think about it, we both have our 'what-ifs' and 'why-nots,' but it's no
cheaters' story and all I ask is to not see her cry."
Mary Weiland revealed two years ago that she suffered from bipolar disorder,
after she and Scott got into a violent altercation and damaged a hotel room in
Burbank, California. She set fire to his wardrobe the following day.
The couple have been estranged at least twice before, with Mary starting divorce
proceedings at one point several years ago.
Although Scott Weiland's previously reported memoir has yet to materialize, he
told The Pulse of Radio that the recent disintegration of his marriage was the
subject of most of his latest solo album, "Happy In Galoshes". "Every time I'd
be out of the house and I'd be living in a hotel or renting a house or at a
friend's house, that's when I would just basically be living in the studio, and
writing a song a day," he said. "Sometimes two. There were some periods of time
when the pain created most of the prolific stuff that I've ever done, I think."
Scott Weiland will hit the road for a short run of dates with STONE TEMPLE
PILOTS this summer, with the band also preparing to make its first studio album
in eight years. Weiland also continues to tour behind "Happy In Galoshes".

CHICKENFOOT will perform on the June 5 edition of NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show",
helping to kick off the program's first week with new host Conan O'Brien. The
appearance comes just days before the June 9 release of CHICKENFOOT's
self-titled debut album.
Although many "supergroups" tend to make one or two albums before its members go
their separate ways or back to other projects, Satriani told The Pulse of Radio
that he thinks CHICKENFOOT will be around for a while. "Well, I hope so, and I
have a very good feeling that everybody is feeling the same way, that it's a
once-in-a-lifetime connection that you get, and that nobody wants to see it
evaporate," he said. "The good thing about being where we are in our careers is
that we can pretty much decide what we want to do, and when to do it. But on the
same token, nobody wants to disrupt anybody else's trajectory with their other
bands or their solo careers."
The first single from CHICKENFOOT's album is called "Oh Yeah".
The vinyl version of the record will feature a bonus cut called "Bitten By The
Wolf".
DEATHRIDERS frontman Neil Turbin (ex-ANTHRAX) is featured in a new interview
with Rockpages.gr. An excerpt discussing Turbin's Anthrax past is available
below.
Rockpages.gr: The name of the band is an obvious reference to your past and the
album that you recorded with Anthrax (Fistful Of Metal). Is it really a blessing
or a curse to have your name linked with such an established act?
Neil Turbin: "The fact of the matter is that I’m linked with the fucking name
whether I like it or not. I have every right to use the name…after all, I
wrote the song. You know, once you get involved in something successful, then
people automatically link you to that period of your life. It’s like the case
of an actor who finds himself tied up in a role and people almost refuse to see
him playing any other role. They put you in a category! Deathriders is an
original metal band and if people or even Anthrax don’t like the name or the
attitude of the group…well, fuck’em!"
Rockpages.gr: You were a member of Anthrax for almost two years. What was the
reason behind your departure?
Neil Turbin: "I was a member of Anthrax from August 1982 up until August 1984. I
was a member of Anthrax for exactly two years. The reason I left…well, there
were a number of things, actually. The whole relationship started to deteriorate
after a while, there was definitely backstabbing from certain people who chose
to hang around with other people instead of focusing in the band. I was into
metal, focused on music while Scott Ian and Charlie Benante formed an alliance
and Dan Spitz just followed. In a matter of months it was simply a case of them
versus me. It was very difficult to deal with them, because it was obvious that
we wouldn’t get along and they were also more interested in other things than
music, at least back then. We didn’t establish a trusted friendship within the
band, that’s for sure!"
Rockpages.gr: I guess that you haven’t kept in touch with them, right?
Neil Turbin: "There is no reason to see your ex-girlfriend!"
Mexico's Mortal Fest began in 1998 as an initiative to support and promote
Mexico's metal scene. The first event surpassed the expectations of everybody
and the following year the producers decided to expand the concept to an
international event, combining metal music and art in one of the most important
metal expos of Latin America. Each year the producers of Mortal Fest dedicate
the event to an artist for his/her outstanding contribution to metal music
through the years. METAL CHURCH singer RONNY MUNROE, whose debut solo album was
recently released, was this year's recipient of the award. Unfortunately, due to
the Swine Flu virus that had plagued not only Mexico, but countries around the
world, Ronny was forced to cancel his appearance at the 11th edition of Mortal
Fest 2009, which was initially set to take place May 3 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
However, Mortal Fest was rescheduled for May 31st and Ronny was ecstatic to be
able to attend. This Recognition
Award was presented to Ronny Munroe for his contribution to metal music,
charity benefits and overall contribution to the metal community.
Says Munroe: "I would like to thank Humberto of the Mortal Fest 09, Juan and
Mario for taking such good care of me, the band Soul Possessed that took the
time to nail the 3 Metal Church songs we performed, which were 'Ton Of Bricks',
'Mirror Of Lies', and 'Metal Church'. They did a great job and I was very
honored to accept this recognition award for myself and all of Metal Church. I
had a great time, the fans were insane and I can't wait to go back! Thank you so
much to all of you."
California thrashers SLAYER have added two U.S. headline shows to their
schedule:
Jun. 22 - Spokane, WA - Knitting Factory
Jul. 27 - Columbus, OH - The LC Pavillion
As BLABBERMOUTH.NET exclusively reported yesterday, SLAYER has set "World
Painted Blood" as the title of its new album, tentatively due late summer via
American Recordings/Columbia Records. The forthcoming CD is being produced by
Greg Fidelman and will include the album's title track and "Psychopathy Red"
(both of which are Jeff Hanneman-penned tunes), the latter of which was made
available as a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl disc on April 18, 2009 as part
of the third annual Record Store Day.
Prior to the new album release, SLAYER will join forces with MEGADETH to perform
together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four
shows in Canada in late June (June 24-29). The tour, dubbed "Canadian Carnage",
will also feature MACHINE HEAD and SUICIDE SILENCE, and will see MEGADETH and
SLAYER each closing two of the four shows. SLAYER will also co-headline with
MARILYN MANSON on the five-week Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, set to kick off
July 10 in Sacramento, California.
SLAYER management has confirmed that the band's new album will be officially
titled World Painted Blood. The follow-up to 2006's Christ Illusion is
tentatively due late summer via American Recordings/Columbia Records. The
forthcoming CD is being produced by Greg Fidelman in a Los Angeles, California
studio and will include the album's title track and 'Psychopathy Red' (a Jeff
Hanneman-penned tune streaming below).
'Psychopathy Red' (pictured below) was made available as a 7-inch vinyl disc on
April 18th, as part of the third annual Record Store Day. Only 5,000 of these
limited edition discs were manufactured worldwide. The blood-red vinyl
'Psychopathy Red' 7-inch collectors item was packaged in a special Russian crime
scene "evidence envelope," as the song was inspired by the heinous Russian
serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, aka the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally
murdering 56 children. The song was recorded by the band - guitarists Hanneman
and Kerry King, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo - last
October.
Canadian metallers 3 INCHES OF BLOOD have named their forthcoming album Here
Waits Thy Doom. The album is set for release on September 8th via the band's new
deal with Century Media Records.
The label recently reported:
"One of the biggest defenders of traditional heavy metal, Canada’s 3 Inches Of
Blood, has crafted a new dynamic, epic opus of grandeur that is soon to be
hailed as the gospel of all things heavy. Century Media Records is proud to
welcome these metal warriors to its worldwide family roster and fans can expect
their massively anticipated new full-length release this fall.
Cam Pipes (vocals) further comments: “Ever since our departure from our
previous label, Century Media has been in the forefront trying to get us to sign
with them. No other label showed as much enthusiasm and belief in our band as
they did. Right from the start we all got a great feeling from the whole Century
Media team. We feel comfortable with the vision they have for us and are
confident they have the necessary tools and motivation to help us in the ways
our previous label didn't. We can’t wait to unleash this new material upon the
masses.”
3 Inches Of Blood entered Seattle’s London Bridge Studios to commence the
recording process in mid April with renowned producer Jack Endino (HIGH ON
FIRE). The group took a break from the studio for a slew of high profile US
shows with genre leaders SLIPKNOT, Pipes further states:
“The shows with Slipknot were absolutely amazing. Any band would be fortunate
to get to play in front of their crowd and because we are such a different band
than Slipknot. This was an excellent opportunity for us to put ourselves in
front of people who have never heard us before and make some new fans.
Obviously, Joey Jordison (Slipknot drummer), our friend and past producer, had a
part in getting us on these shows and we are massively grateful to him and
everyone else that made it happen."
Born out of a love for pure metal, weaned on a diet of fantasy and mythology, 3
Inches Of Blood have been slaying the infidel for nearly a decade. In that time,
they've released three albums and splattered the ground with crimson streaks
while on tour with such acclaimed acts as SATYRICON, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER,
MOTÖRHEAD and CRADLE OF FILTH, just to name a few.
In 2009, 3 Inches Of Blood raises the chalice another notch leaving their
definitive mark on the metal genre.
Century Media Records has issued the following update on Seattle,
Washington-based metallers NEVERMORE:
One always says that you can’t rush greatness or perfection, and this
couldn’t be more true in the case of metal titans Nevermore, who last released
This Godless Endeavor in 2005. The Seattle quartet will triumphantly return with
what could be their most impressive offering of their illustrious decade plus,
heralded career.
The Obsidian Conspiracy will commence recording in August with producer Peter
Wichers (who previously worked with Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane on his solo
debut Praises To The War Machine). Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap
(MEGADETH, OPETH) will once again be handling mixing duties.
The album is currently set for an early 2010 release. Fans can also follow Dane
on Twitter at twitter.com/warrel_dane for updates as to the progress of the new
album.
Dane further comments: “These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and
musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no
doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and
Andy will result in something very, very special.
This quintessential metal band was formed out of the ashes of Seattle,
Washington, based thrash act SANCTUARY in 1991 by Dane and Jim Sheppard (bass),
with the addition of Jeff Loomis (guitar, who had played in the final line-up of
Sanctuary) and Mark Arrington on drums. A few years later, Van Williams joined
the band (drums).
The band has since released six full-length albums, toured the world a number of
times and captivated the hearts of metalheads touring with such diverse and
major acts ranging from Megadeth, IN FLAMES, DISTURBED, ARCH ENEMY, DIMMU BORGIR
and CHILDREN OF BODOM, among countless others.
According to FIREWIND, the band has been confirmed for the Ilha Do Ermal 2009
Festival scheduled for August 28th - 30th in Vieira do Minho, Portugal. The band
is due to play on the 29th.
Firewind's tour schedule is now as follows:
June
26 - Dessel, Belgium - Graspop Metal Meeting
27 - Helsinki, Finland - Tuska Festival
July
11 - Chania, Greece - Perivolia Stadium (supporting Scorpions)
19 - Istanbul, TR - UniRock Festival
August
14 - Dinkelsbühl, Germany - Summer Breeze Festival
29 - Vieira do Minho, PT - Festival Ilha do Ermal
According to frontman Stephen Pearcy, "After months of writing, and
pre-production, RATT will hit the studio mid-June to start recording their first
studio release in 10 years!
Celebrating 25 years since the release of their mega platinum debut, Out of the
Cellar, in 1984.
We'll keep you posted on the progress of the recording and will have live studio
reports."
Celebrated rock pioneers RATT and EXTREME have teamed up to bring you this
summer’s most rockin’ tour lineup.
The tour, which will feature sets from both bands with Ratt closing, kicks off
on July 12th in Amarillo, TX and runs through August 7th in Hampton Beach, NH.
It will cross the US and cover 16 markets, with more to be announced soon.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their landmark debut Out Of The
Cellar, Ratt will be playing the album in its entirety.
Both bands are excited about the double bill. “Warren DeMartini and Nuno
Bettencourt on same stage, same night?? ‘Nuff said, we'll see you there!”
says Ratt's Bobby Blotzer.
Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt concurs, “One hot summer night. Two bands fully
loaded with musicianship. Mix in one part memorable songwriting. Add nine ounces
of passionate performers. Throw in three well respected guitarists. Add a touch
of West Coast raunch and a hint of East Coast funk. And you get yourself a
recipe for one night of unforgettable rock and roll.”
Ratt is currently in the studio recording its first new record in over 10 years
with famed producer Elvis Baskette (credits). The band announced its new
partnership with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records earlier this year. The album is
planned for release this fall.
Extreme recently released their first new album in thirteen years Saudades de
Rock (pronounced “sow-dodge”) which is a groundbreaking record that
reaffirms the beloved, Boston-bred foursome’s stature as innovators in the
world of rock & roll.
Over the past two years, Ratt has toured the world in support of their releases
Tell The World - The Very Best Of Ratt and their first ever DVD, Videos from the
Cellar- The Atlantic Years. During this time, the current lineup of Stephen
Pearcy, Warren DeMartini, Bobby Blotzer, Robbie Crane and Carlos Cavazo played
shows in Australia, Colombia and Peru for the first time in their careers. Their
mega-hit 'Round and Round' was prominently featured in the Oscar nominated 2008
film The Wrestler, and the band will be headlining Rocklahoma this July.
One of the most popular rock acts of the past 20 years, Ratt's brand of
guitar-driven melodic rock helped shape the LA metal scene. The band boasts a
deep catalog of hits including smashes like 'Round and Round', 'Lay It Down',
'You’re In Love', 'Lack of Communication' and 'Wanted Man', which are beloved
by fans the world over. The band has gone on to sell millions of albums
worldwide. With 1984’s mega-platinum debut Out Of The Cellar celebrating its
25th anniversary this year, the band is looking forward to starting a new
chapter with new music to complement the impressive legacy they have established
over two-plus decades.
To date, the Grammy-nominated Extreme have released five albums, plus a greatest
hits set - selling over 10 million records worldwide. They also achieved a #1
hit single, 'More Than Words' - from their 1990 multi-platinum album Extreme II:
Pornograffitti - on the Billboard Hot 100, which they followed with the Top Five
'Hole Hearted'. Although these two acoustic hits brought the band great
mainstream success, the band’s trademark sound has always been more a mix of
hard rock funk - fueled by guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt’s signature style,
Gary Cherone’s resonant vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Pat Badger’s
rock solid bass, and the hard hitting Kevin Figueiredo on drums. Extreme has
recently been introduced to an entire new generation of fans with the inclusion
of their song 'Play With Me' in the popular video game Guitar Hero as well as
'More Than Words' featured in hit movies Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Love
Guru.

This double disc set contains the band's greatest hits on the first CD, while
the second CD will feature b-sides and rarities.
FAITH NO MORE rehearsed on March 4, 2009 for the first time in over 10 years,
according to a Twitter update by the group's bassist, Billy Gould.
So far, no North American appearances are on the radar, but according to Gould,
"U.S. shows are not out of the question."
As speculated, original guitarist Jim Martin will not be part of the reunion.
Performing in his place will be Jon Hudson, who played with FAITH NO MORE during
the latter stages of its initial run after Martin departed.
The rest of the band's best-known lineup — singer Mike Patton, Gould, drummer
Mike "Puffy" Bordin and keyboardist Roddy Bottum — will be intact.
Guitarist Mike Greenfield (DETERIOROT, HEMLOCK) has announced his departure from
SOCIETY 1 — less than three months after he officially joined the group. He
says in a statement, "I would like to wish Matt Zane and SOCIETY 1 much success
in their future endeavors. Due to professional differences, it was my decision
to resign from the groups ranks."
Mike is seeking any acts that are in need of a touring guitarist or possibly a
permanent bassist.
All parties interested can email him directly at
Bcrichdragonlord@... or
contact him via MySpace.
Seven years after parting ways with PROTOTYPE in 2002, Pat Magrath (ex-KILLING
KULTURE, ex-STEEL PROPHET) returns to the drum throne for the Los Angeles-based
progressive thrash band. Guitarist Kragen Lum commented, "We are stoked to have
Pat playing with us again! His performance on our 'Trinity' album was repeatedly
praised by both fans and reviewers, and it's been great working with him again.
We'd also like to thank Nic Ritter for his drum work on our 2008 pre-production
demo. His tour schedule is packed with WARBRINGER through the end of the year
and we wish him all the best with the new album and tours."
Currently in pre-production, PROTOTYPE is working on its third full-length
effort. Demo samples of four songs can be heard on the band's MySpace page.
PROTOTYPE is:
Vince Levalois - Vocals/Guitar
Kragen Lum - Guitar
Kirk Scherer - Bass
Pat Magrath - Drums

Santa Barbara, California's DEVILDRIVER will headline the second annual Thrash
And Burn Tour, which is set to run from July 24 through August 30, 2009. Support
on the trek will come from EMMURE, DESPISED ICON, MY CHILDREN MY BRIDE, VEIL OF
MAYA, FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS, OCEANO, PERIPHERY and THY WILL BE DONE. Several
stops on the tour will see the addition of a special guest band, for a total of
10 national acts each night.
The Thrash And Burn Tour will showcase a diverse mix of underground metal bands
who draw from decades of thrash, punk, and hardcore to mold their 21st century
sounds.
Thrash And Burn Tour organizer Mike Mowery comments: "Once again, we aim to
provide an inexpensive day of metal, thrash, and hardcore. We've chosen bands
that complement each other very well, and we've diversified the lineup so
there's something for headbangers, shredders, moshers, and scenesters. Last year
proved that a club tour of relevant, underground metal acts is something the
fans want. Almost all of the bands on the tour have new releases coming out this
summer, and that will provide their fans an opportunity to see their new songs
performed live for the first time."
DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara had this to say: "The time could not be better
for DEVILDRIVER and Thrash And Burn to come together to support the UNDERGROUND!
We are elated to bring our first full headlining tour of major markets and
combine it with Thrash And Burn's pick of new, up-and-coming, heavy bands.
Affordable tickets, combined a full package of amazing bands with a wide range
of different styles and sounds, will make for an insanely killer time for those
who come out to the shows. Raise your glasses; this will be a tour to remember!
Hail."

SUICIDE CITY, the band featuring BIOHAZARD guitarist/vocalist Billy Graziadei
and former KITTIE bassist Jennifer Arroyo, has inked a deal with The End
Records. The group's full-length debut, entitled "Frenzy", is scheduled for
release on August 4.
SUICIDE CITY formed in 2004 when five talented and experienced artists, sharing
the same passion in music, crossed paths. For the past several years, Billy
Graziadei of BIOHAZARD has been producing bands from many different parts of the
world. While producing tracks for THE GROOVENICS, their singer, Karl Bernholtz,
and Graziadei realized they had many common musical interests. Bernholtz and
Graziadei quickly began writing material and soon hooked up with New York-based
drummer Dan Lamagna and GROOVENICS/GHOST FIGHT guitarist AJ Marchetta. KITTIE
bassist Jennifer Arroyo joined up with the band shortly after, solidifying the
SUICIDE CITY lineup.
Not the type of band to just wait around for things to happen, SUICIDE CITY
self-released an EP, "Not My Year", in 2005 and has since managed to sell over
7,000 copies sans label support. That year they also saw success in the form of
a "Best Unsigned Band" award from East Coast Romper. They have also
self-produced and released a live DVD, entitled "Live From CBGB".
Although the individual band members come from wildly different backgrounds,
they all share a common passion for music and an unfaltering loyalty to SUICIDE
CITY.
As Arroyo says, "SUICIDE CITY inspires to me to reach new levels of sound and
emotion."
Graziadei describes SUICIDE CITY's sound as "punk rock, dirty rock ‘n roll
with some big balls of metal and a touch of manic depression thrown in."
Lamagna's precise percussion fury adds to the speed and aggression of the band's
sound, but is reigned in when a more melodic sound is required. The layers of
Marchetta's and Graziadei's guitars succeed in laying down an aggressive
onslaught as well as some impressive and unexpected melody while Arroyo's bass
holds down the low end of the party. Bernholtz vocalizes emotional poetry
masterfully, and more than matches the music's energy.
"'Frenzy' is such an eclectic blend of music," says Marchetta. "This band is
unafraid and unapologetic about what we create, and because of that we have an
album with a really wide musical landscape."
Graziadei points out, "In our short time together, SUICIDE CITY has achieved
more on our own than most bands do in their whole career with the help of a
label."
Perhaps Bernholtz sums it up best: "SUICIDE CITY thrives on making people happy
and smile through our music without having to candy coat anything. Life does not
‘suck and then you die.' Life is great, dangerous, exciting, strange, and then
you die. I guess that's what we're trying to portray with our music."

Italian avant-garde metallers EPHEL DUATH have parted ways with Earache Records
— less than six months after the release of their latest album, "Through My
Dog's Eyes". The news was announced by the band's mainman Davide Tiso
(songwriter, guitar, keyboard, vocals), who added in an online posting that he
was "thrilled" to be off the label.
"Through My Dog's Eyes" is based on a concept conjured up by Davide Tiso in
which the entire album is written from the perspective of a dog.
Released by Earache Records on January 26, "Through My Dog's Eyes" includes a
limited-edition bonus DVD. The DVD contains an exclusive art-documentary,
featuring an in-depth look at the concepts behind the new album, along with the
history and evolution of the band, all told by mainman Davide Tiso.
German metallers DOMAIN will perform in front of hundreds of inmates at the JVA
Wiesbaden prison on July 10. The band states, "We're pretty sure that this will
be a tough show with the toughest audiance we ever met and we're looking forward
to make things hum."
DOMAIN's ninth album, a concept effort entitled "The Chronicles of Love, Hate
and Sorrow", was released on March 13. The CD artwork was created by famous
Brazilian metal artist Gustavo Sazes, who "bridged between the traditional
DOMAIN artwork concept and the requirements of the album story," according to a
press release.
Completed at Meadow Studios in Darmstadt, Germany with producer and guitarist
Axel Ritt at the helm, "The Chronicles of Love, Hate and Sorrow" is a metal
opera based on the novel "Die Leiden des jungen Werther" by the famous German
poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Released for the first time in 1774, the story "Die Leiden des jungen Werther"
became a key work in German literature regarding the "Storm And Stress" period
and describes an impossible love against all moral concepts, which provokes
extreme emotional reactions up to the point of a spate of suicides among young
readers of the novel.
"The Chronicles of Love, Hate and Sorrow" contains 10 tracks, with a bonus track
included with the limited-edition version of the album.
Norway's black metal masters URGEHAL (featuring ex-KVIST members and current
members of VULTURE LORD, CREST OF DARKNESS, ASMEGIN, FORGOTTEN REALMS, and
BLOODSWORN) will join forces with U.K.'s black/thrash/death metalheads SPEARHEAD
and the Los Angeles-based black metal band EYES OF NOCTUM (which is fronted by
Weston "Arcane" Coppola Cage, son of actor Nicolas Cage) for a U.S. tour in
late/summer early fall. The month-long trek is expected to kick off around
September 10 in Boston.
URGEHAL celebrated its 15 year-anniversary in 2007 by releasing the album "The
Eternal Eclipse - 15 years of Satanic Black Metal". The band recently completed
work on a new LP, entitled "Ikonoklast", to be released later in the year. The
effort features a guest appearance by Mannevond (KOLDBRANN).
Israeli melodic death metal band THE FADING will release its full-length debut,
"In Sin We'll Find Salvation", on August 3 through the German label Wacken
Records. On July 31, the CD will be launched with the group's second appearance
at the Wacken Open Air festival.
"In Sin We'll Find Salvation" was recorded at Studio Underground in Sweden, with
veteran producer Pelle Saether (EBONY TEARS, NECRODEATH, CARNAL FORGE). Mixing
and mastering was handled by SCAR SYMMETRY guitarist Jonas Kjellgren at the
Abyss Studios. The artwork for the album, which can be viewed below, was created
by British artist Colin Marks (NEVERMORE, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ABORTED).
THE FADING signed to Wacken Records after winning the Wacken Metal Battle last
summer.
"In Sin We'll Find Salvation" track listing:
01. Failure Proven
02. My Lost Serenity
03. The Sin Collector
04. One Step to Drama
05. Beyond Perfection
06. Angel Within
07. Confront Myself
08. When Dream Meets Reality
09. Destination, Life
10. Age of Phobia
Jonas Kjellgren contributes a guest guitar solo on "Confront Myself", and
ACROPOLIS keyboardist Alex Karlinsky performs the piano interlude in "Beyond
